I just traded a 1940 BSA No.1 MkIII* SMLE w/ bayonet for this, a vz24 bayonet (w/scabbard+frog), and a random Carcano bayonet.
She's a 1911 Carl Gustafs Gevär m/96. Parts matching, stock disc rates the barrel as a "2", though by my inspection it looks a fair bit brighter than that. The stock's a little dinged up but in good shape, and the whole thing looks to have a really nice original finish. Somehow, I've managed to go this long without owning a Mauser, so this is my first.

How'd I do, /k/?
>>
>>31845786
What've you got to trade? I'm in the market for a P14 or a good Mannlicher M95/34.

How does the cock on close feel on that? I've never gotten the chance to fingerfuck a swedish mauser.

T B H senpai, I would have either kept the enfield with the nice sword bayonet, or traded it for a german mauser, just my opinion. Not saying that a swedish mauser isn't nice though

I'm interested in picking up a Luger. The milsurp side of me is obviously wanting a surplus 9mm model, but the collector side of me would be happy with either a military model or a commercial model. From my understanding, military models are generally more expensive but commercial models are generally not as expensive and easier to find in nicer shape than a surplus model. I'm not looking to spend a few grand on some super collectible model; I'd be happy spending around $1000-$1500 on something in a decent enough condition, although matching numbers is more important to me than condition (to an extent, I'd take a mismatched gun in super nice shape over a matching rust bucket that I couldn't safely shoot). I'm really on the fence about .30 or 9mm.

For those of you with commercial models, how easy/difficult is it for you to get your hands on .30 Luger for a decent price? If I pick one up if want to shoot it some, not heavily but enough to become familiar with the function and feel of the gun.

>>
>>31846003
I do, but I'm away from my computer at the moment.
I am gonna miss that 17 inches of fuck you, but Enfields look like they've plateaued in value, so I could always get another down the road. That particular SMLE always gave me issues anyway. Bore looked fine, but it tended to throw anything that wasn't PPU all over the fucking place, and never wanted to feed anything other than softpoints. Never could work out quite why. Personally, I think it was haunted.

LGS owner called me about some nuggets he's bringing in this week, says they're all in "good" shape and wants ~ $225 for gun/bayo and he may have some ammo pouches and a tool lying around. Anything I can look for in particular to make sure I'm not taken for a ride?
>>

>>
>>31845963
I don't think all stock disks are correct anyway, some have obviously been replaced and in any case it's been years since they were stamped and the rifle has likely been shot since then; making their indicated condition possibly innacurate. Still though, it's hard to find a shot out Swedish Mauser.

Is gunbroker a good pllace to buy guns? Im looking for a Steyr M95, carbine preferably.

>>
>>31846233
>does anyone own an m1917?
I know it's sacraligeous to even mention sporters in these threads but I picked up a sporter M1917 for very little money. I though that since it's already been fucked beyond repair I might as well make use of it, it's still a working firearm. It's a bit like a girl with burn scars or a missing leg, she needs love too even if she feels inadequate. And besides the actions are wonderful and fun to use.

It had surface rust in places that needed cleaning, and it looks like someone used some shitty cold blue on it because it's got a mix of different finishes. Once I get the stock worked out I might see if I can adress the issue of the finish, I don't trust it not to develop rust at the slightest sign of moisture. I'll put a 3-9x40 on it and have a nice little rifle, albeit a sadly butchered one.

I want a correct one, but finding them in decent condition for reasonable money isn't that easy around here.
>>
>>31849355
Just check the bore for serious pitting, along with the bolt face. That's a good price these days.
>>31849781
If you know how to shop it's great. I get most of my guns off Gunbroker, because none of my local shops carry milsurp. You just have to research your shit, which you should be doing for milsurp anyways.
>>
>>31846233
I picked up one for a song ($370) in great shape a few years back at a gun store in Long Island.
You still may have a decent chance of people not having a fucking clue what it is like I did.
Scour gun stores, and Gun shows. Gunbroker is probably your best bet.
There really isn't too much to it, it's a mauser style cock on close and the official US Army manual for maintenance, care and zeroing it is available for free in PDF form - light coat of oil will keep it purring.
>>
>>31849781
Just check seller reviews, make sure you get a bore shot, and check the going rate of the gun before you buy and you'll be alright
>>
>>31849789
Is the barrel cut down?
Even if it's fucked you might be able to restore it into a M1917 Carbine:
http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2015/01/16/m1917-carbine/

And make buku bucks off of it
>>
>>31850240
It was pretty decently done Remington, by someone who knew gunsmithing. The sight ears were ground off and it was drilled properly, the barrel is military but I can't tell the date because it's been chopped down to 22". It's in an old laminate stock and should make a good shooter once I get the bases sorted out, it's going to be pillar bedded too.

Unfortunately this seemed to be done to a lot of them because people wanted .30-06 hunting rifles and 1917s were cheap and strong.
>>
>>31845813
You certainly did well. I have an unissued one from 1967, arsenal refurb and another from 1902 both with unmarked discs and mint bores. Swede is my favorite Mauser
>>
Is my best bet to find a nice k31 gunbroker? What should i bother paying for one?

This might be better for the reloading thread but is the hornandy or rcbs kit better? I figure besides the press and dies im gonna need calipers, a case trimmer, and a brass cleaner. Ive got a manual already. Is there anything im missing

They're really nice. I can't quite figure what happened to this one, I know it was converted and refurbished into a m/38 at Carl Gustafs after that best guess is that it was in Germany for a while (evidenced by German proof marks), some time between then and now the stock has been changed to one of a very close serial number, and I'm sure it's been lightly sanded too. All metalwork matches though apart from the bolt release catch, bore is great and it shoots like a Swede. My eyes aren't really suited to open sights thought.
>>
>>31850680

>>31850690
Yeah, thing is all the marks were obliterated by the sanding. The hand grooves are also slightly rounded, otherwise though you couldn't tell it was sanded.

I would have thought that their arsenals would have re-stamped the stocks though. This one is weird because it's got a stock from an earlier serial number range than 1916 (when the rifle was made), but that serial number has been stamped out with a line and another number, close to the receiver's serial number, has been added. I would need to take it down again to have another look, but that's the situation as I recall it. I can only assume that at some point, around the time they were surplused, either the Swedish military swapped the stock for another rifle before selling them off or a dealer bought a batch and swapped one rifle's stock for another. I can only assume the real stock disk went with it.

I forget the name of these sights, but it still has its original from when it was converted. I check zeroed it at 25m when I first got it and found the lowest elevation setting, 250 on this sight model, to shoot right on with my usual 6 'o clock hold.

Correct me if I'm wrong but there is another model of m/38 sight that is only adjustable from 300 to 600 or so, right?

Actually, it's technically an armory since about 60% of the exposed models are functionals, and sometimes instructors take some to the range for fun.
It's in France, Coëtquidan military camp, Saint-Cyr military academy.
It's open to the public only once a year for the Triomphe ceremonies.

Those are done by Century. However the French (Navy?) Did a few as well. These, supposedly, do not suffer from the reliability issues of the Century conversions.

Well /k/, just got this, how did I do?

There were also like 200 factory 7.62 NATO versions. There were also some made in .30-06 (the French were thinking about how many M1s they had in service at the time) and other various calibers as prototypes.

I don't like the goop that bubba plastered in the butt socket (look at pic 4), but other than that a 1923 made one isn't exactly common.

Hmm didn't catch that, good eye. I figured with the sights and the seemingly good condition I got a pretty good deal, but I won't know for sure until it arrives. I'll be happy as long as I can shoot it though, don't plan on selling it anytime soon.

Okay. How do I get a Styer M95 variant? And how hard is it to find ammo and clips?

Hello there. These happen to be my favorite rifles. They are rather difficult to find unsporterized, but they do pop up on Gunbroker, Armslist, and some places like collectors firearms. Be patient and you'll have one.

As for proper care, there's not much too it, it's a simple bolt, as others have mentioned it's simply a Mauser 98 with cock on close. Keep the bore clean and strip it and clean occasionally and it will always work.
You'll note the bottom rifle in my pic is a P14

Hey, I don't usually post in this thread, but do any of you have any super high quality Arisaka pictures? I was told you're the experts here. I've got a bit of a fetish for the thing and I need some Arisaka gun porn. Murata rifles would be awesome too.

Hey, I have one of those. It is a 10's manufacture that was sent to Britain during lend-lease according to the markings. Really good, light trigger, but kicks like a mother-fucker.

That is a pretty nice looking No4. I love rifles that still have Walnut stocks, unfortunately so many were changed out for Beech that it's not that common to find one with its original; sometimes it will be one that's been added later.
