Both are going to be very similar in terms of performance. Go with whichever looks better, or whichever company makes the suppressor/s that you seem most likely to buy.

If it were me I would probably get the Brakeout because Surefire is too big of a company with far too many shills.

Looking to upgrade my milspec trigger to a geissele one and been doing some Googling the past couple of weeks. Quick question are the "enhanced" triggers like the SSA-E or SD-E too light for a general purpose rifle (bench rest shooting + defensive rifle)? The enhanced triggers have a reported pull weight of 3.5lbs while the standard versions are 4.5lbs.

I need some buffer help.
I'm building a 300b.o pistol and flashcans under rails give me a raging hard on. I understand that directing gas forward will increase recoil impulse, can I counteract that with a heavier buffer?

Should I take my upper to my gunsmith to have him install my freefloat rail and muzzle device? I was quoted a price of around $25 for this kind of thing. I do not own a torque wrench or a tool for stabilizing the upper in a vise, so the cost of those things would probably be more than the gunsmith service.

I heard that gun experts like those found on /k/ make fun of you if you take your guns to a gunsmith...

I'm going to guess you're using HSS, since that's what I typically use unless I feel like justifying how much money I spent on carbide tooling.

If I'm wrong, disregard this. If I'm right, consider investing in some carbide for your next project. I'm telling you, a near mirror surface finish is possible with a good quality cutter with inserts.

Solid carbide end mills are nice too, but too fucking temperamental. You look at them wrong and they break off in holes.
>mfw breaking off 3/8ths carbide end mill in to a piece of AR550 plate for a "science project"
In to the "art" bin it went, forever slumbering and rusting in peace. Your corner of the market lives another day, AR500 body armor producers. .

Depends on the context of "they." I have a preference for cutters with replaceable inserts because it's less fiddle farting bullshit for me.

Break the tip off an insert? Stop the mill, kill the power, replace the insert. Made in factories around the world daily.

Roast the corners off a HSS cutter? Got in a hurry and threw your speeds and feeds chart out the window? Your shop teacher isn't looking, and you've got shit to do.

Yeah, you can't fix that. Temper of the HSS is gone, and you just made a paperweight.

Inferior in every way to the 22-year-old 51T ratchet mount, will be discontinued within 6 months along with the SR-5 can for it, since the can is longer, heavier, and louder than a 7.62 SD much less the SD-N6 which is longer, heavier, and louder than a YHM Phantom which is half the price.

I'm just looking for a starting point, though, to be honest. Like, if /k/ were to say "X is a great deal for what it is and if you don't like it, there's a huge used market with minimal depreciation," then that would be as good of an endorsement as "Y is the top of the line and it also costs $2400."

How is the sight picture with the Vortex? Is the field of view wide enough, and does the 1x setting have a relatively flat field? I remember trying one of the Primary Arms 1-4x optics a while back and the 1x setting was hard to get used to due to major optical distortions.

You're not going to find a URX 3.1 for that cheap ever. I would, but dont forget it doesn't come with a barrel nut wrench, which is another 120 if you want to get a new one (get a used one)

Already have a router. That said, it's really a rotary tool that I used for miniatures when I was still into that. So I'll probably get a router too. But even the cheapest mills I saw were several thousand dollars. So I'll definitely save money in the long run.

The sight picture is nice. It's clear but without the best light transmission. I just think it's a lame scope that doesn't have enough magnification, and the 1x, while close to true 1, is no replacement for a red dot, because the eye relief can be a pain.

Also you know what else have lifetime warranties? Hi-points.

i was the one that suggested the $400 pst. i had one but sold it. i liked the glass quality, and features. its not a true 1x, theres a little bit of a fishbowl effect but it was ok for me. the illumination wasnt as bright as it could be in the daytime. i sold it because it was a little hefty (and considering i had it in a bobro mount, which didnt help weight) and i found the reticule to be a bit busy for a 1-4x scope, especially at the ranges i was shooting at.
i havent tried the PA or strike eagle, but barring those two options, i dont think youre going to find anything better (new) for $400 of less

Which Vortex?

I have experience with the Strike Eagle.
>"1x" magnification setting is around 1.1x in my scope, there is some variance within the model (1.05x-1.2x approximately)
>lighted reticle can go SUPER FUCKING BRIGHT, have never needed to take it over half brightness even in full sun
>reticle is well designed and usable at any distance inside 500m
>diopter ring could be a bit stiffer, ocular lens cap likes to change your diopter setting (I set mine then loctite it in place, which fixes it but makes it a me-only optic)
>being a Vortex, and being 30mm tube, it's pretty fucking heavy
>windage and elevation adjustment clicks are crisp and audible/tactile, mine passes the box test
Over all I'd rate the scope an 8/10. Since I get 50-60% off MSRP on Vortex products and got the scope for $120 I'd rate it an 11/10 value, and at normal retail price of $270 I'd rate it a 9/10 value.

Yup.

3point5 is great. 50% off and free shipping on Vortex currently, supposedly they're doing 60% off from Black Friday through 1 Jan again like they did last year.

10.3, 10.5 if you hate America.

11.5 is dumb, it looks awkward with any handguard length and if you're retarded enough to shoot ball or OTM through a <14.5" barrel in a defensive situation the extra literally 35fps isn't gonna do anything.
