It's a meme gun famed by fudlore
There ore 64 models were excellent but post are shit especially recent ones (and are stupid overpriced)
Just buy a cheap sporteriezed Milsurp.
>>
Possibly the most boring gun ever made

but they are gorgeous espcially the SA featherweight model.
>>
>expensive
>not made in the US anymore
Just get a Tikka T3x if you're buying foreign. Factory 1MOA guarantee.
>>
>>31919226
It's a fine hunting rifle, but 308 is probably better than 30-06. The extra muzzle velocity of a 30-06 doesn't really do anything, and you'll appreciate the shorter action, lighter weight, cheaper ammo, and reduced recoil and muzzle blast.
>>31919605
I own both. The are both fine hunting rifles, but I don't like the stocks on Tikkas. Got a Bell and Carlson for it, and it shoots and handles like a dream.
>>
>>31919226
Model 70 Super grade is my favorite hunting rifle of all time.

All these tacticool faggots think it's boring, but the pre-64 style Winchester Model 70 is the pinnacle of the development of the Mauser action.
>>
I've got one and I like it but its just a bolt action rifle in the end
>>
A .30-06 is never a mistake.
>>
>>31919226
Great rifle, but it's the definition of fudd.

it was good enough for carlos hathcock to remove charlie.
>>
Get an FN SPR. It's a pre-64 controlled feed Winchester action, with chromed barrel and sub-moa accuracy. I think FN bought Winchester to get the action patent.
>>
>>31919226
Its good. 30-06 is a panic proof round. Brand new ones are higher quality with excellent fit and finish compared to older ones. Action is actually controlled feed and push, which is very good. Smoother action than any rem700, savage, and tikka.

Price is shit, but its one of those buy once cry once type of guns. You wont regret it once you see the quality.
>>
If it's not chambered in a flat-shooting magnum cartridge, don't waste your money

I recommend 7mmRM or 300WM

They're a classic.
The only reason I would sell mine would be to get a Blaser.
>>
>>31919226

great hunting rifles
better than getting a current production Remington 700
I'd still spring for a browning A bolt or X bolt tho if youre looking for a hunting rifle

Ive got an A bolt II in .30-06 and it's a fucking tack driver
>>
>>31919264
I picked up one of the classic models a few years back and it puts cheap factory in a little over an inch group and hand loads well under an inch. I think the bad ones are the post 64 to mid 90s ones
>>
>>31923913
Post 2008 since FN took over they are generally considered to be excellent
>>
>>31919331
What does that even mean? Not tactical enough?
>>
>>31919249

I see what you did there..
>>
>>31919226

I have a sporter model in that caliber as my primary hunting rifle. It is excellent. The fit and finish is flawless, the action is glass bedded and the barrel free floated. I like the trigger as it comes for a hunting gun, but it's not easily adjustable as it is advertised to be. I have found that 165g cor lokts and federal premium 180s will both print around 3/4moa out of it.

All in all its a gorgeous gun with a lot of desirable features. Sometimes I wish I'd picked up the extreme weather model instead because the stock on mine is so pretty, I hate banging it around in the woods.

>>31919264

This guy has no idea what he's talking about. Post 2008 models are superb.
>>
>>31922697

It's also heavy as fuck. They're all made by FN now.
>>
>>31921085

So the brand isn't tactical enough for you

Deer hunting isn't operating
>>
>>31925645
I know how you feel about the stock, but hey you can always get an aftermarket synthetic stock from Hogue, the Overmolded stocks are meant to be pretty good.
>>
I'd say that's a fine selection. Though I wonder if it would be better to get it in .308.
>>
>>31925674

I'm planning on going sheep hunting next year and I'll be swapping out the stock for sure if that comes to fruition. Never handled them, but they look good.
>>
>>31925685
'06 is way cooler.
150grains for smaller stuff and 220s for bigger, much more versatile IMO.
EVERYONE loves an ought six
>>
How's the trigger pull on it? I'm considering one since it's one of the few rifles Nanny state dearest can't fadangle in Commiefornia, plus I want a nice bolt-action that isn't a nugget.
>>
>>31925775
Mines perfect out of the box for, light, no take up and almost zero creep, its 2 years old
Never messured it but will do it later for shits n giggles
>>
>>31925805
Huh its 3.7lbs, heavier than I thought, probably because its so crisp
>>
>>31919226
I heard they hurt a lot.

>Inb4 someone says you have to buy a pre-1966 model or you're buying junk and are stupid.
