Who's drinking on this Halloween day? Or if you're in a part of the world where it's recently come to pass, how was it for you? Though then again if you're that far east, you might not celebrate it. Just had about 210ml (7oz) of Cpt. Morgan's Dark in 9 minutes. I'm starting things off with a bang.

Also, general bolt actions thread. Fuck it, general WWI/WWII firearms bread. This is about as good a social life as I can manage at present.
>>
>>31862262
So /k/ is a bunch of fuckin' teetotalers, or what? Shameless self bump. Though I guess for most of North America it's a bit 'too early to drink'. I've heard of this theory before, but I don't give it too much value or heed. Another 2oz shot.
>>
>>31862262
>wooo I'm drinking! XD
Get out of your parents' liquor, anon.
>>
>>31862488
It's my own liquor anon. I just want some fellow drunkards to enjoy it with. That's all. I've had yet a 10th ounce.

What's you're favourite firearm from the first half of the 20th century? Rifle? SMG? Assault rifle? Perhaps comes with a pistol? How much ammo would you ideally carry? I'm drinking alone, but I don't want to drink COMPLETELY alone, y'know?
>>
>>31862566
Not him, but my favorite gun period is the AR-18. I managed to get my hands on one for $1,000 a couple years back.
>>
>>31862582
I keep hearing amazing things about the AR-18. I recall the angled magwell, I think. What makes it superior to the AR-15, if it is indeed such. Does it have a short-stroke gas piston, or is it still direct-impingement like that one Swiss semi-auto from WWII? AG-42B, I think the final version was called. The one with the nubs. The original AG-42 merely had two sections that were serrated, but did not give a good enough purchase to properly work the action.
>>
>>31862607
It uses a short-stroke gas piston.

Got a big bowl of candy, pumpkins carved and ready, and drinking a Leine's Cranberry Ginger Shandy while I whip up a Scotcharoo pie for dessert tonight.
>general bolt actions thread.
>WWII firearms bread.
I knew I took this pic for a reason.
>>
I would, and have been invited out, but i have chemo tomorrow so I'll be skipping this year.
>>
>>31862620
Nice, I prefer that over direct impingement, but it's obvious that DI can be, as it would seem, just as reliable. Also seems to lend to a lighter weight, but still, I'm old fashioned, I prefer there to be a piston.

>>31862668
Gorgeous. Them Arshens sights tho... but that front sight. With that front sight I was tempted to assume it was Finn, but that rear sight screams pre-Metric. Learn me what that rifle is.

The Mosin on the ground is an original "3-line Rifle" M1891, I assume? It looks longer, or maybe it's just my drunkenness starting to affect my eyesight. Cheers!

>>31862679
Good luck with your chemo. The best I can advise is to track down a dealer, and get stoned. If you can get hemp oil, even better. I'm no doctor though, obviously, so feel free to ignore the advice if you disagree.
>>
>>31862754
Haha, I'd do that too they're not really sure it's work with my type of cancer so they're going with what has been shown to work
>>
So what's the word on Ex-Dragoon Mosin Nagants?
>>
>>31862488
Be nice, anon is drinking alone while wanting to talk about guns.

Fuck it I guess I'll drink some. I'm lurking the STALKER thread and thinking about where to go and what I would bring.

Went to cabelas today and bought some .308 and .38 special.

Also, boru a shit. I was hoping the Irish would know how to make vodka but they don't.

Irish are good at Whiskey though

>Learn me what that rifle is.
Rifle on the pumpkins is a Finnish Model 1927 made at Army Arms Depot #1 in Helsinki using a barrel made by Tikkakoski Oy. The M91 is a Finn-captured and rebuilt 1920 Tula.
>Them Arshens sights
The proper name for the curved spitzer rear sight adopted in 1908 is the "Konovalov" rear sight. The one on the m/27 has been re-number in meters.
>>
>>31862833
I had a bottle of Irish whiskey in my hand but I put it down because I remembered I wanted to try boru. Now I could go for some whiskey but I only have this shitty vodka, beer, and some expensive rye that I'm saving to drink with my friend.
>>
>>31862776
Fair enough, well good luck all the same.

>>31862808
Thank you. I do find that drinking makes me desire firearms. Back when I had them, I found they often made their way out of their safes while drunk (though without ammo) and when I was stoned I more preferred movies or videogames as entertainment.

>>31862820
Irish vodka?! Well, chalk that up as another thing to put on my bucket list. Slanche. I was actually playing STALKER just a bit earlier, but I'm on a shitty 7 year old laptop. Touchpad makes for shit-tier FPS gaming. Oh, having read the last of your comment I see you don't like it. Still, I'd like to try it for myself. Tried cucumber vodka before and THAT was fucking God awful.
>>31862833
Word.
>>31862858
Jesus, that's way too many details for me to memorize while drinking this much. Still, the information is fascinating. Cheers! Konalov renumbered in meters... I'll try to remember at least that much. The rum is going down rather smoothly, however. 11oz drank, and my first one was less than 100 minutes ago.

Gorgeous, but I'm not gonna lie, the fact it never had clips used Militarily, and the fact I've never seen them sold locally, I put it above the M1886 Lebel... but not all that far above. I'd MUCH rather a Mk.III or Mk.III* Lee Enfield, however that's a decade or more older than the Krag. Mk.III* is 1915, but that's just a simplified version of the Mk.III which as I recall was 1907?

Now THERE'S a beauty! Mk.III*! In my opinion, the best standard issue bolt action available before 1941... though the No.4 was designed 1939 as I recall.

>>31862998
I'd love to learn more of that specimin. Cock on close? Cock on open? 5 round capacity or does it contain higher? The bolt seems ingeniously positioned near the trigger so you can fire without letting go of said bolt which increases the rate of fire by quite a margin. Long radius sights, lovely, though I can't tell if they're aperture of not but no big deal I suppose unless you've got bad eyesight. The French did well by this design, it would seem.

>>31863007
A classic, to be sure. Even if it's not my most favourite of designs.

>>31863008
I'm afraid I know sweet fuck-all about dragoon or ex-dragoon Mosins. Wish I could help.

>>31863053
M1886... for about 2 years, it was THE most advanced design on the PLANET. Then the Lee Metford and M1888 Commission Rifle came out in 1888. Schmidt-Reuben was 1889 as I recall. Of course the 3 line Rifle Mosin (or just M1891 as I call it) was 1891. The legendary Mosin rifle as we know it wasn't until MUCH later in 1898, though I wouldn't call it the pinnacle of bolt action designs. If you want magnum cartridges though, then in that case, I perhaps WOULD call it the pinnacle of designs.

There something wrong with that? Drinking 'culture' is cancerous, it's a gym night, I have work tomorrow and I only drink on rare, special occasions; of which the 31st of October is not one. Are you one of these people who think that's makes me a 'fuckin' queer' or some shit?

Those bastards are heavy as fuck. Something like 14-16lb as I recall, and the .338 Lapua Magnum model's ammo is generally around 10 rounds per pound, very comparable with 12 Gauge. Roughly twice the weight it 7.62 Nato.

i quit drinking literally today because i think its making me retarded. i do my best to repair alcohol damage, always throw up extra alcohol before i go to bed, always eat fuckton of eggs to clear liver faster, drink lots of coffee, lots of b1 from beef and nuts and shit. im pretty sure being a fat drunk is making me retarded. i used to be like a maverick of intelligence. im not sure if its from alcohol or the nihilistic worldview i have had since childhood but more and more i just sink into an unsuccessful thoughtless life of cheap pleasure and escapism.

hopefully ill make it like 6 months and can go back to occasionally drinking like a distinguished gentleman and not be retarded anymore.

Coffee also dries you out, just like alcohol. If you wake up with a hang over, you need WATER. Coffee would only make it worse. You'll be a bit more alert/awake, but it won't do anything to help the problem.

All the Mauser variants from 1889-1898 were cock-on-close.

Mauser question. I'm looking to get my paws on a quality mauser variant, although realistically I know that this basically limits me to an M48 without breaking the bank, so:

1. M48 any good? Better alternative that isn't ultra-rare K98?

2. 8mm mauser availability. I have a K31 and I fucking love that rifle, but its ammo type will always be a huge limiting factor. How does 8mm fare?

For awhile I tried looking at .308 or .30-06 Mausers (e.g. Spain, Colombia and the 1903) but for various reasons none of that really seemed super practical. In the case of Spain and Colombia, safety and quality reasons. 1903s are typically pretty fucking expensive.

Any advice appreciated.

8mm mauser isn't really rare ammo, but it isn't cheap.
M48s have a good reputation, I've got one and it's pretty nice. (though I haven't shot it yet, since all I have is corrosive ammo and I just haven't had a chance yet.)
If your in GA if be willing to sell it to you if you'd like.

Because that's what the German Army wanted. The Mauser 1871 and 71/84s were cock-on-opening.

>>31870086
>1. M48 any good? Better alternative that isn't ultra-rare K98?
M48s are fine starter Mausers. Kar.98k are not rare (15,000,000 made from 1934-1945), but expensive.
