To begin, I'm not new to the subject. I know with the election closing in, everybody and their mothers is starting to "prep". I've been doing it for about 2 years (though I'm only 22 and have been budgeting with the limit that is minimum wage).
Just making this thread as an attempt at a general, where peppers can discuss whatever they want.
>what are you prepping for
>how far along are you
>how has it impacted your life
>what are you focusing on hoarding/buying these days
>are you bugging out (for city dwellers) or staying in (rurals)

Hope this thread works out.

Natural Disaster (most likely, keep blankets, some canned food, matches, etc. handy)

Nuclear accident at the nearby plant (Not very likely, but a gas mask and Geiger counter would be nice)

Terrorist insurgency/Civil war
Highly unlikely, but it's every American's duty to be ready for one.

I'm prepped for a Katrina-type natural disaster. A couple months of food and a month of water, plus filtration. In case of fallout I can shelter in place for a month, I think. I have enough tarps and mylar to seal in the living spaces, but no geiger counter or dose thingy or anything like that.

Next on my list is some sort of toilet system. Maybe just a bunch of 5-gal buckets that I can seal off as I fill them up.

I've never worried about a post-apocalyptic scenario, because in all likelihood I will be dead and if not there will be plenty of other people's stuff lying around.
>>
>>31862739
>Maybe just a bunch of 5-gal buckets that I can seal off as I fill them up.

Bucket with trash bag liner. Another bucket with sawdust or fireplace ashes nearby. Crap in bucket, cover with a couple of scoops of sawdust or ashes. Replace lid. Bag gets close to full, tie shut and move to interim storage area.

When you can dispose of bags, wear a respirator with organic vapor cartridges. Dig a hole, slice bags with a razor, dump in hole. Bury. In 3 years, all that will remain is the plastic.

Btw, this is if you can't dig a latrine pit in the first place. It doesn't take much effort to put up a rudimentary outhouse. You still want to put ashes or sawdust in there occasionally, though.

In Chiraq the biggest threat to life and limb and property is some kinda "Civil Unrest" a la L.A. Riots. There's also weather events like blizzards but eh.
>>how far along are you
Well I've devised a plan to get all my nearby relatives evac'd to the nearest safehouse i.e. mine, planned how to barricade and setup defenses, devised a schedule for who is on guard, I've taken stock of our supplies and got a general list of what my family is to bring with, as well as specifics related to each family member (My cousin's acoustic guitar, for example.) Additionally, we've always got plenty of boxed and canned food around, and assuming the power stays on we've got a freezer full of deer meat and other stuff, that'll hold us out for a while combined with supplies from all my family members. We (I) have got body armor, gas masks and filters, dog kibble, and various other knickknacks.
>>how has it impacted your life
I try not to let it get to me, but I found myself poking around my aunt's house to take stock of their supplies. She found my checklist and assumed it was a checklist for hunting season. I let her keep believing it, no need to worry her yet.
>>what are you focusing on hoarding/buying these days
Ammunition, I just went on a Bass Pro run and got ~$100 worth of various ammo. Next will be plywood and nails.
>>are you bugging out (for city dwellers) or staying in (rurals)
Bugging in is the best course of action, roads and expressways here are shit to begin with, add on rioters and people trying to leave, I'm better staying in, only leaving to escort my family here. The only problem I foresee is sleeping arrangements, but 2 beds, a futon, couch and air mattresses I think we'll make do.

I've thought about that.
>Northeast megalopolis
>50 Million people
>Less than 2% of US land mass.
That area would be a blood bath for reals in a "SHTF" or "WROL" situation. There would be no redemption of the area. People would sprawl out as soon as food ran out and all the farmers in the area would have to be ready for that number of people or leave.

The real question about the Northeast is how sustainable is the area without support from the surrounding areas? Not. Most of those 50 million have no applicable skills. It would be devastating.

Can anyone recommend a good bag? I have a lot of supplies ready for a go bag but they just sit on a shelf and i wouldnt be able to move them out fast if I needed to.
So what bags do you guys use? Im looking for something not too expensive but big and durable enough to last in a SHTF situation.
I almost bought a nice cheap one at a gun show last year but stopped at the last second because i noticed that the hooks holding all the straps were made out of cheapo ass metal that looked like it would snap after any abuse

"Diverse" countries have always failed throughout history and ethnic divide/warfare is inevitable in America (think Balkan wars after U.S.S.R. fell). White people are on the shit list bc government will focus its energy against the largest threat to its power (white demographic).
If you live in a city you're fucked.
If you aren't black and live in the south around the black belt you're fucked.
If you aren't hispanic and live in Southwest/Texas you're especially fucked.
Gangs will become militias bc of their already existing organization and military power and will rule the cities and become deeply tied to politics
Basically its a giant shit show bc no country in history has tried to be this diverse/multicultural in such great numbers (since it always fails)
Find a safe space and bring your guns and friends with guns

>> What are you prepping for

I decided that given my situation and the local geography, being prepared for a 30 day loss of power/water/ability to buy goods was all i can do. Either civil unrest will end in that period of time or I will know within a week or two that I need to move to a location where civilization still exists. My rent house is close to the sheriff's station and a hardware store i used to work at. There's also a feed mill down the street. I have a 6000 gallon swimming pool in the back yard that could act as a clean water source after being treated correctly. We have natural gas. In theory we could live off grain after the dried MREs and canned food are gone. I have access to all the tools and a generator if needed. Security is the biggest threat in the short term, but i have hundreds of rounds of ammo for my rifle and handgun.

Its pretty hard to justify a full prep. You need a fsmily sized farm and the skills and tools to live 100% off grid to really call yourself preped

EMPs are a fucking nightmare, there's not a single country in the world capable of dealing with this threat. Best case scenario is the affected area gets sent back in time to 1910, worst case scenario is that the ensuing chaos completely obliterates whatever sense of territorial, institutional and societal cohesion such area had.

I am prepping for natural disaster mainly. I have guns and ammo covered and have begun focusing on food/water at the moment.

I think i have about 5 gallons of purified water in jugs, 3 24 packs of bottled water, and a 6 gallon water container for sanitation. I also bought a sawyer squeeze and a sawyer mini. Also picked up some water purification tabs and 2 gallons of bleach.

I have about a weeks worth of canned goods, mainly chili, pork and beans, cambells soups, vienna sausages, chef boy ar Dee's, tuna, and chunks of chicken.

I have most major camping gear you would need including a super sweet camping portapotty.

Now im starting to address my lack of battle ready gear. I took the plunge and bought a plate carrier but lack everything else including plates, mag pouches, everything. Now I'm looking at finding a type 56 chest rig and belt i can hang a few pouches off and a holster.

Ohh yeah, i also need a radio anf have been reading up on the baofeng everyone else has.

What i miss?

>>
>>31864375
I seem to recall that he has, can't remember the gist of it.

I've browsed through the EMP Commission report, and some other (iirc, military test documents), the findings are all over the map. Now there's a new EMP Commission report for 2016 that looks pretty gloomy.

What I've gleaned from the various sources is that the grid is our vulnerable point. As I understand it, an EMP won't do much to anything electronic that's smaller than about a 2-1/2 yards. Cars and trucks will restart, etc.

Things like the grid and commercial radio station antennae, etc., will be fucked. I'm not sure about anything plugged into the grid. If it's plugged in and turned on, it's probably toast. Plugged in, turned off, I suspect will survive. Anything protected from lightning should be fine.

The grid in the affected area will crash hard. Figure 1 detonation will take down 1/4 to 1/3 of CONUS. We'll be a while recovering from that.

The appropriate prep for this is a deep pantry- 18 to 24 months of regular foodstuffs. You also want to have a seedbank, 1/3 of which gets replaced annually.

Be able to access water, and know how to filter, purify, and distill water from any source.

Know your neighbors, know what they're likely to be able to bring to the table. It'll take a community to pull through this shit.

"This war differs from other wars, in this particular. We are not fighting armies but a hostile people, and must make old and young, rich and poor, feel the hard hand of war."

"War is cruelty. There is no use trying to reform it. The crueler it is, the sooner it will be over."

"My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom."

"I would make this war as severe as possible, and show no symptoms of tiring till the South begs for mercy."

"I intend to make Georgia howl."

None of it is voodoo or rocket science. Every time you change a flat, or light a bbq, or change the oil in your lawn mower, you're reinforcing skills and adding another couple of datapoints to your knowledge bank.

A lot of what you learn from mundane daily tasks is what you'll use when shit goes south. It's not all about who can operate the hardest with the biggest beard, it's also about who can fix the generator to keep the freezer running.

on this note, what usually goes wrong with generators is they occasionally de-energize. all you need to do to flash the field and fix it is run wires from the output to any battery, 9v is easiest, for a few seconds while it's not running.

that's also how you get $300 generators for $20 at garage sales.
