They are what they are, a thin piece of fabric.
Do they keep your face out of the sun? Yeah.
Could you use a regular bandana for this as well?
Yeah.
That considered it's all preference. Some like them, I personally don't care for them.
>>
>>31882209
keep me warm
get hipster pussy
stolen valor
>>
>>31882209
If you aren't in the Middle East don't do it.
>>
idk if i would rather have an extra one, or an extra pair of socks. i can make footwrap/socks out of a cut up shemagh and have leftover material, but extra socks are always necessary
>>
I use mine like a scarf in the winter, it's comfy as fuck.
>>
>>31882446
Same. Best investment ever. And blends with TAZ90, nobody notices and I can wear it everywhere.
>inb4 /k/omfy
>>
>>31882209
Comfy as fuck here in Az
>>
>>31882209
As long as you have a pair of J Lo glasses to go with it.
>>
>>31882209
The ones you actually get in-country are kinda shitty desu. Really only useful in dusty environments. An actual wool scarf is better for cold weather.

That being said, i never wore one while oper8an. Shit just got in the way.
>>
>>31882209
I like them better than a baclava. On the flip flop, I also have one that is sanatized for real life. No braided ends, no pattern. Just a pile of cloth to wrap around my face. Fuck everyone who has an opinion, including me. If you want it, get it. dont be a bitch who follows the herd.
>>
>>31882209
What about smegma?

I use mine as a blind at the moment.
Keeps the sun away.
>>
Highly functional. Use it to keep my face warm, shielded from the elements, towel, or pillow. Could careless if it just adds to my hipster image.
>>
>>31882209
They work really well for what they are designed for.

Just don't do the full face wrap thing innawoods or during some sort of civil unrest

And don't where it around everywhere like a you have Asperger's.

Enjoy your comfy and useful gear item responsibly
>>
>>31882209
Cringy in many cases. Just fucking buy a neck tube ffs
>>
>>31882590
>baclava
I would hope you would like a piece of cloth to cover your face than a Mediterranean pastry
>>
>>31882209
Unless you want to wear this as a political statement, don't get a Shemagh.
Pay 5-10 bucks more for a nice wool buff.
>>
>>31882209
Warm and comfy af in cold winter finland
>>
>>31882671
>Just don't do the full face wrap thing innawoods or during some sort of civil unrest

Why not? Will the government go after you? If you hide your face?
>>
>>31882446
>>31882983

I've thought about this, but I kept reading it's too thin and it doesn't block wind
>>
Get one without any pattern unless you're goal is to actually look like you have autism. 44"x44" mininum, 52" or 60" if you can find it/are willing to make it yourself (super duper easy, I make them out of old bed sheets).
>>
>>31882812

Neck tubes are unreliable in my experience. Shemaghs are bigger and can bee used in the summer (just soak it with water) or in winter.
>>
Really useful for my line of work. I soak it in water, and it keeps my neck cool all day long under the hot sun.
>>
steaming pile of shit compared to a roman scarf.

I use mine specifically to block wind. I just fold it in half like everyone else and mine works well for me.
>>
Just got one (Hirbawi). It's just as >>31882366
says. I'm work in the elements all day every day in Wyoming. I always have a buff and bandana. I like this shemagh cause it has a larger surface area, and in my mind more cloth = more possibilities. Blanket, towel, arm sling, facewrap whatever. It's a big piece of cloth, a most basic human tool. Get one, they're only 10-25 bucks man. If you don't like it just give it to somebody else.

This.
Ausfag here, I always use mine while hunting.. have a tan one for hunting bushland and an olive one for the pine forests, summer it keeps the sun off and winter protects from icy wind.
Use innatent for a pillow.

Best thing yet, hipsters dont wear them.
>>31882812
Neck tubes are neck tubes only, shemaghs are like 1000 uses for wannabe oper8ers
>>31883007
Fold it over itself and tuck it under your jacket, pic related was me in the mountains last year hunting Sambar deer

>>
>>31882209

As an Arab I never understood this fascination LE OPERATORS XD have with shemaghs.

What's the point of one with no sandstorms? That's like getting a camel over a car.
>>
>>31882209
Becoming more and more mainstream by the day, but for some reason it gets more and more autistic at the same rate.

I have one and like it for what it is, but it is one of the few things I can actually feel retarded while wearing it.
>>
>>31885379
>implying we don't have sandstorms in TX.
>>
>>31885759
Why isn't there a clothing article native to you that you can use?
Shemaghs just look plain wrong outside their actual are of origin.
>>
I have one my sister bought me. She probably paid way too much for it. I keep it in my truck and do use it on occasion but I always feel a little weird about it. I don't think anyone cares but I only wear it when I don't expect to see anyone.
>>
>>31882812
Motorcyclist call them gators. Most motorcycle shops have them. They are very useful. I made a longer gator out of swimsuit metierial. Maybe 4 feet long and it seems to hold air alright and it drys off super fast.
>>
>>31882371
A surprisingly succinct summary.
>>
>>31882371
>Stolen valor
It's a fucking scarf
>>
>>31882209
No one wears them shemaghs in any M.E. conflict areas OP. If you do then you're easily identifiable as a non-local. Locals instead use a folded wrapped around T-shirt over their face and it's much more functional and pragmatic.

A Desert-clay-camo patterned Niqab or Burkah is highly feared in the region. Even ISIS fighters fear Burkah-wearers. It's got awesome properties like:
» Weapon & gear concealment
» Protection from harsh winds & heat
» Ease of blending with the local population
» Ready supply source for emergency bandage & torniquet
» Tactical camouflage

Burkah > Shemaghs OP.

So fear the Burkah.

Is the size an issue at all? I know asians love wearing the smaller ones designed strictly for fashion scarves.
>>
>>31888184
Not really I love mine because it actually keeps me warm here in the south eastern part of the USA. I don't wear it for fashion, I wear it because it's useful and you don't ever know when shit is going to hit the fan. Also get the actual square ones. They are the best because they are dunecoon approved.

As far as Asians go, it must suck having a small pecker.
>>
>>31883007
You heard lies. I have one that's solid black and one that has AKs on it, wear them both innarange, innawoods and innatown, perfect for cold and windy weathers. Just fold once into a shape of triangle and you're set.
>>
>>31883007
I have used mine in -38 celsius and it blocked the wind just fine.

More useful in a gunner hatch for dust/wind/sun protection. Never used it while dismounted
>>
>>31888839
Heh then they can stop using aks jeans, sunglasses, cell phones, and refined oil products. Back to being salt mongers

There's many uses for it. Dust storms and the sun exist in other places too. Good for generic blowing dust and such as well.

>not stapling tools and cardboard in front of your window to block light
It's like you don't even NEET.
>>
>>31882446
Holy shit me Too!

They also work to keep bugs off the back of your neck in the summer and as a medic, the make great improvised sling and swathes
>>
>>31885772
>can't tellive if SJW or pol

Ps they do exist they're called bandana. No not the tiny fucking handkerchief thing you're probably used to
>>
>>31885772
>Arabs invented and patented square pieces of cloth
>>
I usually wear mine innawoods. They're great during both winter and summer, though I wouldn't wear it around town. The flecktarn jacket I sometimes wear is autistic enough for me.
>>
>>31883389
HURR DURR a light cotton sheet designed for hot desert environments doesn't do as well in cold and wet europe as a wool scarf designed for cold and wet SHEMAGH FAGS BTFO LOL
>>
>>31889051
I wear min in the winter and it does just finie. Keeps the heat inside the jacket without getting scraggly and rough like a wool scarf
>>
Traditional clothing from almost all cultures includes some form of neck garment, often with a more inner layer made from linen or cotton and an outer layer from wool when cold. I've usually found a shemagh to be somewhere between bulky (compared to a buff or something) and simply unnecessary what with modern elastic collars and hoods, but that's for temperate climates.
>>
>>31885379
Don't be a sand nigger.

The Middle East isn't the only place with dust
>>
>>31882934
Id rather have some baclava
>hungrygreek.jpg
>>
>>31889087
So do I. I feel like I get a better "seal" than with a neck tube or regular scarf
>>
>>31882209
breddy gud

they keep you warm and you can configure them in many ways.
they're pretty versatile and they can look 'stylish'
plus they come in handy if you need to gibe someone a tactical rat tail to the face
