But now you have two guns; one for each hand.
>>
I have to wonder, is there any reason one wouldn't be able to make an aftermarket SCAR lower that accepted G3 mags? Obviously you'd lose the BHO, but that seems like a smallish price to pay to have $3.50 mags.

I bought an imbel FAL copy a while ago on an impulse.

It has terrible feed issues, doublefeeds a lot. I googled around a bit and I think the issue might be a monobrow feed ramp. CAIs seem to sport this bizarre modification, and I don't know whether I should sell it or try to fix it myself. Anybody have similar problems or experience with this feed ramp issue?

I got pics if anyone's interested.

$30-40 for OEM FN mags vs $2-3.50 for HK mags. Granted, if you can afford a SCAR, you can probably afford the mags, but I saw a lot of people saying the Handl Defense lower was a solid investment just for the ability to use .308 PMAGs. A similar lower that drops the bolt hold open for mags that cost 10% of what OEM mags do would probably do very well.

How bad was it for .308 last time? I remember 5.56/.223, 9mm, and .22LR drying up almost overnight after Sandy Hook, but I didn't have a .308 at the time and didn't pay any attention to its availability.

I'm sitting on about 1,100 rounds at the moment since I've been stockpiling 9mm and 5.45 more than anything, but I'm wondering if I should try and get a few more boxes of Hirtenberger on order before Tuesday.
>>
>>31922943

>>31923092
I'm hoping this will sort of be the case with some of my other calibers. I'm worried about 5.45 because there's so little domestic production, but I'm fairly certain Garand-spec .30-06 and .30 Carbine didn't really go anywhere last time, and both of those are common enough in the US that there will be more than a couple of boxes kicking around in every store. Worst case scenario, I've got about 2,800 rounds of .22LR I can plink with, which will last me for-fucking-ever since I only have a bolt gun in that caliber at the moment.

I have 40 rounds. I'm selling the 600 rounds of 9mm I have left to a co-worker on payday. I have a single .30 can of 5.56 left and only ~1k rounds of 7.62x39.

Figure I'll have even more reasons to be disgruntled should hillary win and everything go full panic. I don't give a single fuck anymore. Let it burn.

What is the optic on most of those rifles?
Glad I got a SCAR when I did, regret not getting both colors now.
>>
I'm looking for an optic for my PTR and I want something that can shoot at reasonably long ranges for the PTR, but also be used for closer stuff as well. Does anyone have a not shit optic to recommend?

I have no fucking idea what I'm doing when it comes to optics other than what the numbers mean for magnification and lens size. I do understand a good optic usually costs a pretty penny, though.

>>

>>
>>31923481
General rule of thumb is: if you spend more on the optic than you did on the rifle, you're doing it right.

Yeah, a cast pot-metal Voyager model with no carry handle, no bi-pod cut, and shitty QC.

>>31923548

Yeah, none of those things need a magnified optic. Magnification costs money, which you don't seem to realize. A $600 re-dot is not the equal of a $600 1-8x in quality.

>>
>>31924200
>What is the real limits of their accuracy?
It will vary from rifle to rifle. Generally it's 2-4MOA. You're trying to hit a torso-sized target at 5-800 yards; not aspirin tablets at 100. Take your rifle out and bench-rest it to see what accuracy it can consistently reproduce, and go from there.
>>
>>31924200
This would be way overkill for a PTR.
>>
>>31924253
>>31924266
>overkill

So how does that translate into optics? I know jack and shit about optics, so a 2-4 MOA weapon would warrant what level of maximum magnification?
>>
>>31924286

Like 4x. 3.4x, maybe. That's just me, though.
>>
>>31924286
1-6 or 3-9 or something like that would be fine for a PTR while also costing much less. if you were going to move that 3-18 around to different guns (having to rezero every time, of course) then buying the 3-18 wouldn't be a bad proposition.

>>
>>31925296
Point still stands. My rent is roughly $900/mo and a mortgage would be higher at the moment (thanks for the property taxes, Austin dems). Car payment is $250/mo. Factor in additional bills and I'm about to put away maybe $1K-$1.2K a month if I don't buy anything but bare necessities, and I make $26/hr.

Not sure how you're doing it unless you meant you were putting away $150-250 a month, which I was able to do when I made what you do.

How did he fall off the wagon, exactly?
>>
>>31931290
There are sporadic reports over the years of him being a pretty severe drinker.
They seem to mostly relate to when people go to visit him personally and drop off their stuff expecting a short turnaround, but he's totally shitfaced.
No clue of the veracity of the claims, and i'd be buying an already-polished trigger pack so it's not like i'm risking any parts with him, just wondering if it isn't worth trying to get done myself.

/brg/ - I just bit the bullet and picked up 2 PTRs. Any items I need to grab to help them be gtg as soon as they get here? I've heard port buffers are nice for mitigating damage to brass, but I don't see how that stops the fluted chamber from chewing things up.

Also, are they solid with steel case? I'm probably gonna be shooting a lot, so cheaper the better (obviously for reloads I'll need to replicate similar speeds/bullet weights or have a known zero adjustment)?

I doesn't; it stops the lip of the ejection port denting the side of the case in.

I cleaned up my G3 mags with some CLP tonight. I'm surprised at how nicely they cleaned up. Glad I was able to get 30 of 'em before the happening.

How did stocks and prices fair for G3 mags after Sandy Hook? I'm trying to focus on ammo now, but I'd like to hit 50 mags eventually.
>>
>>31934760
https://www.reddit.com/r/AR10/comments/5bobnj/question_and_pictures_of_a_new_rifle/

I posted the link earlier and since then I found one new report, looks like they shipped a rifle slightly overgassed so the brass hits the shell deflector but nothing else notable so far. My Daniel Defense rifle does the same thing so I suspect this is a reliability measure.

As far as I can tell the reason why they're so cheap right now is because no one knows anything about them and they just got started around June 2016 so they're competing on price. They have next to no staff too, their sales department is very obviously staffed by one person. Unless election causes a huge panic, it should be ok. Unless you live in California you shouldn't have to worry about a ban for at least a year.

I'll be able to pick mine up in December, hopefully I'll be able to let you guys know how it shoots then.
>>
>>31934760
If Hilary gets elected, panic buying will continue for a while after the election, ammo prices will continually rise. When she inevitably introduces Crime Bill Part 2: Electric Bogoloo, it will be panic buying cranked to 11.

So unless in your mind you're positive that Trump will win, then buy that shit NOW. I went into short term debt to get my M1A with parts before the election.
>>
>>31936710
I don't have debt but I definitely bought now to lock in the price, they were ok with me paying upfront and shipping a month from now. I'm willing to bet that come December the price of AR10s and AR15s will be through the roof.

Ar-10 or scar?
>>
>>31936896
AR-10 is going to be lighter, more upgradeable, more accurate. Magazines are more common and cheap. SCAR is going to be easier to maintain and probably better if you just want a battle rifle.
>>
>>31936896
low cost are AR-10s notoriously finicky

They range from $800-$3500, and all I can say is, you get what you pay for.
>>
>>31936908
I feel like the SCAR is accurate enough to be used in a dmr role so much that it wouldn't be worth getting the ar-10 because of accuracy
weight wise I think the scar is lighter than most ar-10s right?
magazines don't really bother me that much, but I'll take that into consideration
>>
>>31936927
8 pounds empty is about on par with comparable SR-25 pattern AR10s. Small frame AR10s are closer to 7 pounds like the SF-MATEN.

Accuracy-wise they're about 1-2 MOA which is solid. If you want more the marksman variants are going to be better but a well-built AR10 is easily sub-MOA.

>>31936923
Maybe at 800 dollars, but the M&P10 and SR762 are ok and they're around 1.4-1.5k. So is the M5E1.
>>
>>31936923
>>31936933
whats an ar-10 that is around 3000? that's what I'd prob be paying for a scar now
>>
>>31936958

https://danieldefense.com/firearms/gas-system/mid-length/daniel-defense-dd5v1.html

http://www.livefreearmory.com/product/lf308-ba-hybrid/

Personally I would go for the SF-MATEN and swap for Geissele SSA-E to get something that is handy and incredibly accurate. Mega Arms puts out amazing quality almost universally. If you have to have a well-known brand, Daniel Defense or Larue are both solid. If you're willing to take a gamble, Live Free Armory.
>>
>>31937041
I could sell my ar-15 and just upgrade to it's bigger brother too, that's always an option, but I'm not sure I wanna do that
I'll look at the mega stuff maybe, that DD looks a bit meh to me
>>
>>31937052
If you really want you could also just buy a Matrix Arms or Aero M5E1 receiver set and build your own. As long as you're very careful in selecting your stock, handguard, and barrel you should be able to get something that's exactly what you want.
>>
>>31937052
When buying an AR-10, make sure you look at the parts compatibility. Unlike the AR-15, not all AR-10 parts are created equal and they don't all fit together.
>>
>>31937123
one of the reasons I've just considered getting a scar
I've seen them shoot MOA quite a bit, so I'm not sure if an ar-10 is worth it at this point

DSA is the only company making new ones. They're ok, but nothing compared to FALs built with mainly foreign parts. I would get a used one off gunbroker or armslist if I was you. Look for ones built on imbel recievers to buy, don't get one built on an enterprise arms made receiver. StG58's tend to be the most accurate FAL, so look for one built with an stg barrel.

What's the difference between a BR and an AR?
>>
>>31957043
>not using Google
Assault rifles are select-fire weapons which feed intermediate cartridges from a detachable magazine. Battle rifles may also use detachable magazines, select fire, and other features that make them seem like assault rifles, but the key difference is that they fire full-power cartridges and are a much larger family that includes everything from Lee Enfeild and Springfield bolt-actions to modern weapons like the SCAR-H.
>>
>>31957043
>>31957063
Unless by AR you of course mean Armalite Rifle pattern weapons, which are, generally, not actually assault rifles, being that they usually do not have select-fire models available for civilian use and ownership. ARs are highly customisable because of their modular design, which makes them quite popular.

depends on what the conflicts average engagement range is. The longer it is the better the Battle rifle is then the assault rifle. For instance in afghanistan it might have been better to give the troops battle rifles as average engagement distance was over 800 meters I believe.
>>
>>31958339
edit, the more above about 400 meter the better the battle rifle looks also you don't and should give everyone a battle rifle assault rifles are better for suppressive fire that is the staple of modern warfare you gotta have a few

Just got this bad boy (Sa58 FAL) for $1100
Plus 11 Mags and 550 rounds
Did I do good?
>>
>>31958559
Is it a voyager model? what's with the tiny mag?
>>
>>31958586
The one it has rn is is a 5 round but the rest are 20 and I believe so. I want to change the stock to a folding one and put a top cover with rails for a sight. I also want to paint it with a Rhodesian color scheme. Do you have any experience with those two things?
>>
>>31958676
Buy folding stock lower. You'd have to swap out the trigger and other innards. Costs $400 for the lower itself
>>
>>31958676
well, to get a folding stock you'll need a new bolt carrier and spring along with the stock. You can get a good railed top cover from DSA, and painting rhodie color scheme is just getting some baby shit green and yellow paint and slathering it on the gun like you don't care.
>>
>>31958707
>>31958710
Is it possible for me the buy the no nose cut kit on DSA's website and just use the parts I have for the gun right now?

Can SCAR 17 owners tell me pros and cons?
>>
>>31961961
Shits amazing
FN doesnt import enough of them
>>
>>31961961
cons: heavier than a 5.56 rifle, reciprocating charging handle, expensive as hell
pros: literally everything else
>>
>>31962017
reciprocating CH isnt that big a deal honestly
>>
>>31962024
In a vehicle or around a barrier I can imagine it would be annoying
>>
>>31961961
the biggest con for me is the current market price. lightly used ones going for almost $1000 more than a year ago really makes it unappealing to me.
>>
>>31962045
Its basically just above the magazine. Its not often your going to have the magazine sitting on a barricade, its possible though. Especially since one generally put the CH on the side of your weak hand.

There are folding CHs too

Car? Well I guess I could see it as a potential snag point, again, folding CH though.

>>

No, its closer to 300 or so. cause thats the farthest they could effectively engage us with their AKs

1 moa factory, maybe more. The price depends on if FN wants to import more. It could go down if Trump removes clintons EOs, but I don't know if that's effecting it.
>>
>>31962116
With hornady match loads I get moa, ive gotten under moa with some exceedingly consistent handloads.

Thinking of picking up a 6.5 creedmoor barrel now that Deadshot barrels is putting them out.

Any way for a /not21fag/ to get an FAL receiver?

I'm converting my 21'' dsa sa 58 to a 18'' para. Could any of you recommend a scope for plinking and being able to hunt. I think I need a scope that is 1-5 zoom or 1-4 but I just don't know which scopes are good. Can I get some recommendations for something between $200-$300.
>>
>>31964224
Buy a whole rifle
Have a parent buy it for you
Private transaction with a non FFL seller
>>
>>31964352
At your budget, vortex strike eagle.
Converting to pass is going to cost you quite a bit more than that though
>>
I want an M1A

>>
>>31966098

>>
>>31965849
One thing to remember: never ever get anything but milspec forged receivers.

I've seen people with cast M1As, they all begin to malfunction after a time (depends how often they used it) because the receiver started to stretch.
>>
>>31964352
>>31965821
I'll second a strike eagle. I really like mine on my AR.
>>
>>31966239
You'd have Google up an answer.

This may not be the thread to ask but would it be better to build a fal from a parts kit, or to outright buy a completed one and from which manufacturer?
>>
anywhere to get inch parts kits?
>>
>>31966930
They pop up on forums from time to time, they don't seem terribly common at all so good luck on that one.
>>
>>31966930
Throw up a WTB posting on the FALfiles. Put a price your willing to pay in the title to grab peoples attention.
>>
>>31965849
The new ones are fine. GI parts are not made of some super metal that never breaks. Forged receiver talk is fuddlore.
>>
>>31968463
Cast from back in the day was that bad.
Modern castings are as strong as older forgings
