I found this beauty for 550$ CAD. I always wanted a classic trench gun but they are hard to come by. Is it possible to convert it to a WW2 trench gun with bayonet and heat shield? Can it handle modern ammo? Is it milled steel/durable?

Can't help with much but I know for a fact they can't take 3" shells.

What shells are more common? 2 3/4" or 3"?

It is possible. The changes are the heat shield and bayonet lug. Add those to a field grade and it's essentially it.

2 3/4"
It should say on the side of the barrel by the receiver as well as it's caliber. They weren't all 12ga. 3" shells are more modern magnum loads.

Also check if there's a choke. If it says something like "mod" or "full" you don't shoot slugs.

Every single part should be wood or steel. It was very intricately milled and fitted by hand. Modern ammo is fine; they were made into the 70s. Stopped because they were rather pricey to make.

A youtube video on them should cover so much.

You can also find the year it was made in by googling the serial number ranges for model 12s.

And learn how to not be a DUMB FUCK that doesn't even have the capacity to use search engines or recognize the difference between steels and aluminum. If you can't do that follow the instructions in my pic.

2.75 inch shells are FAR more common than 3.

the heatsheild bayonet assembly will cost the same as the gun

Ok thanks for the info. Are they more durable than guns made today? Where can I find heat shield/bayonet kit for it?

I absolutely love my 1957 Model 12 given to me by my great grandfather and would take that over my 870 express any day

>Can it handle modern ammo?
Shooting steel shot in an older shotgun is not advised, especially with a tighter choke. Shoot lead or bismuth or something like the Hevi-shot "Classic Doubles" load.
>>
I forgot to mention that it's a 2 piece model (take down). I know that military issue 1897 weren't take take downs and I was wondering if it's the same thing for the model 12. Also, is it a fair price? I plan on shooting it often
