Using the front sight isn't exactly uncommon. It allows the rifle to hang much more naturally than the sling attachment under the front sight.

Blueforcegear makes their U-Loop specifically for this

I have one. its REALLY comfy. the beavertail gets rid of the bite on your hand. also it gives it a better mag release. Mags drop free now too.
