Specifically in the mid to compact range. What's an affordable option that I'm not gonna be worried about failing me at the wrong moment? I've been searching Google all day with little result.

Also, dump some 1911 porn.

I've heard that mid/compact 1911s aren't reliable because the lack of slide mass. If this is true or not, I do not know.

Anyway, here's my 1911.
>>
>>31928954
10/10, would fingerbang.

Sadly, I'm a pretty small dude. I have issues hiding anything when carrying, plus I absolutely love the 1911. That's the only reason I gravitated toward that. I had looked at the Sig P938, but the range rental I tried made me nervous about it . Lots of the magazine just dropping for no reason.
>>
>>31929017
I have a 938, the latest models seem to be flawless. I highly recommend it. Plus a range model is getting used and abused by everyone
>>
i bought a sig p238 for my wife and its fucking awesome if you are looking for a small single stack pistol, with a single action only trigger. reliable, accurate and small as fuck.
>>
>>31929071
That's good to hear. I've wanted this gun for a while now. I was pretty upset when I came across that bad rental. They tried to blame it on how I was shooting, but I made sure I was nowhere near the mag release. They also didn't have a 2nd mag to try to troubleshoot with. I was not happy when I left that day.

TISAS.

Seriously. Check them out. ~$400 out the door, better than RIA.

>I've heard that mid/compact 1911s aren't reliable because the lack of slide mass.

I've had 3 commander sized 1911's. Who told you the above?
>>
>>31929107
Mine works great with all 3 of my mags. You have to slap em in but that's typical afaik. If I were you, or me, I'd do what I did. Get a p938 to carry and then build your own 1911. I'm diamonds for plain slide, no serrations
>>
>>31929141
He may be referring to the plethora of Kimber complaints that he hears on here. That's just a guess, though.
>>
>>31929155
That sounds like a really good idea. I tend to enjoy serrations, desu. I've been eyeballing the Springfield Operator Champion all day, but it's about $150-200 more than I'd like to spend.
>>
>>31929141
Just something I heard somewhere. As I said, no idea if it's true.
>>
>>31928892

Para GI expert is great if you can find one
>>

>I've heard that mid/compact 1911s aren't reliable because the lack of slide mass. If this is true or not, I do not know.
its true.
the lack of slide mass means the gun requires really strong recoil springs to function.
these springs wear out insanely fast.
for a govt 1911 replacing the 16 lb recoil spring at 5k is recommended many springs will go well past that befor it starts malfunctioning.
with a officer the recoil spring is 20-24lbs and its recommended to replace them every 500 rounds if you want your gun to continue working.
it wont make it past 1k .
while the recoil spring is good that officers 1911 will be perfectly reliable until it isnt. its a matter of longevity.

commanders dont suffer as much as officers do and for the most part are fine
>>
>>31929204
Now that you've explained it, I remember hearing something about this as well.
>>
>>31929247
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2P0edDYdqXU
to make things clear the reason a govt can exceed 5k is it starts at 16 and can go as low a 12 and still have the gun cycle. optimally you want it at 16 to keep it stock so you replace at 5k but you wont run into issues until the spring is really fucked. lot of leeway with the govt
with an officer you start at 22 the second it drops under 20 it wont cycle anymore.

not every officer is guilty of this there are some exceptions with redesigned recoil springs but the flawed system based of colt is the norm
>>
>>31928954
Sub-compact 1911s are a somewhat delicate balancing act. The lack of slide mass results in a faster cyclic rate. Unfortunately the 1911 doesn't much like this as A) the controlled feeding system is based on each step taking a certain length of time and B) too little slide mass can result in the slide unlocking early in the firing cycle. Most FTEs in compact 1911s are due to the slide opening prematurely while the casing is still swollen inside the chamber creating a temporary stuck case situation. If you go to clear the malf like the guy in the video here >>31929326 and snap the extractor over the case rim, then you're only going to make the problem worse because you're detuning and damaging the extractor, making it more likely it will let go of cases in the future.

This problem is usually combatted by adding heavy weight recoil springs to slow down the slide's rearward motion. However, what you SHOULD do is use lighter weight ammunition. 185-200gr standard pressure rounds. These will slow the cyclic rate adequately while still having enough of an impulse to cycle the heavier (but not too heavily) sprung slide. It will also vastly extend your spring's service life.

Oddly enough, this quirk of the design makes 9mm variants of the Officers Model less susceptible to these problems making them, effectively, more reliable and allowing a wider range of ammunition types to be used.

I've read good things about the Colt Defender. I'm not sure if anything cheaper than that will be good, but I've never read anything about RIA's compact offerings.
>>
>>31928892
I have the RIA CS, took some work to get it running properly but it's now a reliable workhorse. The fit and finish are adequate but nothing special, so it's not something you will sit around fondling. Get a Colt if that's important to you.

Don't get the base model though, the sights suck. I like GI sights on my carry 1911s but on the RIA they are almost unusable.

Great gun. Around 500+ rounds from it and never a malfunction yet.

Only strange thing is when you load it leave 3 riunds out of mag then chamber a round then drop mag and fill the mag. I only do this for when im going to be carrying it as when you unload later if you dont follow this a round will drop.

So, I own 9 1911s. I say this only to let you know that I have the gauntlet from 70s Essex Arms to AMT Hardballers to an STI. That being said...

Regent R200S. Seriously! Hear me out.

I picked this thing up for $200 from a friend. he got it in trade and didn't want it. So, this thing is a Turkish pile of dog shit, right? I thought so too. But honestly, it has a trigger as good as my Springfield RO. I mean, it's not STI killer but holy shit, for the money... I was blown away.

New to 1911s, I'm intrigued. Care to give me your opinion on it?

I really like my cz 1911a1

Literally no bells or whistles but its pretty accurate, very well balanced, never had any issues even with cheap ammo.

Short barrels perform better with heavier bullets. More powder is burned because of the weight resistance.

>tfw monkey fingers too long for 938
>wold have to carry safety off
>always pull shots right

Welp, Commander it is unless I decide to shell out for a EMP.
>>
>>31931416
Friend has one that if at +1, will spit the first round in the mag out when the mag is dropped. Idk if the spring is just that goddamn stiff or if they've been cramming too many in there
>>
>>31933405
Yeah that's why 45auto is dogshit out of compacts right? Don't get me wrong, there is a grain of truth in that larger diameter bullets get pushed a little better, but vastly over simplifying ballistics helps nobody

Anyone else here have an American Classic? I love mine.

Get a spring field range officer compact.
Look it up. Also sold in a 9mm alloy lower frame so its a lot lighter
