P.S. haven't watched the clip yet, expecting Hollywood bullshit, but yes, the fighting in the Pacific Theatre was unimaginably brutal.

About 5,000 Japanese held a 700m by 500m square on Peleliu.

The ground was so hard it was impossible to bury corpses.

At night the Japanese would crawl forwards into marine foxholes and the marines in the next pit would hear the fight but not be able to help because anyone outside of the foxhole was a target.

It's a shame that windtalkers was such a shit movie. Not a single decent film depicts the battle of the marianas/Saipan.

Anyway the US military roasted the fuck out of the natives on all these islands and most of them still celebrate liberation day because the japanese were such shitheads.

As someone who has competed in submachinegun competitions: Hip-firing is much more effective in close quarters than shouldering it. You can control the recoil much better, and you can just walk your bullets into anything moving. It's pretty easy dude.

Plus, once you do it enough you can aim pretty well on the first shot. It's like how in videogames if you have a grenade launcher, once you fire enough shots you have a pretty good idea of where the thing is aiming relative to the target.

I was under the impression that the imperial army forbid bonzai (my bad, I actually have a ton of jade trees so I instinctually wrote bonsai) charges after Saipan because it was a massive waste of resources.

They also redesigned their island defenses around multiple overlapping positions that would be difficult to root out once the enemy landed and gave up the idea of beach head defense.

That's what made okinawa so brutal.

That also directly contributed to the decision to use the bombs since the japanese mainland would be defended in the same way post okinawa.
