buying my first gun today.
would you guys recommend going with a .22 or should i go straight to a 5.56/.223? a friend offered to sell me a .22 mp5, but i saw an ar at a shop yesterday that is 5.56/.223. my question is should i go with a .22 for my first gun? or should i go with the larger caliber right off the bat? my concern is stopping power. is a .22 enough to get the job done? i figure with the lesser recoil, i could get enough shots off quickly enough to take care of business, but i wanted to get /k/'s advice. it will be used primarily for home defense and going to the range.

Better finish
Build quality is a bit better
Comes with rear magpul sight vs Ruger brand sight.

All for the same price.

The AR556 isn't a bad gun, but the M&P-15 is just better.

The only other magpul mags I have are FDE, which are shitty for dying. I have no real care to go out of my way to get sand color mags, as now I'm flooded with magazines, but was just wondering.

Use mineral spirits, it will cut through that shit like a Hillary lie. Do not use acetone anything with acetone in it. Let it soak awhile then go at it with a brush. I'd tell you to disassemble the stock first for better results but I know how lazy and inept you are, and I can't imagine what kind of damage you would do with a spring pin punch and a hammer. Not that you own either of those tools. Or any tools at all.

Did you get your grease yet?

>>31871294
If you're asking what I think you're asking then the answer is that you can't dye anything on Earth a lighter color than it is, and you can't bleach plastic. Paint is the only option, but just like everything in these threads that's painted, especially pb's and giddy's rifles, it's going to look like shit.

There's nothing wrong with black. Black is superior color for everything. Black is strong. Dye your tan ones black.

>I have both those tools
I'm staggered.

You'll need something to brace the locking pin collet against when you bash the spring pin out of it. I have a small pistol block I use but you could use a chunk of wood. Be careful when you thwack, the locking pin wants to rotate. Once you get the spring pin out, the collet threads off the locking pin and you can remove the lever, spring and locking pin for better cleaning.

I'm going to send another round of grease out, I'll send you one.

anyone here own a S&W M&P 15?

where does your brass go?

forward to 1-3 o'clock?

3-4 o'clock?

4-6 o'clock?

mine go to 1-3 o'clock shooting m855.

supposedly all S&W ar15s are 5.56 rifles. though they gas port in the barrel is slightly bigger. so that .223 win can reliably cycle.which overgas the rifles.

.223win is less pressure than 5.56NATO

you can shoot .223 in a 5.56 rifle but not 5.56 in a .223 rifle.

S&W and some other AR makers oversize the gas ports so .223win sends enough gas to work to the action designed for a 5.56 pressure.

Your iron sights and/or optics are mounted to the upper receiver, to which your barrel is also mounted, so no amount of wobble between upper and lower receivers can affect your accuracy.

I'm new to funs, so I have some stupid questions.

I'm building an ar-15, using a PSA kit. I'm looking into buying 5.56 for it, but I have some questions.

Does brand matter for ammo, or should I just buy whatever is cheap? What are some good places to buy bulk (500+) ammo?

stuck barrel nut?

i had to use a fuckign dremel to cut mine off.

stressful as shit as i was nervous i would cut the threads and destroy up whole AR upper.

also if you put real torque on those polymer blocks you run the risk of cracking your uppper.

best to use an action rod, but i know you wont listen nigger

not really but i would stay clear of tulammo. buy a few brands and see what does best in your gun

>should I just buy whatever is cheap
no

>What are some good places to buy bulk (500+) ammo?

Brand matters only insofar as cleanliness when shooting and accuracy expected. Cheap ammo will be dirty and not very accurate. Accuracy comes from consistency of the load and components of a completed cartridge. Cheap ammo is inconsistent.

Bulk ammo is generally sold in 1000 round cases or lots. SGAmmo, PSA, Aim Surplus, Sportsman's Guide and Ammunition To Go have decent pricing some of the time, among others. Use GunBot to find the cheapest price per round, but be wary of high shipping and disreputable nobodies.

I would recommend you stick to brass case ammo for now, like Wolf Gold, PMC Bronze or American Eagle. It's cheap but still halfway decent blaster. Avoid Brown Bear, Silver Bear, Herter's and Tulammo. Wolf steel case is okay but dirty and slow.

AVOID RELOADS AND "REMANUFACTURED."

You didn't whale hard enough. There's no risk of cracking the upper, the block would crack first. You can mark the upper if you don't use cellophane or paper between the block and receiver though.

Fuck no I won't listen about a $100 con job for snake-oil drinking Big-G suckers. The action rod braces against the barrel extension, but the barrel nut threads onto the receiver, not the barrel. This means that the only thing stopping the receiver from turning is the notch in the receiver threads. You're dumping up to 80 foot pounds of monkey force into a tiny pin, rather than spreading that force out over the entire receiver.

It's a dumb product for idiots.

I've had good luck with PMC and American Eagle. Haven't tried IMI.

you're wrong, you can crack the aluminum upper under tension from the vice its too thin.

but do what you want. i hope your shit cracks and you think back to this thread.

also youre autistic as fuck, the barrel is steel, the reciever is aluminum, that aluminum cracks you fuck tard.

the action rods mate steel to steel instead of the steel vice to the aluminum reciever.

get the fuck out of this thread.

you won't be able to shoot steel case at an in-door range. bulk ammo you should buy from freedom munitions or sgammo (both online stores).
