They were pretty good at keeping it to themselves and I wouldn't have ever known if I hadn't seen them drunk during a Port Call and heard some of their less than flattering candid comments about some of the Black Sailors/Marines.

Point was, they knew they didn't have like everyone so long as they still did what they were told and kept it to themselves.

Pretty much every old man you meet is racist as fuck on the inside, no matter the color.

There is no finer racism that goes on in the Infantry. My best friend was Hispanic, my first non-white friend. I'd call him a lousy spic, he'd call me a peckerwood, and it was all laughs.

Blacks were the same when you were actually in the shit, I'd cover his black ass, and he'd do the same. Once were civies again I don't want my daughter hanging out with his son, and vice versa.

Free college after a few years, training in a trade, GOAT tier Healthcare coverage, and a couple extra years to gain a great work ethic make the military a no brainer for people who would otherwise be relegated to a Nihilistic wageslaving existance.

Officers tend to be from the middle class and range in reasons from legitimately wanting to serve, to not having a job after college.
