Why do people hate on 7.62x39 so much while praising the .45

I think it's a Russian hate thing. I've loved my SKS to death since I've bought it.

I dunno. I look love the 7.6x39 cartridge. Maybe the hate comes from hating something that isn't American? The 7.62x39 does a lot of things well enough. Intermediate cartridges rock.

If anyone was looking, Dick's had boxes of 100 rounds for $30 yesterday. Don't know if they are still that cheap. Funny story, I bought one and a box of 50 9mm, the upstanding african american that checked me out (who was NOT high, you can be assured of that) scanned in the 9mm first, then while the "check ID" error message popped up, scanned the 7.62, but of course it didn't scan, since the register was waiting for age verification. My total was $13.

The 7.62x39 is hated because you might as well just shoot 5.56. Much better ballistics.

It's an outdated poorfag round made for drunk russians or inbred hajis.

The free world uses .223, and for good reason.

This, big and slow is (mostly) a pistol thing because all pistol rounds have crummy human killing performance. Rifles don't have the case/barrel size limitations that pistols do and can thus do both big enough and fast enough at once.

This is a classic situation where you should listen to your own advice.

It's not a great round. I love it, but it's lacking. You won't be able to shoot at more than 400 meters if that's a factor. Over all though, it's a fun round with tons of energy behind it. Just don't overlook the fact that it's a glorified pistol cartridge.

7.62x39 carries more than three times the muzzle energy of a 45 acp. People bitch about 7.62x39 vs 5.56x45. 7.62 is slower but has larger bullets which are 2-3x the weight of a 223 as well as an additional 200ish ft/lbs of muzzle energy.

223/556 are tiny light but very fast bullets. Fast bullets can do more tissue damage and penetrate armor better.

They are both just intermediate rifle cartridges with each their own special advantages and disadvantages.

Then comes 300blk. better than both, superior energy from short 8-10" barrels, capable of great suppression. Bullet weights ranging from 70 some grains up to 245 grains . In terms of energy, it is roughly equal to 7.62 but is capable of firing a broad range of bullet weights and very little loss of energy when going from a 16" rifle barrel down to a 10". I get 1,300 ft/lbs of muzzle energy from my 147gr fmj reloads out of a 10" barrel. A 556 from the same length barrel is pitiful. A low 750 ft/lbs of muzzle energy.
