I just looked this weapon up, being a big fan of martial arts weapons, I thought it would be up my alley.

Over two hundred dollars for that piece of wood.

Is it worth it, bros?

Would I be better off crafting my own in my basement shop?

>a stick with rivets in it
Just make your own, with bolts, adds a few sharp corners on the way.
>>
>>31890238
I could probably do up one pretty nice.
Probably would do a ribbed handle.

Think oak would be the best wood for this project?

If I can get a plan together, I might make it a little weekend activity.

Hell, what do you think the real market is? If those guys sell them for two hundred, I could probably sell for 150. I don't know what the demand for these kinds of weapons are, though.
>>
>>31890286
You'd probably want a rubber-wrapped handle to give a comfortable grip and ease the shocks to your wrists, oak is goid for this sort of thing.
Selling- if these zeebs are selling for that price, you can too. Have fun!

A rubber handle would be ideal, but I don't know if I have the shit to pull that off.

Maybe I drill a hole or two through and do a paracord wrap real tight.

I just wonder how many people want something like that.

>>
>>31891102
I get that concept of it, sure.
It just looks off.

I really think just going with a bat would be better.

Say, while I got everyone here, I'm curious about nail bats. Do you just nail a long one all the way through the bat, or is there a different technique? More importantly, does this compromise the wood on impact?

Is just a bat/club unencumbered by add-ons, more effective and does it hold up better over time?
>>
>>31891137
As I said, I was bored, had the stuff around me and had a silly idea, so I make it a real thing.

>>31891176
I'm not trying to bust your balls, friend.
I was just trying to understand your thought process a little when you set out to create that thing.
>>
>>31891164
Two ways of making spike bat, the one you said concerning nailing an extra long one through, or the retarded way of pushing normal nails through a piece of duct tape through the adhesive side and wrapping it around the bat, makes it easier to replace busted nails though.

Whatever you're striking, the nails will probably be too long to reach through to the bat to do any damage, but using the drill method might compromise it's integrity, make it more brittle if there's too many.

Honestly though nail bats aren't that effective of weapons, they can be devastating sure but will more than likely get stuck in whatever you're hitting, and will definitely snag on everything, not to mention be likely to hit you back.

A regular aluminum bat will suit you just fine.

Thanks, anon, that answered pretty much every question I had.

I do feel, that despite the extra weight, wood is better. I've seen a lot more aluminum bats warp than I've seen treated wooden ones break.

They're both solid clubbing options, of course.

I'm still sort of considering trying to craft a kanabo over the weekend for fun.

Wouldn't furniture tacks get bent or deformed while being hit?

Something like this seems like it would work but idk how long/short the actual thing I would use as a stud would be, or what the spacing should be like that I don't weaken the wood with the studs.

>>31891389
Epoxy might be able to get into the wood and sturdy it up.

Like I watched a video and a guy made one from a 2x2 and some bolts he just screwed into it and it seemed pretty sturdy when he was hitting watermelons with it, but idk how that would translate to hitting a person or at the very least something a bit harder than a melon.

I hate to be an edgelord and I don't even really watch the show, but I feel like the barb-wire rapping on Neagan's bat in the Walking Dead might be a good idea. Sturdy, tight, easy to replace, extra damage, still get the strength of the bat, and literally don't have to nail anything down or anything. Seems like a pure upgrade.

Spikes should be staggered or alternated so as not to weaken the bat.

>>31891654

>tfw the only vendor that still sells all-metal PR-24's won't ship to canada

>>31891686
Hell, you're probably right.

All the same, barbed wire sounds great. Your point on it being taut enough I think holds up and would be more damaging to the recipient than to you.

Even if it does tangle in them, that's still more their problem if it comes off. You still have the bat.
>>
>>31890228

I'm not expecting to strike oil on the first go, but if is an easy enough process (which I think it ought to be), and I have enough fun doing it, I might try to hone it in.

The ones in the OP look a little hokey, imho.

Messy, needs strength.

Technically in modern urban condition the best you can do is own a knife or brass knuckles - both extremely deadly instruments almost guaranteed to cause death or serious bodily harm in impact, with the knife being the obviously more deadly. With knuckles though, you will incapacitate or kill the opponent if scoring a hit on their head.

A bat is thoroughly impractical and cumbersome to use.

All that is of course assuming you are willing and determined to use a weapon like this, which very few people are. Its much, much easier to kill with a gun than with a melee weapon such as a knife. Its simple psychology.

I know /k/ holds itself to be a board of cold blooded ruthless alpha males but statistically even as many as 2/3 of you are likely to freeze up in a situation that calls for a use of weapon if its your first time.

>>
>>31890286
Hickory if you can find it. Ash would be good for balance but also fragile
>>
>>31891752
It should be noted that while hardwoods are an excellent way to create a damn good club/mace one does not actually want a wood that is too hard (honest, it's possible).

I watched a few videos of people testing Bokkens (wooden swords) made out of hardwoods. surprisingly while they were definitely heavy (great for strength training), the added hardness actually made them more brittle than the standard oak blades.
>>
>>31891941
I work with it on occasion. If you live in the country it's the trees that mainly populate the rows separating fields. Shit is knotty as all hell, but because of this it's a very hard wood.
Contact a farmer or something and you might be able to get some for free. I really just suggest any kind of dense wood. Honduran Rosewood is also fun for stuff like this because it's very hard and also dense (while adding the weight of the wood itself into the swing). Adding metal studs or hollowing the center and filling with lead could result in a super heavy and dense tire thumper.
Or at least that's my drunken mind playing with ideas.

This.

The top and middle bats are actually very effective designs.

-Wooden bats are solid instead of hollow, so they weigh more than aluminum ones most of the time, and are more likely to transfer kinetic force into the target on impact rather than bounce back. Bonus points if the core is drilled out near the end and filled with sand or something.

- The tac rails both protect the shaft of the bat, keeping it from splintering or cracking on impact, as well as providing acute points of impact on the corners/edges, and friction for the bat to "stick" more on a hit than if it were smooth, but not so pointy that it will get stuck in/on a target (like spikes or nails would) instead of simply gripping on the hit and being easily retrieved

-The paracord wraps are done better on the top two bats as well, with raised spiral ridges to ensure well-spaced and static finger holds

Overall, these are great self-defense tools, easily 8/10, would bring with me in a SHTF setting.

I know, spikes make a bat more deadly, but they have to be LONG spikes to do any real damage, and the longer/thinner the spikes, the more they get stuck in a target and make the bat hard to retrieve after a swing, so you better hope your one good swing killed your target or you're fucked.

Considering that, the only way I would improve those two tac-rail bat designs is by fixing a long spike/blade into the tip of the bat so that you can also stab with it if push comes to kill.

clubs are easy enough to make, you don't need to buy one, though you will get guaranteed quality.
I suggest using a short pipe, get actual grip tape like the kind you put on bat handles, if you want some comfort and impact dampening use a small amount of reasonably thick foam under the tape, though be sure to wrap the tape all the way from under the foam to above it so the foam isn't free floating, otherwise it will fly out of your hands.
>>
>>31893669
Eh I might make one eventually but right now I don't really need one.
>>
>>31893633
yes that would perform better than the deadblow bat, the bolts would concentrate the impact energy into a smaller area making it easier to say, crush skulls. That metal also looks like steel rather than aluminum, though that may be paint, if it is steel then it will be heavier but also more durable

>putting all that extra shit on a bat

Why? Do you want it to get it caught/snagged on clothes or other fabric? Do you want to tilt the weight of a designed made for forceful swinging? I know from first hand experience a bat is already good enough.

Bats don't need anything else on them.

>>
>>31893802
well bats by design are meant to hit a free floating object moving at you at high speeds, while they do more than enough damage on their own adding weight to the top of a bat will make it impact harder when swung, also you want to minimize the impact area if you are going to be hitting someone in the head, it will crack the skull and then the bat will do the rest. (Note: aluminum bats almost need to be weighted because of how light they are)

you want like a spike on the end for piercing? assuming you use a wooden bat, make sure whatever you use as the spike can fit in the top of the bat about 4 inches down and still have an effective amount of the spike exposed, find out the size of said extra material and find a drill bit just slightly smaller and drill 4in into the center on top of the bat use a soft head hammer to hammer in the spike (careful not to split the wood, you may need to let the bat sit in a bathroom with the shower running at full heat for a bit to give the wood some give) also you want this spike shard since you are going to use it for thrusting
>>
>>31893883
Oh I like that
>>
>>31893889
too much potential for upsetting the balance. a free floating weight should actually increase the force of the swing provided you can hold onto it. Molten brass would simply adhere to the interior and create a heavier bat. it's true that heavier is good for damage, but all that weight at one end will slow you down.

>>31893920
Yes, many thanks

>>31893413
>>31893791
>>31893816

Porque no los dos?
>>
>>31893889
that would add weight but would throw off the balance. the reason something like sand works is because it a bunch of little particles that get moved to the top when you swing, on impact what happens is that the sand, still following the energy, keeps moving but it can't go any further than the inside wall of the bat so it slams into it and when this happens all those tiny little particles briefly compound together from the force creating a solid, heavy, object in the bat that carries the energy from the initial swing

mercury is liquid at room temperature so it would not be harder than aluminum in it's normal state.
if it's cold however this may become an issue. the aluminum would surely become brittle faster than the mercury would, but that would be at temperatures well below zero (on both scales).

>What about ash or cedar, I want something to smell nice while I beat them to death
Cedar weighs nothing and cracks or warps at the drop of a hat. Not clubbin' material unless you want to make a ridiculous oversized club for the intimidation factor.

Yeah, unfortunately the ATF says minimum overall length has to be 26" in line with the bore, so the handle being over 26" is irrelevant. So you can have a powerhead in spear form but not hammer form. More pointless arbitrary restrictions.
