As for the M855, get M193 at the very least. M855 is godawful and ineffective compared to M193 along with modern loads like TAP or GMX.

Need to figure out how to explain to my wife why, despite having 3K rounds of m855 I need more .223 ammo.

I mean if it's all you have then go for it. Though at least try to get some M193. It has better terminal ballistics than M855 and it's more accurate (home defense distances are negligable).

There's really no reason why you should buy any more M855. It's the same price as M193 but with worse terminal ballistics and accuracy, I have 80 rounds of M855 that I don't shoot or know why I even bought.

Just keep your M855 for now and completely avoid buying it ever again when you start running out.
