You know what this is.

When will 7.62x54r be back to the good old days if ever? Where is a cheap place to get it in medium amounts.
Thanks boyos.

Maybe when the shit fest in the Middle East dies down. It's surplus, it's the nature of the beast, should have bought it when it was available.
>>
>>31860700
It will never go down in price. Spam can surplus is drying up and new manufacture ammo is the same price as 7,62x51. Coupled with the price of the "legendary" mosin nagant being on average over $300, it is no longer the cheap to shoot bargain cartridge it was a decade ago.

I feel sorry if you bought a x54r vepr though
>>
>when will prices for a finite, appreciating consumable be lower than they are now
never
>>
>>31860719
>I feel sorry if you bought a x54r vepr though

Exactly why i bought a Vepr in .308. The gun was cheaper, 20 round double stack mags and ammo is the same price lol suck it x54r fags
>>
>>31860747

>>

Also a quick question:
What red dot scopes are reasonably cheap but will still work (handle the recoil) on a 357 revolver?

Mossberg 500 or Remington 870

My parents didnt want me to buy a gun because they wanted me to save my money. Dad is jot anti gun. Mom is anti me owning a gun. So i bought a gun. I am in college now and live about 2 hours away from them now but in dorm so i cant keep it with me. They dont know i own it. Bro knows about it, how to use it, how to be safe with it. A few of my friends have told me that i am being irresponsible leaving a gun there without my parents knowledge of it. Parents think what is in the gun bag is an airsoft gun. My friends think that my dad will go to use it or something and shoot someont thinking its airsoft. But he knows the difference between a fucking 5.56 and a bb. So does mom. Both are very educated people. Also none of them airsoft. Or even go in my room. Am i really irresponsible. Sorry for long ass post.
>>

>>
>>31860954
If your parents are as smart as you say they are, they probably already know it's not an airsoft gun. At the very least they should suspect it's a real gun.
>>
>>31860719
I still see spam cans for 140.
I see Tula ammo 7.62x54r for 11.00 bucks and ppu brass for 14.14 that's still cheaper than any 308 I have seen

>>31860983

Sure, I can ID an AR or an AK or a HK 91 clone no problem, but I see people calling out things like Finnish Mauser clones when most turn of the century military bolt actions all look the same.

Bruh she didn't look, act, smell, or sound (other than moaning) like a man, and I wasn't about to get my dick sucked if I called her "him," so she and her it is. Also the way everything was feminine on her, it would have been more work to call her a him on purpose anyway, so fuck it, if they manage to look like a female, they have earned the she and her

As far as being gay goes, i know it isnt completely straight, but fuck it, i'll claim to be bi if it means I get to fuck traps guilt free

>>
>>31861538
Get fucked faggot. Like i said you will have to endure more mental gymnastics to justify calling someone who is obviously a cute girl "him" than just treating her the way she presents herself (and quite well i might add)

I dont care what you call it, or what he calls it, your both gay. if he actually loses the dick, your still both gay. its 2016, you need to get over it and just be faggots together.

Do you really want a relationship vased on denial and justification? Just admit that it it what it is. If you are cool with fucking a male human go with it. If you are not, either get that way or stop doing it. Don't just pretend he is really a girl and hope that your cognative dissonance magically goes away.

There is andifference between being gay, i.e. a man who prefers romantic and sexual partners who are also men, being bisexual, i.e. being a person who enjoys romantic and sexual partners of both sexes, and being a transsexual, i.e. a person who was born male and wants to be a female or vise versa. Transsexualism is not inherently attached to partner preference since it concerns the self and not preferences in choosing partners. A key part of someone being a transsexual is their experiencing gender dysphoria, a diagnosable mental disorder for which the best treatment available to us is transition. Gay men are happy with being men, trans women are not, which is why they spend thousands of dollars on treatment for their mental disorder.

Why are there never any rimfire / 10/22 threads? Why does everyone get a nugget for their first rifle?

In my experience, everyone who grows up with firearms starts out shooting .22s and 410s and after learning core skill sets moves on from there. Not to mention, it can be an incredibly entertaining experience, and not worrying about over-penetration is a benefit in itself.

Also, what is with all of the weird slavic worship, sometimes expressed through anime?

7.62 is the slug diameter (hopefully), x39 or x54 are the case length in mm. I got two quick questions that involve a mosin.

1-Earlier, me and a buddy were shooting. I shot a 5 round stripper clip, then he did. We weren't counting our shots, just shooting till it clicked.

He finished his stripper clip and a few min later I loaded another up for me. I sent the bolt forward and heard a 22 sounding pop. I looked down and a small amount of smoke came out of the chamber.

I guess his last shot was a light primer strike, and the bolt didn't extract the cartridge. But when I sent a fresh cartridge into the chamber, it struck the primer hard enough to set it off. The odd thing is that while the primer went off, it didn't ignite the powder.

I guess my question is, is it usual for primers to go off, but not powder.

2-Does Tula 54r cause your mosins bolt to stick? We shot 20 Tula rounds, and about 20 surplus rounds. About 16-17 of the Tula's required us to smack the bolt free, the surplus was smooth like butter.
>>

You need to grow up and become a responsible adult, and to learn to say "no" to your parents. It's their fault that they didn't teach you to do that, but it's now up to you to correct it.

And if you violate dorm rules about not having guns on campus, you're a dickhead setting yourself for a disaster when (not if) it comes out. Grow up and store it at local gun range for a nominal price.

Gonna take it back and trade it for another one next time I'm in town.
>>
>>31862097
Depending on your barrel you might have to modify your AK. x54 has more space for powder when you need a more powerful round. x39 ballistics only offer an effective range to ~300 yards, but with considerable (9-10") drop. x54 was developed for longer rifles (see Mosin Nagant) to offer competitive ballistics to German cartridges. This modification is best performed by a gunsmith, call around for the best pricing.

tldr; if you're willing to spend the extra $200 it offers dual cartridge capability (which NATO enjoys with the ARs 5.56/.223 capability) and expands the usefulness of the rifle. AKs used to be cheap, so nobody took them seriously, but it's 2016 and it's harder to afford an exclusive x39 and an exclusive x54, just like nobody gets an AR in exclusive .223

>>
>>31861588
Thats wrong and denies basic economic principles. If theres a huge surplus of a product being sold by multiple companies the price will be set where supply meets demand. If supply is limited you raise the price until you can make the most off of each unit but low enough that people will still buy. If supply is extremely high for the foreseeable future then you lower the price to move more product.

When 54r is being imported again (could be a long time) theres no reason to believe the price wont go back down. In the meantime, if demand really is that high, a domestic manufacturer will eventually increase production as the price rises and it becomes more profitable

Probably (I mean, shit like tomahawks are allowed, as I understand it), but if you're thinking of their dress sabres, those aren't really made to stand up to any sort of real use. pretty much this.

most of nugget ammo was coming from all over in Eastern Europe, mostly Ukraine...
Now the fascist Ukrainian regime is too busy machine gunning their own people into obedience...

Russia is too busy sending its surplus ammo to Syria these days...

the sad truth is that we wont ever see $69 or even $99 - 440 round spam cans of nugget food in America, ever again.
>>
>>31865683
Is $280 too much for a decent piece? On reexamination the barrel really is fine, not pristine, but definitely good, and everything else is great. I see other M44s of questionable condition selling for well over $300, but I've been here long enough that anything more than $80 feels like a rip-off if I can't get somebody other than the salesman to tell me it isn't.

True, still, their house their rules. If you find it unfair you should find your own place. I'm in a similar situation at the moment, have guns, live at home. Trying to save up some cash and move out soon so I won't be shooting or playing with my funs while the 'rents are home. I don't know if they'd want the guns gone, but I'm choosing not to bring it up or talk about them. When I have my own place I'll leave my guns where I damn well please and anyone who is against that can get the fuck off my property.

Question for the thread:

I already have several guns, but I still for some reason have not picked up an "intermediate rifle" aka AR, AK, etc...

I already know what I want as far as gun/setup, but my question is this:

Do I buy everything I can right now before the shitshow of an election and end up with a 7/10 (in my eyes) setup?

Or

Wait until tax season so I can take a portion of that money, a portion of my Christmas bonus, anniversary bonus, and regular savings to purchase my "10/10 setup;" everything I actually want, not settling.

My fear (or hope if you look at it a different way) is that absolutely nothing will change within the next year as far as gun laws go- so if I settle on my purchase and go with (for the sake of example) an $800 gun instead of the $1500 gun, I'll be kicking myself for going cheap(er) instead of waiting.
On the other hand, if I wait and shit gets banned I'm pretty much stuck with the guns I already have or have to pay out the ass.

tl;dr: Should I play into the panic and buy now, even though I wouldn't end up with my "optimal" setup, or wait until next year for more money to become available, only to possibly be cucked by a Hillary presidency/AWB?

Is it normal to see fags wearing their rigs to public ranges? Like I'm sure they get strange looks, but people at least understand why they're doing it, right?

I wanna wear mine while shooting to get comfy, not to practice drills. I'm fine with people thinking I'm a sperg, but I don't want people thinking I shouldn't be there.

Take a safety course where they let you handle firearms. They will teach you how to not shoot yourself, how to load it using inert ammunition and other stuff.

Maybe at outdoor ranges/public land. If you show up at some indoor range with full carrier and shit, you'll probably get looked at like you're a retard. I still don't think you'd get kicked out or anything.

Example of outdoor range shenanigans:
>be years ago
>be me
>bring buddy to public hunting land that has a few birms/backstops for targets
>only have glock 23 at the time
>he has a 10/22 fudd edition
>get bored of stagnant target shooting
>nobody else around
>set up targets at each birm (about 25, 50, and 75yds)
>initiate autism-tier assault/movement live fire drill
>buddy suppresses farther targets with 10/22 while I assault the next birm with my pistol
>tried to take it seriously but it was so obviously dumb we just kept laughing the whole time
>realize that if anyone saw us they'd probably think we were mentally fucked
>leave range
>get on /k/ and have more tactical experience than most of the faggots on here

In sum, you'd be surprised what you can get away with...
>>

>Why are there never any rimfire / 10/22 threads? Why does everyone get a nugget for their first rifle?
Milsurp guns with cheap ammo were cool because they were cheap to buy and shoot like a .22 while still being full power guns, which attracted a ton of people to them. Now days there are quite a few of us who refuse to pay the current price for .22lr that has about doubled over the past several years. Between that and how I personally can reload 9mm and .380 for about 38% more than .22lr costs, I really can't bring myself to pay the current prices most people want for .22lr even though I have both a .22 rifle and pistol.
>>
>>31870350
If you cast your own bullets and get some shotgun powder you could reload 38spl for the same cost as .22
>>
>>31870350
>.22lr widely available for 6-7 cents a round
>138% of $0.07 is 8.3 cents a round
1. I don't believe you, unless you are miraculously getting lead for free to cast your own and simultaneously leeching the electricity needed to power your free/hand-me-down smelter while simultaneously using free candles to flux it.
2. That's literally dozens of hours invested per thousand rounds if you are home casting for a 2 cent difference per round

It takes me like 2 hours to cast 1000 boolits. Plus if you enjoy it as a hobby the time doens't really matter.

Besides that, the entirety of the fun of a .22 was being able to shoot tons of ammo for cheap. If it costs the same as reloaded 9mm or 38 then there's no point to it.

>electricity to run the pot (varies, but they are high wattage and generally very inefficient)
>>

>>

But it doesn't cost the same as reloaded 9mm or .38 or .380 or literally any other reloadable caliber.

>.22lr widely available for 6-7 cents a round
No, it isn't. I have yet to see it consistently go below ~$.08 (including shipping when ordering online) and I can reload 9mm and .380 for $.11. On the occasions that it does drop into the $.06-$.07 range I buy it but that requires me to go to a specific store on a specific day and they don't always have it. I get by bullets locally from a company that casts them.

>2. That's literally dozens of hours invested per thousand rounds if you are home casting for a 2 cent difference per round
I can crank out a couple hundred rounds per hour for one, and I'm getting to shoot the guns I keep around for practical purposes as well.

>>31870396

Electricity is cheap and I doubt running one for a few hours is going to put a dent in my electric bill that's normally in the low $40 range when compared to my dated computer that runs 16/7, my CRT TV, my electric stove. and my toaster oven that I use to bake things.

I know it's impracticable. Just tell me where I can buy it. So far my only option is to buy a 590a1 SPX and a 500 with the furniture I want and Frankenstein a monster. If I do that I have to find a bayonet that fits the aesthetic.

I have a .22 pistol with a red dot on it and I'm not sure about getting a dovetail mount that replaces your rear sight. I still have the rear sight on my .22 pistol and have a small white box painted on the base of the red dot sight that lines up in the rear sight notch when the red dot is centered in the tube in case I lose track of the dot and to help me find the dot immediately when drawing. I'm not sure about using a smaller red dot sight on a pistol without some sort of reference point in the event that you lose the dot.

>>31873165
If you want a pistol with a short barrel and a longer grip like that you could always get a Sig P250/P320 compact/subcompact and buy a full size or compact frame separately (they were about $40 when I looked up doing this a while ago), then cut the extra material off the frame. I was looking at doing something like pic related with one of the subcompact .380 P250s, but the supply seemed to dry up shortly after I got interested.

Is right now a bad time to just be getting in to firearms? For the first time in many years, I have enough expendable income to support a hobby after food, bills, gas, etc. I have $500 in my recreational budget right now and I'm not really sure what to do with it.

Also I have like 120 MRE that I've saved from various things, not really sure what to do with those but keep them for now I guess.

I am at a loss when it comes to my first .308 target rifle. I just don't see much of a difference. Considering paper punching as primary use, is there any real difference between the following:
CZ 550 (1000€ +mount)
Savage 10 fcp-sr (1200)
Rem 700 SPS Varmint (1200)
Howa 1500 (1000+)
T3x CTR (1600)
Ruger Precision Rifle (1800)
T3x Tacticool(2000)

Shot Remington, Savage and Howa, handled T3 CTR.
Not impressed with rem and Howa, Savage shot great but working the action almost amounts to actual work plus a gunsmith told me they were hard to work on. CTR had a nice bolt but I haven't actually shot it and it's much more expensive, plus reloaded the buddies tell me I should get the longest barrel possible. Also it seems more expensive without much added value.
Might swap stocks and triggers later, but at first out-of-the-box performance is what I am looking for.

Hey guys, pardon the potentially long post

Commiefornian here, raised by a liberal family that thinks guns are as bad as nuclear warfare.
Recently started developing an interest in guns, and as luck would have it, my grandfather had this Remington 512 Sportmaster in his attic and basically said he'd give it to me. I know very little about guns, but I look forward to learning.

From what little research I've done, this thing isn't particularly special, but works just fine. He didn't have any rounds to fire, but said he'd lube and clean the bolt.

It's been sitting in his attic for probably 50 years, wrapped up. He doesn't remember when he bought it, but it was likely the late 1940's, early 1950's. I won't be able to check serial numbers for more precise dating for about a week.

Lots of questions that make me sound really uneducated on the topic, because I am:
>How do I even transport/carry this thing around?
I've never seen gun owners where I live. How do I take this thing into a shop to have it looked at, and should I have it covered up when it's in my car? I'd imagine the average Californian calling 911 with even a glimpse of the thing.
>Where can I shoot this thing outside of a range?
National forests, right? When my grandfather moved to his current house, it was very rural. Now, sprawling suburbia; curious how far away I have to go from cities to shoot it.
>Should I have someone check it out before I fire it?
Just want to make sure it's safe
>Do I need to tell the state or anyone that I now own a firearm?
I know rifles are more relaxed in the law, but I don't need someone coming along and taking it away because of something I missed
>Does the barrel look okay?
I've heard stuff about bluing, but I don't know what condition it needs to be in.

I have a few more pictures if necessary, especially for that last question. Thanks in advance for any help.
>>
>>31860700
Best 80% lower? Thinking forged or billet.
>>
>>31879571
You don't have to tell anyone, if you really want the rifle in your name and have it legally handed to you go to a gunshot with grandpa and do a ppt (private party transaction) doing so means you'll have to take the firearm safety certification and the whole process will trigger the waiting period. So it'll take a week and~40-60$ to do it the super legal way.
Or you can just have grandpa hand you the rifle and if anyone asks he gave it to you through your father, an act which is on the books and legal.

You don't have to do either, no one will ever ask you from a place of authority where you got it. Obeying these laws are nonsense especially for a bolt .22.

For pistols, a carry sight will meet some or all of the following criteria:
- Fixed sights. Adjustable sights are typically very large (snag hazard) and also, for the most part, less durable.
- High-visibility. Typically accomplished with a wider rear notch and a front sight with some sort of feature to draw your attention (painted white ring, phosphorescent ring, fiber optic, etc.).
- Snag-free or reduced snag. You don't want sights that are too sharp or overly large, so they don't catch on your clothing.
- Tritium. It's important to have sights that work in low light, though not everybody follows this for carry.

Target sights will typically be all black, usually serrated on the front and/or rear faces in order to reduce glare. Sometimes they'll have a fiber optic rod on the front sight (especially for competition). Often times they'll be adjustable. Rear notch widths will be relatively narrow. Front sight will typically be very thin (<.115").

Is there any reason I should buy a more modern shotgun over an 1897? I already have burglar guns so the shotgun is mostly for the purpose of birding.
>>
>>31879878
I'll keep that in mind, thanks

Another one; when people say a handgun has a mag capacity of 7+1 or 8+1, the "1" is referring to the round that's been chambered right?

Could you say load a 7 round .45 1911, chamber a round, then take out the mag and load another round into it so it now has 8 rounds loaded?
>>
>>31879886
reliability and ergonomics mostly

Also unless I'm mistaken the 1897's bolt comes out like a repeating rifle, which might dig into your hand or even bite you, could get annoying if you're not conscious, internal magazine capacity is only about 5 or 6 shells too depending on the brand.
>>
M134's (miniguns) are powered by a electric motor
technically, could the firerate be as fast or as slow as you could spin the barrel? 1 round per second to as fast as you could spin it without the mounts failing
>>
>>31880924
You mean crank it manually like a gatling gun?

If it's not spinning at a constant rate it's firing mechanism will likely jam, hence why a motor is used.
>>
>>31880981
I meant that the fire rate is arbitrary, as long as it would be spinning constantly
so if you were low on ammo you could reduce it from 2000 to 1000 or 500 per minute

Depends on where you are

.t noguns in New Jersey, tried to be funny, ignore me
>>
>>31882472
a lot of people are put off by online purchasing bc they dont want to seem stupid asking questions but its pretty simple.
it would be best finding a local ffl/dealer first. call around and as what theyre transfer fee is-depends on the area but figure roughly $25 for a transfer. also ask if they accept guns from individuals- some places dont.
"individuals" mean someone sending a gun not through an ffl on their end, just as a individual person. this is important bc not everyone will ship through an ffl, especially on gunbroker.
next, find the gun you want and buy it.
send payment along with a copy of the FFL from your local dealer. you can call your dealer and have them send their ffl.
its also a good idea to call and inform your dealer that you have a gun coming to them for transfer. include your personal information too, so your dealer/gunshop can call you when they receive your gun.
the seller gets payment and ffl, sends your gun to your dealer. you come in, fill out a 4473, pay the transfer fee, and go home with your new gun.
>>
>>31882472
If you're going to meet the person face-to-face, you don't really need anything. Though, definitely check with state and local laws.

If you're buying from a store or what have you, you need to get it sent to a FFL. If that is the case, I highly suggest you find a FFL willing to take in the gun before you buy it.

thats what the 4473 is. its a form you fill out stating you arent a criminal, illegal immigrant, etc.. your dealer calls it in to the NICS
>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Instant_Criminal_Background_Check_System
the NICS can give one of three response to your form: proceed, hold, and denial.
proceed is the green light. hold is means put the sale on hold and do not proceed. this can be due to you having a similar name as someone else or whatever. it might come up, dont worry. the dealer should get a call back saying everything is ok. another scenario is if the NICS has three days to respond. if they dont within those three days, your dealer can go ahead with the transfer. and then denial- you dont get the gun, the gun is shipped back to the seller, and youll end up paying whatever fees there are for the seller and FFL
