So I realized my minuteman kit lacks a pair of boots. I know next to nothing about boots, my father gave me a set of "Vietnam jungle boots" about 20 years ago, and they have run their course. There is hardly any tread left on them at this point.
So I'm looking to get a fancy new space age pair of boots. I was eyeballing a pair of Oakley Light Assault 2's.
I also want to get some fancy new socks for my fancy new boots.
Any recommendations /k/omraden?

I was looking at these, but they are both pricey and lacking in green colour.
Boots are prob the most important aspect, so if I had to buy them, I would. I'd be interested in seeing what others on here reckon as well.

LOWA makes good shit.

I have a nice pair of spendive Jack Wolfskin hipster hiking boots but I like link related which were one third the price better.

Take your Vietnam jungle boots to a cobbler and get them repaired. Any cobbler worth their salt can repair even a "non repairable" boot.
Grind down the existing sole. Grab some foam if needed, insert that, grind it to the shape of the shoe. Grab a new vibram sole, glue and nail that on. Go kill charlies in the trees.
Your old boots are broken in. New boots for an urgent situation are a poor, poor, idea.

Bump
Garmont T8 Bifida's are comfy. Feel broke in almost instantly, and they're tough as fuck.

It took you 20 years to wear out a used pair of boots?
You don't leave your house much, do you?

Civilian boots are typically better than issued or approved boots. I liked by Vasque Breeze GTX and my Danner 453 GTX. The Vasques were more comfortable.
I guess this is a boot general, i was retarded and bought some boots 2 sizes bigger than i am (10.5) I'ma 9.5, is that ok or should i get the right size?

My jungle boots lasted only 2 years before the leather cracked and sole wore down past usefullness. They are Ro-Search, so no Chinese quality.
>>31887458
Their quality is spotty at best since they moved the majority of their mfr to Nam. Two pairs of Crafter NMTs split soles on me in the course of 8mo. Fucking shit quality.
Solomons. They used to be part of my units issued non standard boots, but we just switched to lowa
>>31887557
breaking leather is a sign of bad treatment, and for good boots it's no problem to put a new sole on. If the boot isn't worth that, it ain't a good one.

Would agree. These fuckers saved my feet in Ranger school.

What pack is that?

Truth, I got a pair on right now.
Anyone like merrell Moab's? Was thinking of getting the goretex ones since they're nearly half the price of Lowa's

I like mine, Waterproof works great and they have Vibram Soles and good support at an excellent price point.
But they last a year to max two years depending on how much you use them. And more expensive shoes are going to feel better and last longer
Just something to keep in mind
Also if you can find them on sale for around the $80 dollar price point like I did then they become even more worth it.

Hard to go wrong with Danner

I have 4E feet and Merrel is one of the few who makes a true wide that is comfortable for me.

Number size doesn't matter. What does matter is that they fit you well. Does your heel slip a lot with the socks you intend to normally wear with your boots? if so, i highly recommend you get ones that fit your size.
I just kept all the boots I had issued to me while I was in the Navy
>flight deck boots
>USMC winter boots
>USMC summer boots
Admittedly, I like the summer boots most

Standard issue Navy boots are the worst. Heavy and unforgiving on the feet, not to mention they require constant care unless you want to look like a shitbag. I really wish we were allowed to buy different brands, or it was easier to get the suede ones. Feels bad man.
I wear Whites because I'm innaPNW which means needing boots built like a tank.
>tfw the only boots I have are fuckboi Timberlands
at least they're still holding up after a Utah winter
Don't buy shitty desert boots, spend a little bit extra and get a decent pair of waterproof hikers.
Any good quality merino socks. Trust me you'll thank me later. Every few years I load up on like a 12 pack from sportsmansguide
Get some nice firefighting boots. It you didn't mind them weighing 14 lbs/boot, you wont wear them out.

That boot screams structural. Whites, Nicks, and Danners are still the better option for outdoors.

>So I realized my minuteman kit lacks a pair of boots.
Your minuteman kit doesn't need boots. But if you don't have any boots then you may as well get some and never wear them in.
I've been wearing a pair of Oakley Light Assaults at work for two years. They're still going strong. But look, here's the deal: They are just super light tennis shoes with an upper. If you want boots for combat use then here's what you need to look for:
Leather
Steel shank
Double stitching
Something you WILL wear for 30 days in a row so they are broken in before you have to use them. Otherwise your new minuteman kit will just have blister factories for your feet
Speed lacing system
Those Garmont T8's are fucking awesome, get them and wear them in.
What do you all think of clarks desert Mali boots? I have a pair and they are super kampfy
>>31892621
Don't forget to break them in.
>>31892412
Yeah had a pair Used em for station/wildland boots. Your pic will work too.
