To all you soldiers out there, how does it feel to know that your only function in society is to kill and destroy?
Does it make you feel dirty? Does it make you feel evil? Does it make you hard?
>>31900750
It's a job.
>>31900780
So you see yourself as a sort of craftsman, not as a psycho killer for hire?
>>31900800
Stop trying to make it something its not.
>>31900750
Former 11b here. I was given body armor, a rifle, and combat training to protect both myself and those around me while enforcing government policy. We weren't murder squads going around blasting everything in site. We never fired a shot unless fired upon, or we saw someone/something that posed a threat.
how does it feel to be stupid?
>yes, i fell for the bait
also, that target is shit and whoever shot it should feel like shit
>>31900750
>kill and destroy
>not mop and sweep floors
>>31900750
>kill and destroy
Humans kill each other. So it is, so it's always been.
>evil
Both sides of a conflict will see themselves as good and the other side evil. Good and evil is thus a false dichotomy, and to have it as a world view is quite simply stupid.
>>31900802
But.... you kill people.... for money.
>>31900850
Last I checked, we don't have any specific military career paths for executioners.
I think you're thinking of something else.
>>31900808
it's not bait.
I genuinely want your thoughts on the matter.
I've never been a soldier and wanted to know how you fellas feel about what people think of you and what you think of yourselves?
Like you've shot/blown-up/stabbed/beaten people to death. What stops you from doing that for a different paymaster?
And do you care how people see your profession, do you try to hide that fact that you are/were a soldier?
>>31900887
>What stops you from doing that for a different paymaster?
Morals? It's pretty obvious.
>>31900850
But OP is a faggot
>>31900887
Alright, if you're not baiting.
>joined because muh murrica
>also had no money and wasnt ready for college
>got a pretty hard to get job
>yeah, part of the side effects of what i do is that people die
Do i care? Yeah. And i understand that they are still people. But im doing what i have to do to keep me and mine fed, and im good at it. Also they wouldnt hesitate to lop my head off if they could, so, fuck em.
>tfw I'll never get to brag about what i did.
>>31900808
>be in the military deployed to a war zone
>only allowed to act defensively, never attack anything
I'm more interested in how you feel about this than OP's stupid edgy question.
I mean... it mustn't feel great being only called when you need to kill. It's dirty business. It stains the soul. It must. It haunts men.
What keeps you going? Why not pursue a less distressing profession?
>>31900964
Just out of curiousity, what do YOU do for a living?
>>31900977
CTR
>>31900964
>I think overly dramatic movies are real life
>>31900936
Because people will think you're evil?
That must suck.
I suppose only fellow soldiers would understand.
>>31900977
Retail.
>>31900979
:^)
>>31900995
No, you nerd, its because it's classified. I could give a fuck if anyone thinks it's evil.
>>31900750
Oh, shut up, faggot.
>>31900993
and i suppose you think PTSD is bs?
Real men don't go insane.
>>31901024
>People only get PTSD from killing people
Hurr a Durr
drones do all the killing
soldiers just keep the toilets clean
>>31901034
>>31900750
The average soldier's function is actually to vacuum parking lots, rake lines in dirt, and wax floors with a sock.
Once you master those skills you graduate to advanced soldiering such as napping in a closet, pretending to have shin splints, raiding the MREs for 10 year old skittles, and deliberately failing your PT test.
>>31900750
It's been a few years since I first joined and I still haven't killed anyone. Shit, I guess I'm just doing it wrong.
>>31901067
>>31901098
Get out and become a hitman for the mob. Plenty of wops need dying.
>>31901067
Nonsense, you intentionally max your PT test so you can fuck off for a month and then fail the next one.
Yeah brah, all those dudes in Pay Corp have raging erections 24/7 and truck drivers like nothing more that to dry hump their HEMTT's.
>>31900995
Holy shit, why do you sound like such an edgy little bitch?
>>31901011
Kek
>>31901126
See, that's why we're the best in the world. We're always reevaluating and refining our essential soldier skills.
>>31900850
I mop floors for money. I never killed anyone and neither has most infantry, let alone most military.
>>31901200
Well hope that changes.
>>31901223
Hillary is probably the better choice for absurd foreign wars.
>>31900750
makes me feel good
What about the team that maintains GPS?
>Status TOLD
>>31901300
I'm glad.
More blood for the blood god.
>>31900750
As that american general used to say
"I love to brawl"
>>31900750
kill and destroy? lol nah i sit behind a desk all day
>>31900750
'salright
Nz here , our military just goes over and helps a pacific island every time one gets its ass handed to it by a natural disaster
>>31900750
Respect only he who gave you life and he who can take it away.
>>31900750
Soldiers protect LibTards like you, so you can go to overpriced Universities that fill your head full of bullshit, and get a degree in something that will never land you a job, and talk shit about something you know nothing about, you wrongheaded communist fuck
>>31900750
Yum, bait.
Ok. So here's my two cents. I live in America. Not many Americans join the service. I wanted better opportunities than I had. I joined the service for said opportunities, and because, well, I live in country, reap benefits of citizen ship, figured I'd put my country, and all the Fucking spergs, shitposters, and general fuck heads you find online, ahead of myself.
I made that decision knowing that the sum purpose of my taking that oath is that I will kill for my country. Anyone who doesn't understand this shouldn't be allowed to use sharp sticks, let alone interact with polite society.
>>31900750
Retired US army here. I was a combat engineer. Feels like any other job I would imagine. Do you goto chefs and ask them about their jobs? Or pilots, or factory workers? Its pretty easy to slap a few baity words onto a job and ask dumb questions.
I do feel dirty with that sweet 30% disability I get as well, which just get the blood going knowing I get great parking.
>>31900750
>implying everyone is morally linear
Step outside some time. Or don't. Sounds like this world would eat your 13 year old ass up real quick.
>>31901011
That's gotta suck
>>31900850
Technically they kill the "enemy" for money.
You kill the "enemy" not the "people" as a soldier.
ROE.
>>31901385
"Don't lead 'em as much"
>>31903038
the "protecting your country" meme
kek
>>31903671
Meh. It is what it is. You find ways to deal with it without releasing shit. Personally i just drink a lot.
>>31900750
Feels good man, feels good.
>>31900750
Just read "On Killing" if youre not a troll. If troll, fuck you I wasted that fuck and would do it again. He was an enemy combatant but the fact he was likley a douche makes it better.
>>31900750
It's pretty aight. I only kill indirectly, and by the nature of my work, only people I've proven to need killing.
I no longer agree with what I do, politically. But I signed a contract and I will uphold my end of it.
>>31900750
coward detected
A soldier just serves their country's interest. Sure a lot of them end up having to kill people, but so what. You must be pretty bored posting this lazy ass bait.
>>31900750
Just one in every 10 soldiers is an actual "front line" soldier.
The rest are there to support or perform operations not involving direct use of violence.
You as a tax payer and voter are as "evil" and "dirty" as the guys who where send to war. Send by an elected government, equipped and paid with tax-money.
>>31900850
Wrong. I was conscripted, and would have killed people trying to invade our neutral, democratic country and to kill us all.
>>31900850
You also do stuff like construction, disaster relief, peacekeeping, and a myriad of other duties. Killing is about 1% of what we do; the only reason it feels special is because no one else is explicitly trained to do it. Just because it's an esoteric skill/duty doesn't make it the be-all and end-all of what we do.
>>31900750
Soldiers job is defend and support the interests of the state and its citizens.
They are authorized to use deadly force to achieve those goals, true, but it's not the goal itself.
I bet you also think hunters job is to kill animals.
>>31903513
Essayons motherfucker.
>>31900750
It was my job. I laugh when people say we helped people. I was Infantry, it's literally in the job description.
It was always weird when my sweet grandma asked me, "so what do you do all day?". Ummm, "I train to kill people, Grandma".
Don't get me started about the time I tossed a pile of spaghetti at a Fire Chief.
>>31900808
Not all 11 bravos share this mindset, i've met plenty of sociopath/psychopathic killers in the infantry.
>>31908096
This is what people say who have never actually killed for their country.
>>31900750
I get kicked out of planes, hurt people and break things. Its exactly what I signed up for.
>>31900750
>>31900750
>how does it feel to know that your only function in society is to kill and destroy?
How does it feel to not have a function in society at all?
>>31900887
You're a psychopath if you can't think of any reasons yourself

That book the best answer I can think of for the actual killing part of your question. But depending on what branch/division of the military you're in, killing isn't going to be you're number one priority. Fighting boredom, treating sore feet, and finding new spank material will be primary concerns.
