I have an old surplus GI 20 round mag. When I load it to 20 rounds and shoot all of them, on the last round, the bolt locks back, and the round just gets pulled out of the mag. What do?
>>
>>31903548
Only load to 19
>>
>>31903548
sounds like the follower needs to be replaced. check the feed lips are straight, but it's likely they are okay.

Load it with 18? It's like you want the VC to catch you with your pants down.
>>
>>31903548

NEVER load a magazine to full capacity. You will have malfunctions that way.

20rd mag - Load with 18 rounds
30rd mag - Load with 28 rounds

This is standard practice in the Army.
>>
>>31903692
Why would it cause malfunctions? Couldn't this rather dumb problem be fixed relatively easily?

Guys he said the last round
>>
Bent feed lips, the last round is actually poping out of the mag when the bolt is completly rearword and is just sitting inside the action, meanwhile the mag catch is engaged because no rds are holding the follower down.
Solution is new mags
>>
>>31903692
>This is standard practice in the Army.
Not for the past half century, so far as I'm aware.
>>
>>31903548
Bought some 20rders from brownells same thing happens to me. I'm gonna change the follower and try again. I want 20 rds Goddamn it
>>
>>31903692
>t.1980s advice.
>>
>>31903692
my colt ar15 20rd-ers won't even take 20 rounds. the follower visibly bottoms out at 18
>>
>>31903548
feed lips are damaged or springs need to be replaced
>>
>>31903692
Maybe if you're at fucking Passchendaele.
>>
>>31903548

Buy better magazines
>>
>>31903692
Nice bullshit you're repeating, noguns.
>>
>>31903692

It won't cause malfunctions, they're just easier to load at 18 or 28 rounds on a closed bolt.

>>31904310

this
>>
>>31903692
Confirmed for never having handled a USGI M-16 magazine.
>>
>>31903548
throw it in your closet and go buy a surplus 30 round mag for 5 bucks at your local gun show.
>>
>>31903692

80s advice for a 1960s M16A1 20 round magazine common fault.
>carried a M16A1/203 through the second half of the 80s. Always 18 in a 20round mag
>>
>>31903548
Not possible.

If the bolt locks it cannot strip a round from the mag. If the feed lips are fucked to the point rounds come put it would pop rounds at full not near empty.

Good b8 m8
>>
>>31904232
Only heard this about the extra shitter mags for bootcamp. Never heard it relation to new stanags.
>>
>>31903692
no it isn't. i spent OEF and OIF as an FO attached to 2/502nd AB and nobody did that shit or even heard about it. if you get a shitty mag where the lips aren't attached to the body at the rear you swap it out or you bend it into shape or you use PMAGs off the PX/BX. some dude have issues seating a mag on a closed bolt, so you lock the bolt open and charge up that way. both the 16 and 4 locks open when empty so it's no big deal in a fight.

beat to shit mags that were in DS and somalia and shit even greneda work great after a new spring and follower. fuck the black ones - the lime green and browns were good.

>>31903548
if your last round is just popping up but the bolt isn't pushing it forward you have a bent feed lip on the right side of the mag that's releasing the last round early but locking the bolt open when it tries to go forward. check that first, or replace the mag entirely. check for weirdness in the follower especially if it's the short kind that doesn' t have the legs to keep it from tilting.
>>
>>31903548
>what do?
Post good pics of the fucking magazine feed lips
>>

Pt.2. Carried modern 30rd polymer mags in afghan. With 30 rounds in each. No problems.
>OP has "old surplus GI" 20 rounders, the load to 18 advice applies until he buys some less-shitty mags
