Finally did it /k/.

Picked up a SW 686 used and 150rds 38spcl, 50rds .357mag for around $675.

Yes, I know the evil Hillary hole, but I plan on plugging it and I don't see this as a collectors piece.

Plan on picking up a few safariland comp II speed loaders and a Galco holster next paycheck.

Otherwise how did I do /k/ommandos, and revolver love general.

This is for my S&W 625 I'm building for USPSA revolver division

so I'm cutting the cylinder back to reduce the rotational mass the bolt has to stop under rapid double-action firing.

It also provides a slight reduction in trigger pull because it reduces cylinder weight which factors into your double action pull.

Did I mention almost all USPSA revolver class shooting is in double action?

I've also polished my engagement surfaces on my trigger which has greatly smoothed the trigger pull.

As for accounting for the faced down cylinder, I will have a longer shank on the barrel, shooting for a .0012" cylinder gap (what our instructor recommends for race guns)

I'm also re-barrelling this gun. Then I'll cerakote it gold and white, slap my leupold deltapoint pro on top, and hopefully display it at SHOT show 2017!!

Second, the much under appreciated Casio.
Simple, neat, easy to use. Plus great for "improvised" projects lel.

Not bad for the price. Check check for cylinder wobble, that the barrel still has good threads and the hammer doesn't "push off" (google that one).

I got the revolver bug and just bought a 586-8 6inch model.

I've been doing some reading, and it seems I would have done better to have just bought an older Smith and Wesson, probably would have gotten it at a better price that the new one as well.

But, I wanted this revolver to really put a lot of rounds through and practice with, even for competition, so perhaps I did good by buying this one, and then in the future, buying an old smith just for collection.

You mean rifling? I don't think revolvers generally have threaded muzzles.

he means the threads on the barrel shank, which is what threads into the frame.

a dumb thing to recommend because it's not like you're gonna get your action wrench out and take the barrel off standing there in the shop.

unless it's got a dan wesson barrel system on it.

Its the internal locking system on the revolver. Its a key actuated safety. Its been known to very rarely fail and lock up the gun, but mostly it looks ugly as fuck having that stupid hole above the cylinder release
>>31905032

>>31910213
what do you think makes steel stainless?
>>
>>31910419
I'm a gunsmith not a metallurgist dammit.

But I know for certain that isn't a chrome coating. And a chrome-steel alloy certainly wouldn't constitute a "chrome gun"

Also hating stainless steel is dumb it's better than chro-moly for receiver/frame material for revolvers. It has better harmonics than chro-moly does.

Just cerkote the damn thing if you want a matte finish.
>>
>>31910230
You Lose alot of velocity with such a short barrel, while making the noise and flash louder. You should go for a short barrel 357 load to help with the report. Though at the short of a barrel a 38 spl might be better, you just get a little less velocity. Then if you are outside then it don't matter as much.

Steel with more than ~11% chromium is considered stainless, aside from D2. Chromium makes steel brittle, moreso than standard carbon steels. If your choices are shit potmetals or stainless, stainless is usually better. If you can get decent forged steels they're usually better and longer lasting than stainless, unless you're planning to use it around salt water.

These are the reasons I don't buy Taurus or Ruger anymore. They're either cast or shit potmetals like the SIG mosquito or the P22. Taurus quit making their .454casull revolvers because their shit potmetal frames only handled a few hundred rounds before they stretched.
>>
>>31904269
S&W is the best revolver you can get and that one has a great barrel length, grip and overall proportion, nice gun. Don't worry about the Hillary hole either, they're fine, they don't lock up, it's a complete non-issue, except as a reminder that Hillary is the enemy of your gun.
As far as the price, it depends entirely on the condition. That price sounds reasonable, how is the:
>cylinder lock up
>bore
>cylinder gap
>hammer fall off
?
>>
>>31913328
>cylinder lock up
Great, welded fit with minimal play on rotational axis
>bore
Rifling looks nice and shiny, no pitting, clean crisp lands and grooves
>cylinder gap
Don't own go-nogo gauges but I can not fit anything larger than a sheet of paper in
>hammer fall off
Not sure what that is honestly, new to revolvers, there is no push off if that's what you mean, the internals are damn near new looking

Now I just need to take it out and shoot it. Still haven't taken my 92FS I bought 2 months ago. I'm a pistol novice, rifle I am a decent shot but I have minimal pistol experience.

Once I have handling down I need to get my LTCF(live in PA). Only problem I don't know anyone for references here, moved from rural NY about 5 months ago and sheriff says all my references must be PA residents in the county I apply in.

Yes

Very nice gun, grats.
I've owned a few S&W revolvers. I'd be reluctant to take the side plate off. I've detail stripped them myself but they're complicated and the side plates need to be put in and removed properly to keep from rounding the edges on their perfect fit.

Shoot around 2k hot buffalo bore through an sp100. I'll wait.

Because you're dumb enough to not know where that assumption comes from doesn't mean it's true. They're no stronger than S&W everywhere but one non-magnum cartridge. S&W is forged while ruger is cast. There's no reason to buy cast unless you're poor.

Excuse me while I hijack this thread. My 686 suffers from a peculiar problem. When I shoot 357 the shells slide back from recoil against the recoil shield. This jams the cylinder keeping it from rotating. Pic related with empty shells for illustration. Anyone else have this problem and what do?

I use the Speer Golt Dot 135gr for short barrels and it hurts so fucking bad out of this thing. The powder doesn't just burn, it fucking explodes violently.
>>
Are the colt snake guns really worth 2500+?
Id like a nice revolver and the older ones seem nicer. 2.5k just seems really fuckin expensive for a 6 shooter, especially one i would feel aweful if it got damaged.
>>
>>31917286
they're only worth that because they're rare. You can take a colt and have it worked over by a competent smith and get the same result as a snake gun
