My grandfather had a F-18 ejection seat for as long as I can remember. He left it to my dad when he passed and we dont know wtf to do with it. Is it something we can easily sell or what?

Easy, forget the name for it but it's on the aim 9's tail fins.

Do you happen to work with these weapons?
>>
>>31916053
YES! Rolleron. And No, I am in the process of building a scale AIM9 for a High powered rocketry certification. I bought the rolleron, and am reverse engineering it so I can 3D print some for scale. As for the sensor, a friend actually had it, and I recognized it so I got some pics for reference material.

>>
>>31916059
That's fucking awesome man. I work with the training versions of those things every day.
>>
>>31916074
In that case, I do have a related question if you could answer. The fins at the front- with the stepper motors for adjustments- what diameter are the shafts? is it .25" or is it a larger rod like .375"?
>>
>>31916084
I don't work that extensively with them. I just put hands on them a lot. Wish I could help but can't.

I'm fucking jelly of that radome, how'd your buddy come across one? I cant think of any logical reason as to why it wouldn't be where it is supposed to be other than shady shit.
>>
>>31916100
Hahaha I know. I was at his shop and I noticed it, and pulled up some blueprints on my phone to check, and sure as shit I was right. I asked him a bit about it, but didn't prod too much. I just assumed it was a gift through rocketry friends. Weird stuff gets passed around.
>>
>>31915949
There's collectors for this stuff, the helmets alone can go for a fair bit. I'm sure an ejection seat could fetch you $1000+
>>
>>31916112
Baller as fuck. How detailed do you plan on getting with your project?
>>
>>31916127
Well for the nose I am just going to cast a clear shell out of polyester resin, and maybe a CD or something inside to look like that floating mirror. maybe a couple 3D printed parts to make it look more realistic, but at the end of the day, the body tubes are fiberglass and the cone has to have enough space for some weights so I can shift my CG forward.
>>
>>31916140
Sounds fucking awesome. Keep us posted you son of a bitch.
>>
>>31915949
You have to build a jet for it. I've had spare AR charging handles that motivated me to build a gun so it stands to reason you're going to have to home build a fighter jet.
>>
>>31915499
Where did you get the seeker? I've thought about having one for a while but have no clue where to find it.
>>
>>31916971
I explained earlier, it's not mine, I just saw it at a buddies shop. I didn't think to ask where he got it though because in the rocketry community cool stuff gets passed around.

It's stable when you have several pounds of high explosives in the front. My CG is going to be at the very end of the rocket, I am going to have to use ballast to try and get CG to near the centroid of the rocket but still. It is not the most stable design for models. Not even to mention that CP is going to be too far forward.

Well I am only recording some basic info, as for the chutes, I am using a dual deployment rig, at the apex I will deploy a drogue chute to slow the fall, and when it gets closer to the ground I will deploy my main chute. Otherwise it would drift too far from the wind.
