I've found the older (Until 2002) 4runners are good.

I've heard of issues with newer models but have no experience.

I'm a Wrangler owner. You take care of it, it'll take care of you.

Problems I've had with mine:
>Power stearing pump breaks: 3 times in 8 years
>Radiator leakage: one replacement
>Transfer case went: My fault, rebuilt
>Alternator once in 8 years
Other than that the interiors have very eh quality but its alright
They're not exactly family cars and they don't really make for the most comfortable ride in the world.
Cross country don't expect your stock jeep to tackle everything. You'll need a few things, at the least a good set of shocks and tires.

Tbqh I prefer my '06 Silverado to my '04 Wrangler.

Just picked up this little dude as a winter daily and camping/hunting vehicle. It's bone stock on street tires, but the plan is to do a mild spring under lift, 30ish inch tires, roof rack, lighting, then bumpers and other goodies eventually.

Maybe a rattlecan camo paintjob too, it has a non-OEM color rattlecan job anyway.

They drop high torque motors into what is basically an SUV or car frame and it never ends well. When the Grand Cherokee came out with a new design in 96-97 they put some piss ant rear end in it and i did at least 6 replacements over the summer.

You might be able to happen upon a used Lexus for cheaper than an equivalent Toyota. GX/LX models are basically Prado/Land Cruisers. Get one, mod it, give no fucks.

Infinity might also be good in this way. The QX56 was basically a Titain IIRC, so it'll do the job and should be a steal in comparison to riced out 4runners or bubba'd Wranglers.

I've got a 2007 Jeep liberty I picked up for $5500 aus dollars, do not recommend. It's done 200,000 k's and it's in good nick, but fuck it's horrible for off-road as the chassis and suspension are absolute shit, also fuel is fucked, 15-18L/100km. Also it's a prick to fix jeeps, it's like everything in them is made to be a pain in the ass. Do yourself a favour and buy something else.

Literally everything you've said can be done with a 1-3rd gen 4runner with the same mods. Also a Toyota can survive hitting anything bigger than a racoon? Please, if you're going to shit post try not to be obvious about it.

3rd Gen 4runner can go for 500k-1mil miles with care, can be lifted with tundra and land cruiser parts (cheap and good quality), can upgrade brakes with tundra brakes, has enough space to expo vehicle with (put sleeping platform in for good space usage), can accept 33s and use them with minimal if any work (depends on width and rims rlly), has a ton of support and is pretty bombproof, can get it with stock supercharger/rear locker if you want.
