Alright /k/unts. Plausibility of a real life Titan.
>inb4 muh tanks
viewing titans as mechsuits, or beefed up armored infantry, would they work on an actual battlefield? also, robots and other shit, how about them?
>>31845229
Take your mech fantasy shit to /m/
>>31845229
entirely depends on their mobility.
if they are slow they are dead meat even to ifs.
if they can run around fast as an armored car they might serve a niece role.
>>31845229
The Titans are kinda pointless.
The Spectres or whatever the robot grunts are called would be quite useful. Use them for the brute numbers needed in infantry and keep a human team or squad leader.

>>>/m/
Take it to your containment board where it belongs.
OP literally outside of man sized power armor a tank will always be better than a mech.
>>31845229
Where's that image-quote from the black guy from Snake Eater explaining why talking tanks are a stupid idea?
>Design multibillion dollar robot
>Give it boobs
What's the fucking point?
>>31845405
>have your own board
>post on the wrong board
What's the fucking point?
What purpose will a mech serve?
>>31845513
People always compare mechs to tanks, saying there is no point in having a large mech. I like to see them as armored infantry. Working with regular infantry, capable of being in urban and mountainous terrain. Fighting like infantry with big ass guns, running, taking cover, even climbing obstacles. They could even help soldiers climb over things or get on rooftops by climbing on top of the mech onto the roof allowing them to assault buildings from the top down.
>>31845419
That's a character straight from Titanfall, pham.
>>31845633
>I like to see them as armored infantry.
that's retarded for multiple reasons, if you watched chappie that is how armored infantry will work most likely. all sans softies to save space.
>>31845405
>not giving robots boobs with their robutts.
Do you have the gay son?
>>31845229
No.
>>31845405
>Exos in Destiny can be male or female
>>31845229
>viewing titans as mechsuits, or beefed up armored infantry, would they work on an actual battlefield? also, robots and other shit, how about them?
No. There is zero scenario where they're worth building for a pure combat role, unless you're fighting on the planet of stairs.
There are perhaps some applications for oversized exoskeletons in lifting/logistics and they could, in a pinch, pick up a big gun.
best
>>31849439
Nigger, do you even Tallgeese?
>>31849439
>>31849460
Outta my way
>>31845229
Very high profile, your element of surprise is nil.
Each joint is a potential weak point. If one of them goes, the entire system is fucked.
All of the mech's weight will be concentrated in two small areas, they will sink right into soil, and tear asphalt the fuck up.
That being said, I still think giant robots are awesome as fuck.
>>31849480
my motherfucking nigger
>>31849460
Tallgeese truly is the best mobile suits, Gundams were lame compared to Tallgeese.
>>31845229
Realistically, they would be the size of Scopedogs, just from the square-cubed rule. Also, there's really no need for them outside of maybe urban fighting which is rare enough anyways.
>>31849747
yeah let's ban urban fighting so we never need mechs!
>>31845229
There is no point whatsoever.
Animals have limbs/legs only because they need to be able to walk on nearly all kinds of terrain just in case. Legs are basically jack of all trades, master of none.
Vehicles do not need to be jacks of all trades. They are not self-sufficient organisms trying to survive no matter what. We can build different machines for different purposes and this approach will end up both cheaper and more effective.
>>31845633
I too like to see tanks as armored infantry. Except for the part where they are very expensive ladders.
this little bastard here is the only acceptable unacceptable mecha.
I mean, the least horrible?
well its stupid, but is a marine-amphibious stealth assault mech.
I just like it
>>31849747
most of them ARE the size of scopedogs. the tallest one, not counting weapon pods and such, are less than half a meter taller.
>>31845405
>counterweight
"Gotta fit the gyroscope somewheres."
>>31845229
>>31845229
If their manoeuvrability is proportional to their size to around that of a regular human, sure they may be a plausible super versatile heavy weapons platform. When it comes down to the nitty gritty of a real battle and a wider war however, I just don't see how all the complex machinery could be reliable enough for extended ground operations, not to mention the god-like logistics just to keep one supplied and maintained while taking on anything from superficial to serious damage.
If in this alternative reality you had the fantasy tech to actually make one, you'd also need the fantasy logistics to keep it fighting.
>>31845229
Lrn2 square-cube law you dumb fuck.
In any world where real life physics apply, your Titans would rip themselves apart unless they moved like sloths on opiates.
>>31849139
GIANT FOXHOLES WHEN?
