What does /k/ think of the Opinel No. 8?
>>
Best value for your money.
I have a couple of them lying around and use them for all kinds of minor cutting needs and smaller woodworkings. Would not use them for "innawoods" scenarios though. I don't think it takes horizontal forces too well (didn't try it out, but it's pretty obvious).

Pretty good. I take mine just about everywhere and beat it up. Had it for a few years now. Good camping/outdoors knife. Never personally tried, but I hear the wooden handle makes them float.

Good, I carry mine with me every day and I love how easy it is to get them sharpened.

i got a #8 on a recommendation from anon. its slightly bigger than i would prefer, i think i would prefer maybe one size smaller. but other than that, its an ok general purpose folder. for $12, its a good buy.
>OJ patina
>>
>>31929679
It has the same field of use as a cheap Mora
>>
>>31929679
It's good for cutting food.
>>
>>31929679
Prefer the No.6, a just slightly shorter blade but it's width is less so it has a thicker profile.

>>31930464
Check the 6 if you like the 8, I had the same issues you did, I think they make them from the same stock material.
>>
I love my No. 12
honestly for the price there are few knives that can beat Opinel. Great company, hilarious descriptions.
No. 8 "With its curved blade beveled on both sides the Opinel No8 pruning knife is the ideal tool for grape-picking, shrub pruning or cutting ties."
>>
It's great for a picnic.

They're okay. I got a stainless and a high carbon one. Carried the high carbon one around for about a year. They start to look like dirty hobo knives after they get beat up and started freaking out people at my work.

If they get wet they can get hard to open or close because the wood swells. But it goes back to normal after it drys out.

I've moved to a svord peasant knife. Same price bracket pretty much can handle anything. It's like a knife a north sea fisherman would use.

I prefer the Japanese Boku no Pico as it's extremely easy to open with one hand. You can find them on Amazon for ~$20.

Why not just carry a multitool with a knife in it?

because some people like carrying a knife that's not the same size of your dick
>>
>>31933948
I routinely find uses for a knife throughout the day.
Rarely do I find myself needing a god damn file or some pliers. Not enough to warrant carrying around the bulk of a multi tool.
>>
>>31933988
all jokes aside these knives you people are posting are fairly small but w/e sorry about your dick inadequacy problems i guess

>>31934045
>multitool
>bulky
my multitool is smaller than most of the knives pictured itt
>>
>>31934073
>multi-tool
>not bulky
Clearly more bulky than your crackpipe.

I'm the poster here: >>31933875, I carry a Swiss Army knife on some occasions (range trips or on a long road trip when I won't have any other tools available and might need something) but stopped carrying it in pretty much all other situations as I found myself taking the time to get better tools for the job almost every time when I could use it and found a knife that could be opened and closed with one hand to be the better choice for what to carry in pretty much every situation.
>>
>>31933875

But the best kind of asshole>>31933948

>>31933844
It really is. At a local craft distillery they use them for meat and cheese. Great for that.

got mine from my french boss when I was his chef, I've taken it all around the country with me and used the hell out of it but its still sharp as fuck
>>
>>31934821
No, but the blade is actually made out of multiple types of steel.

The perfect knife for the man who wears suspenders, tips his hat and waxes his mustache. The kind of man who wants to carry a knife but doesn't want to lose his neon-haired wife and her son because weapons would trigger them.

This isn't the god damn gilded age. Quit being a hipster faggot and get a modern tactical folder.

Personally I think they're overrated.

They're probably worth just about what you pay for them. They're sturdy knives, I'd trust them around the campsite for minor tasks here and there. However they're not as well made or reliable as the knife community might have you believe.

I had one for a year or so. Used it camping and around the garage and stuff. I lost it because I didn't care about it, it was like $12.

And maybe that's the beauty in them. They're solid little tools that are completely dispensable , buy one and use it hard. If it breaks, buy a new one.

Alternatively just buy a well made modern folder, they're superior in almost every way.

I'm sorry but i'd prefer a knife that has been around since the 1890s Unlike guns knife technology won't advance much more then it has in human history. I will take good steel and wood over that tacticool shit you operators use in airsoft. This knife has seen action in the hands of soldiers who brought it with them from their farms to fight the Great War and what little of WW2 the French fought in. This is as close to a man's knife that someone could cheeply get. I prefer a knife that is simple and basic. take your tacticool bullshit and fuck off. "tactical" my ass. a knife is a knife. If it works and is durable it is a good knife. I ain't defending hipsters but I ain't going to put up with operator faggots either.

>>31935633
that's just what it is, a fucking 10€ knife that does its job well, don't see how that's overrated
>>
I've had the same number 7 for 3 years now.

Sure the blade dulls easily, but a couple of rubs on a stone or one of those knife sharpeners (I wouldnt use it on any other knife, but it really works well on the opinel) and its razor sharp again, love them

Kinda pointless when you have Leatherman Multitools floating around. The soft wood handle is nice for personalization, though.

If you want a folding knife, get a Multitool.

Its a classy everyday/fruit cutting knife. Works nicely for boiled potatoes as well. But it is way too light duty for any serious work.
>>
>>31937127
I carry my Mercator daily. Love it.

great basic knife with excellent carbon steel. but there are better options.
