What happens in the ISS if a war breaks out between major countries?
Do Russian,Chinese and Americans astronauts attack the each other with plastic spoons ?

They are non combatants and the ISS is a non military installation. Also, they are couligues and have been friends for decades. So they would do nothing.

That being said, anti satellite missiles would be launched at military satellites. Kessler Syndromeis a cruel mistress for anything in low earth orbit.

There is 2 Russians and 1 American on board. And Russians has Makarovs. I think they will continue their science mission and left station as usual. Maybe, American will left separately. Most radical thing to do is to separate Russian part of station from ISS. It is theoretically possible.

Economic and scientific ties are deterrents to war. We have contracts with Russia that they are going to abide by until 2018. Last month they did not renew them and suggested that we send our astronauts into orbit via a trampoline. Don't expect anything til 2018
>>
>>31909590
This.

Astronauts are scientists, working in an international environment. They are akk very proud and happy to be part.of something so remote of lame earth politics, because most of them believe it's nonsense when there are so many things to work commonly toward for the sake if all humanity.
Also they are crammed in a tinbox together for months, they usually get along or befriend each other.
They would probably be desperate about the war and wait for it to end. If the iss is not blown away of course...
>>
>>31909796
>>31909809

Make it so the Chinese sent a missile to down the thing that damaged the reentry vehicle while not succeeding at destroying the station or taking it out of orbit.
That'd be a good movie.

>The delay of 46 seconds caused the spacecraft to land 386 km from the intended landing zone, in the inhospitable forests of Upper Kama Upland, somewhere west of Solikamsk. Although flight controllers had no idea where the spacecraft had landed or whether Leonov and Belyayev had survived, the cosmonauts' families were told that they were resting after having been recovered. The two men were both familiar with the harsh climate and knew that bears and wolves, made aggressive by mating season, lived in the taiga; the spacecraft carried a pistol and "plenty of ammunition", but the incident later drove the development of a dedicated survival gun, the TP-82. Although aircraft quickly located the cosmonauts, the area was so heavily forested that helicopters could not land. Night arrived, the temperature dropped to −5 degrees Celsius (23 degrees Fahrenheit), and the spacecraft's hatch had been blown open by explosive bolts. Warm clothes and supplies were dropped and the cosmonauts spent a freezing night in the capsule or Sharik in Russian. Even worse, the electrical system completely malfunctioned so that the heater would not work, but the fans ran at full blast. A rescue party arrived on skis the next day as it was too risky to try an airlift from the site.[8][9] The advance party chopped wood and built a small log cabin and an enormous fire. After a more comfortable second night in the forest the cosmonauts skied to a waiting helicopter several kilometers away and flew first to Perm, then to Baikonur for their mission debriefing.

if there is a nuclear exchange then mid-course anti-ballistic missiles that shoot down warheads while they are still in space like the russian Gorgan missiles protecting moscow and american GMD missiles in alaska would cause a ruckus in space too especially if the Gorgans still have low-yield neutron bomb wearheads fitted

most of western yatnikistan would get their powerlines raped by EMP trying in vain to save moscow from a unstoppable downpour of warheads and decoys

Why would the Russians waste a good sleeper agent on the ISS? There is absolutely zero strategic value to taking it over.

The Russians would have far better places for such a valuable asset.

>>
>>31922406
the iss is at 51.6 degrees orbital inclination, you can just wait for it to go over the US and deorbit into the US or near it.

hell in a war scenario you could potentially even ditch it into the pacific then have a nearby attack sub surface and pick the crew up.

>On one occasion a Soviet spacecraft, Soyuz 23, punched through the ice of a frozen lake (nearly killing the cosmonauts), and this was unintentional.
The Soyuz capsule's parachutes filled with water and pulled the craft underwater, and frogmen had to attach floatation devices to the capsule the next morning to bring it to the surface. I would avoid landing in the ocean at all costs.
>>
>>31922951
the soyuz has a soft landing system (rocket boosters), if you were landing in the ocean you would just separate the parachutes shortly before you activated the landing system. iirc the soyuz even has a mode to do this because of soyuz 23.

There are many space races.

The Russians had the first satellite, it is true. But Sputnik was a simple beacon that went dark in less than a month. The Explorer 1, launched by the US the next year, carried several science payloads, including micrometeorite counters and the sensors that would provide the first data about the Van Allen belts.

The US was first and only to the Moon. Russia, on the other hand, progressed rapidly in space station operations. The US is hands down the reigning champ in Mars missions, interplanetary probes, orbital observatories, and GPS. The Russians, on the other hand, own all the records for sucessful Venus missions.

The Americans have the first and most reusable spaceplane missions, including over a hundred payload-carrying trips to orbit. The Russians had the first flight of an unmanned orbital spaceplane, a test flight. The Americans came to this race much later, but brought practical applications with them.

It's not a single space race. It's an entire space olympics. In many of the events, Russia has been first out the gate, but has not been the best performer overall. In other events, Russia has clearly invested in expertise and mastery, and should rightfully be proud.
>>
>>31909359

the astronauts don't see themselves as part of it. There is no point in fighting amongst themseleves.
