>>
>>31846614

It irritates me to no end when some ignorant fuckwit complains about their expensive SCAR or LWRC or whatever not coming with a plastic hard case like their Rock River or Bushmaster did. They don't understand how cheap and flimsy those things are. They don't understand how the custom designed cardboard case is actually much more expensive to produce and they don't understand how much better it protects the weapon through warehouse storage and the shipping process. And they never come to the realization that providing a decent case the likes of a Pelican or Storm would only make said gun that much more expensive for coming with something that not everyone even wants. And even after explaining all of this to them you are still most likely to hear them say "well I paid this much so it should come with something." Fuck I hate stupid people.

It specifically notes the battle rifle was meant to replicate the power of WW2 era bolt action and garand rifles into something capable of automatic fire.

Except the definition of a battle rifle is loose as fuck, is the SVT40 not a battle rifle? It technically has a detachable magazine, hell, the AVS-36 rifle was very similar while being select-fire.
What about the G41 and G43, do they not count?
Or even earlier, the ZH29 and the Mondragon, they featured detachable magazines and even had larger capacity ones.
>>
>>31861534
The term was used to describe the post WW2 era rifles that had the full power cartridges of the WW2 rifles, with the full auto capability of a machine gun, and a detachable magazine to keep it fed.

But a garand is as much a part of /brg/. Yeah, people post them, no, they aren't really battle rifles. Stop wearing your heart on your sleeve, deal with that the term doesn't quite apply to whatever rifle your gay over, and get on with your life.

Hi /BRG/. I posted a while back about getting some BR's, ended up getting qt. 4 PTR91 FR's. I need some help: My budget for optics/grips/stands/bipods is ~$1200. I need to get at least 2 dedicated optics that are picatinny based, and at least 2 bipods that are functional with the FR barrel.

I'm going with Magpul (no hate please) for their underbarrel vertical/angular grips. Magazines I'm buying a couple dozen of the surplus aluminum/steel mags that you can pick up for ~3 each. Ammo situation is set with a couple k .308 plinkers and some more special stuff.

I know I should be asking /optic/ or maybe make another thread but I trust your guys' judgement. For the optics I'm ok with something that doesn't necessarily cowitness the irons. Maybe a DMR scope and some medium price reflexes.

Help me /BRG/! You guys are great.
>>
>>31861899
If you wanted a tacticool rifle you shoudlve built an AR-10 instead. Get a vortex viper and hk bipod, maybe a micro red dot from aimpoint also
>>
>>31861899
Optics aren't based on an interface with the rifle unless the mount and it are one piece

What's your budget and purpose for the glass?

Are there any battle rifles with a fixed mag which feeds with regular stripper clips, rather than the Garand with it's en-bloc clips?
>>

Primary Arms optics everything. Even then your going to make sacrifices.

No battle rifles have a fixed mag.
It's part of what makes a battle rifle an actual battle rifle.
>>

The Gew.41/43, MAS Mle.49, SAFN-49, and Ljungmann Ag42/Hakim have mags that were meant to be re-loaded with stripper clips, though they are detachable.

PTRs are pretty close to clones of HK91s but new PTRs will have the correct paddle mag release. The fit and finish is a bit nicer on HKs. They are rougher on brass but you can significantly lessen the damage with a port buffer.

I'm not OP but that's my rifle in the pic. I started with the 17S, it had the reputation for reliability and the light weight I wanted. Plus when I got mine it was $2650.

I took it through a carbine class and had a shitload of fun with it, no stoppages and able to keep up with the AR/AK's in the class just fine.

It's pretty salty to shoot at that volume though, so I figured I'd get the 16S to train with, found a used one for $2k on arfcom back when a used 16S was only $2k. It's gone through a couple classes/shooting outings now also and never skips a beat.

They're extremely light, easy to set up how I want, and some of my most accurate rifles. The 16S is the only 5.56 rifle I even shoot anymore, honestly. That said, I fucking hate the way they're built. They're assembled with these shit-metal screws that they red-loctited in. Makes it a bit of a bitch to work on them yourself sometimes.
>>

Considering a $1k AR could compete with it then I wouldn't say that's reasonably priced.

M1 Garand would be a good battle rifle that's also suitable for hunting.
Make sure you get an adjustable gas-plug if you're gonna shoot modern .30-06 commercial ammo.

The M14 also works, doing most of the same things with a bit less weight and higher capacity.
You could also impress your fudds by taking out a 20rd GI mag at the range, I'm sure even them can appreciate the beauty of an old wood and steel fighting rifle (5 or 10rd mags are probably a bit more practical for the actual hunting part).

I love the M1 Rifle. Only a fool would dislike it. That said; BETTER than the M14? The M14 is higher capacity, can be reloaded with either clips or mag, has an improved gas system, is select fire (though kind of useless on full auto), and fires 7.62 Nato which is just as hot as M2 Ball .30-06 except the half inch shorter cartridge allows for a shorter action (which can improve reliability I hear), lessen the weight of the firearm, and due to the round being shorter it makes the ammo slightly lighter, and makes mags shorter/lighter than they would be if they were in .30-06. Speaking of weight, isn't the M14 a little lighter than the M1 Rifle when unloaded? I mean, probably not by much, and certainly not lighter when loaded with a full mag, but any weight savings is good.

To be fair however, I believe it's smoother/faster to reload with an en bloc clip than with mags or stripper clips. An M1 Rifle shooting side-by-side with an M14 in semi auto at, say, a 300m+ target, I don't think the M14 would outshoot the M1 Rifle by much due to swapping mags taking longer than loading with an en bloc clip.

No sakuya fan club for me son. I enjoy the BRG threads.

I dont enjoy them when sakuya is being a major asshole putting everything else down and posting nothing but pics of natty ice and it's FAL.

Sure there are better choices out there but it's god damn it's a BRG thread! Appreciation for all battle rifles out there. Cant there be a decent a convo instead of a shit fest?

Eh, too lazy to take a pic. Just lemme know if I dun gut.

Black Rain Ordnance Spec-15 16", Cryptic Coatings' mystic black BCG, Bravo Company charging handle, Geissele buffer spring, LaRue MBT (trigger), Precision Reflex flip-up sights and an Aimpoint Comp M4. Also have an 8" can, but I hardly ever use it.

I didn't realize I spent so much on my gun until now. Feels good, man.

Can the H&K SL7 be converted reasonably easy to take G3 mags or was it totally fucked up like the SL8?

I also recall hearing there were a scant few select-fire "police" models of the SL6 and SL7, did these use a G3 kind of trigger group or is that shit completely incompatible?
>>
>>31880533
>reasonably easy
No; the retention geometry is all wrong. You'd have better luck with M14 mags. There are existing 20rd mags for the SL7; they bring a lot of money when they sell.
>>
>>31880588
I see, I heard it was based on the G3/HK91, but I guess only in that the action works in the same way.

I was thinking since the SL8 was actually really close to the G36 (sans the effort they went through to make it really difficult and expensive to rebuild into a G36 clone), then maybe that applied to the old roller-delayed sporter too.

>There are existing 20rd mags for the SL7; they bring a lot of money when they sell.
I could see that. Anything old H&K or anything cool for them usually does.

The BCG looks pretty similar, just doesn't have the huge tube on top to reach the charging handle/contain the return spring. The receiver however is very different.
