how much longer do we have to wait for russia to build a 5th gen fighter like china and the us?
Why can't
>>31928664
F-22 was already produced.
J-20 is in LRIP
F-35 is in LRIP
PAK-FA last ETA for LRIP was 2020
it's a serious question.
>>31928695
>F-22
Overpriced
>J-20
No engines
>F-35
Overpriced AND funded by bunch of countries. Also, one engined planes are useless.
>PAK-FA
No engines
In general - F-22 is a unique machine which was build in glory time of endless funds. Stopping it's production was a biggest mistake of US military industry since MBT-70 program. In nearest future there will be no planes like F-22. And there will be no more F-22. Welcome to fucking Warhammer 40K with lost tech e.t.c.
>>31929150
all of them are in service or in production
the pak-fa is not
so how much longer until the pak-fa gets put into production??
>>31928645
They'll be lucky to get a full operational squadron going.
http://www.janes.com/article/64911/russian-defence-budget-set-to-drop-by-12
>Russian defence expenditure is set to fall by RUB371 billion (USD6 billion) by 2018 under new spending plans announced by the government. Total spending will fall from RUB3.1 trillion in 2016 to RUB2.728 trillion in 2018, a reduction of 12.0% in nominal terms.
>The new spending plans were outlined in "The basic directions of budgetary policy for 2017 and the planning period of 2018 and 2019", published by the Russian Ministry of Finance (MoF) in October 2016. Based on current projections the expenditure on 'National Defence' will fall by 8.5% in 2017 to RUB2.836 trillion, and a further 3.8% to RUB2.728 trillion in 2017.

2018 or further.
>>31929150
>One engine jets are pointless
I genuinely feel bad for Russia.
They used to be at the forefront of technology and now a days they can't even design a curved tube for their latest """fighter"""
Never
>>31929749
It honestly depends on which technology, as well as when during the Cold War. Despite that, their mechanical engineering is and was pretty good, but we always held the edge in science and electronics. This is in general however, and there were definitely exceptions.
>>31929206
Although I hate the current USGOV and the EU with a passion, I am glad they still understand the need for containing Russia. They have succumbed to economic warfare already quite recently and now they are taken in the bunghole again.
Now if only they could put
their own countries first as well.

>Welcome to fucking Warhammer 40K with lost tech e.t.c.
like america is the only country to lose capability and take massive steps backward because of poor planning
back in the 80s the UK could patrol the shit out of GIUK gap with Nimrods together with loads of frigates and if the Red Banner Northern Fleet sortied their surface assets into the northeast atlantic they could be attacked with multiple squadrons of Buccaneer naval strike aircraft armed with Sea Eagle AShMs, tactical nuclear weapons and multiple flavours of electronic warfare pod
how many air launched AShM does Britain have now? 0
how many ASW patrol aircraft? 0
how many frigates? 13
how is that for loss of tech/capability
>>31929749
This.
It's just sad at this point

>>F-22
>Overpriced
Turns out the American military can afford to spend money like the Russian military spends Russian lives.
War is always overpriced, but America by far has the better currency for it. And that's why America actually has 5th gen planes, whatever the price.
>>31928645
When America takes back Crimea
>>31928645
When russians realize Deng's way is the only way. You cannot have a strong armed forces without a strong economy.
China actually got lucky in the 70s because the sino soviet split meant they could enter a detente period with the US, which began the path to market economy and entering the global trade meme.
>>31934789
you mean when a large deposit of oil is found there
>>31934856
Economies rise and fall, but Crimea will be with Russia forever.
They traded a good economy to annex traditionally Russian territory that is filled with Russian people. The alternative would be to watch on the sidelines as they are oppressed and ethnically cleansed.
They made a trade-off for sanctions that might easily be removed before 2020.
>>31935339
More importantly losing Crimea is a huge strategic loss for Russia
>>31935362
If Crimea was filled with Turks or something, Russia would have never been able to annex it.
So the key to Crimea is:
>traditionally Russian territory that is filled with Russian people
Never ever
>>31935418
>traditionally russian
lel
>>31929749
where did it all go so wrong?
It turns out failing states may not have the cash on hand to afford an expensive fighter development program.
