Thread about tactical boots, what do you wear /k/? What have you tried before? How did they serve you and what would you recommend?

For my part I got a pair of LOWA Z-8N GTX black, pic related, haven't put them to a real test yet but served me well so far, quite comfortable and good to wear in civie life with the comming cold.
Stang my wallet though even if I found them at a lower price at 200 euros.

I have super-poorfag Savage Island 50$ patrol boots multicam, but they are neat for the price
>>
>>31841017
I sometimes think I was crazy giving 200e for a pair but I can afford it.

On another note I also had bought a pair with 40e from a local indiginous producer, served me well, actual leather but no fancy goretex or polymers, super light, water eventually trickled in when I scoured the bottom between two hills after days of rain, did their job though I'd say.
>>
>>31840947
I have them too, only downside is, if you walk on things like wet metal it's like walking on ice.

What do you think of motorcycle boots as 'tactical' boots?
>>
They're nearly identical to the zephyrs I think. Low as are phenomenally light weight for the boot, I think.

>>31841487
They're like ski boots...no mobility and heavy as fuck. You wouldn't be able to do much of anything in them.

I like my bellville minimil boots, they're comfy and about as close to my minimal hipster shoes as I've found in boot form.
>>
>>31840947

Got some of them Bates tactical will the nice Goretex in them so they're waterproof as long as the water stays below the top of the boot.

I chew through about a pair of boots every two years, and these are some of the better ones I've gotten.

Also, I wear them on my motorcycle, they are nice.
>>
>>31841710
Look great, do they make them with thicker soles?

I'd rather not step on a nail in those
>>
>>31840947
Former Securi-fag here. I wore the 5.11 Taclite 6 inch when I was working. I found the stock laces to be trash, so replaced them with Danner laces. I would wear out the bottoms in about a year and need to replace them. good traction on snow, but not waterproof (80% of my areas were inside). The zipper on the side is worthless for me, had to unlace to get my foot in regardless. The black ones seem surprisingly easy to scuff, but you can polish them out. If you can find them on sale under $100 I recommend, but not at MSRP.

Most motorcycle boots are extra stiff to protect your babby feet from being snapped off if you down the bike

Your feet being stiffly locked is not something you want in a "tactical" boot

DO NOT get anything from 5.11

9 weeks of academy and the rubber is already worn down to the point there's little tread left in some areas, and I barely wear them, mostly just sitting in a classroom all day. They don't take a shine well either. Complete waste of money, last time I ever listen to a boot salesman.

>when your leather boots leave black residue on everything

I don't know if it's the polish I put on, or the dye itself. Doesn't matter if it's an abrasive cloth, rubbing alcohol or any other method of getting that shit off. I have no fucking idea what to do, nothing works
>>
>>31844367
post pics of the boots and the kind of mark you mean

is it marking the floor or your pants
>>
>>31844547
Not at home right now, but they're McRae combat boots, and it's the leather itself that's leaving residue on my pant legs. I'm almost certain that it's from improper shoe polish application, but it doesn't want to buff on right anyway. If any material comes into contact with it, it leaves dusty black shit all over everything

>>
>>31844654
I'd want to look at them to be sure, but

If it's the shoe polish, you're pretty much fucked because the pigmented wax once worked into the fibers of your pants will be there forever until you mechanically removed them, and by then it would have leached and dyed the fibers.

Rub your hand on the boot really hard like if you rubbed your hands together to get the dirt and shit off.

If you get black flecks you need to stop using kiwi and grab either a cream based wax or skip wax and just condition.

Do you need them for duty or are they just your own boots? If the latter I'd suggest ditching wax and go straight for obenaufs if you use them in wet conditions, or just mink oil if you're a desertfag. Either will keep them dark and shiny without getting black shit anywhere, and be better for the leather 'to boot'
>>
GOt a pair of corcoran marauders to deal with factory heat and I was still soaking out my hot weather socks, third pair in eight hours, by the end of the shift and coming home with macerations and blisters all over my last three toes. Switched to some mesh top adidas runners and the problem is mostly resolved though now my feet look like an aerial photo of bombed out trenches
>>
>>31844215
Just like with guns, there is no one boot that will do everything. For most shit, salomons are top tier. You definitely pay for it though
>>
I wear LL Bean boots. I can wear them in to town or in the woods or whatever without looking like a huge tactiqueer, but they're still good boots.
>>
>>31846328
Great advice, and since these boots are for personal use, I certainly don't mind having a more matte finish on them. However, do you have an recommendations on how to thoroughly remove kiwi wax from the leather without also harming the dyes in the boot? Is friction the only real way to do it?

>>
Lowa Zephyr something or other, can't remember if they're the goretex ones or not.

While I'm here, I'll post the same PSA I always do, in case somebody's in the market for boots - there is no "best" brand and the internet can't tell you what boots to buy. Everybody's feet are different and different brands fit different people. If you want boots, go to a proper outdoor store, like REI or a local backpacking specialist etc., and have a boot fitting done. The nicest boots in the world are worthless if they're not comfortable for you.

Also, tactical boots are basically a meme. Most of them are just civillian hikers that have been recolored to match uniforms. If you absolutely must have operator shoes, and don't have a specialist dealer nearby, go try on civilian boots and then order the tactical equivalent of the same model.

I only have my tacticool Lowas because they fit me the best of anything at REI and the "desert" color was on a really good sale at the time. I was actually trying to avoid something with a military look, because I wear boots for work, but fit trumped looks and it wasn't worth an extra $60 to have a different color.

It's going to be a messy job no matter how you tackle it, but I did it only once for my brother in law's boots.

I read one thing that said to use heat, but I was afraid that would make everything sticky and messy, so I threw his boots (admittedly cheap) in the freezer for a few hours, and using a really stiff brush (kind that hurts your hand) and saddle soap I got all of his caked layers of kiwi off. I just held them in my garage sink and scrubbed the ever loving fuck out of them until black flakes stopped coming off.

Let them dry completely, you don't want moisture in the leather before you apply a top layer of oil above it.

Personally, if you're using your boots for anything more than fashion, I'd go straight for obenaufs LP. It's definitely not a meme and does its job well. Once the boots are dry enough to the point where you think you fucked them up, and then toss the obenaufs in the microwave for 15 seconds at a time until the wax just gets soft but not translucent. Then take finger tip sized amounts at a time and rub that shit into the leather like you're fingering your first girlfriend. The leather will absorb all of it and then some, but the key is to rub the small amounts as far as it will go so it fully absorbs in, but not so much that it cakes on and you can see the wax in between pieces of leather and on the stitching and stuff. It'll hold onto dust and dirt and look like ass.

Mink oil and similar will work fine but imo I'd rather my boots last slightly longer.

As for the dye I can't help you all that much, but pic related is an example of how much obenaufs darkens leather, so if you're starting off with something already black I'm betting you'll be safe.

I'm picking up pick related when they come in next Tuesday for my operating (work) boots. They will be my first pair of really nice leather boots and want to make sure I care for them properly from day 1. That obenaufs LP sounds like good stuff, would I be better off using it than the red wing leather conditioner? Also, a part of me thinks it would be cool on have shiny boots, does the shine come all from polish, or do you need a certain type of leather that is able to be shined?

Salomon boots/shoes are great for outdoors. I've had 2 pair of their trail shoes and really like the pull closure then have in place of traditional laces.

Lems makes a top tier boot for hunting and other tasks where you want to move quietly.

Pros:
>No heel, no support, mega flexible outsole
>Can feel every little stick and bump underfoot
>Move silently without cracking every twig in sight
>Superior ground contact makes you much more nimble and confident in your stride
>Anatomically correct shape -- narrow through heel to reduce slippage, very wide in forefoot allowing toes room to splay
>Material is lightweight and pretty breathable, won't sweat too much

Cons:
>Lack of support might be painful for underdeveloped feet which are used to full arch support and heel
>Especially painful and downright dangerous for fatties, I'd imagine
>Not waterproof at all, not recommended for snowy or rainy areas
>Questionable durability, though no issues yet in 6mo's
>Ugly as fuck in my opinion

They're definitely a niche item, but they've easily become my favourite boots. I've been successfully hunting & stalking all season in these. Forgetting about the flat / flexible otuside (which I personally love), the actual shape of the boot on its own makes them so much comfier than any of my other footwear. I can't go back to a big clumsy overbuilt traditional booot after these.

I also love the dressier leather work shoe this company makes.

10/10 will buy again

Original SWAT with side zipper. Thy only last me about a year until the heel starts to turn to shit on the inside. But they are only $100 which isn't bad.

The side zip is really nice when you're off work and just wanna get your shit off ASAP.

I wear the Nike SFB (originals). Very lightweight and I don't need much protection walking around as a security guard at a hospital.

I also have scanned Acadias. If I still had a job where I am outside in the winter then I would wear them more. Heavy as fuck until you get used to them, and the most annoying to put on and off. Scuffed them to fuck rapidly as well.

Get Garmont t8's. In coyote now.

The best general purpose boot that is allowed to be worn in mil. Even comes in wide width.

Now if you dont want mil boots, get salomons. Any of the firces line is good. Their fucking shoe lace set up and insoles make them better than any other boot. If you have wide feet, go with the garmonts since salomons are for normal width feet.

If you want heritage looking boots get wolverine 1000 miles and get a commando sole put on them. Multiple widths, different colors, and better leather than red wing iron rangers. Last summer i wore these for 10 hours every day and walked at least 10 miles around european cities on shitty cobblestone. Not one blister or callus.

pizza delivery was honestly my favorite job. getting to drive around without a boss up your ass or watching you was great. plus i could just talk on the phone or listen to music and kinda do things at my leisure. felt so freeing.

the only time it sucked was dindus ordering, and they always ordered at the latest hours.

>be open till 1am
>get order for weird sandwich from notoriously crime ridden apartment complex that is 100% dindu
>tell boss no fucking way im bringing that there
>tells me stop bein a fag
>go anyways
>roaming packs of dindus in neighborhood, sitting on stairs, generally being typical
>get to apartment
>angry dindu father answers door
>AINT ORDER NO SAMMICH
>ooook, drive back to store
>get call WHERE MY FUCKIN SAMMICH AT
>boss tells them we went there and you said you didnt order anything and to fuck off

>get call for ham and pineapple pizza from the ghetto at 12:55am
>boss says just keep whatever money for the pizza and the tip
>got into habit of carrying huge chef knife on my palm and pizza bag on top of that
>address ordered to doesnt exist
>pull up to where address is supposed to be
>dindus start to walk towards my truck
>take off and bring pizza home and eat it with my buddy

yea other than that it was a good time. one time this drunk fag backed into my truck when i was loading up pizzas. we ran out of the shop and he just started driving off like nothing had happened. he got stuck behind a car pulling out of the plaza and we tried to kick/smash his windows in and open his doors. all of this in front of a full outside deck of people at hooters watching me and my friend motherfuck this guy and try to rip him out of his car, all without context. cops got called and the guy eventually just pulled out and drove off. i took down his tag and the cops showed up at his house and arrested him.

I have a pair of Lowa Uplander GTX's that are pretty great. Comfy, waterproof, and very light, but needed a lace upgrade out of the box which was disappointing. I also have a pair of the Lowa Desert Elite Boots which are fantastic. My only complaint is that the highly breathable insole they include is very flimsy. They are 10/10 after a Superfeet insole upgrade. Lastly, I have a pair of Danner Crag Rat GTX's which are kind of a mid weight leather hiking boot. These are supremely comfy out of the box, with excellent support but more of a cold weather boot. I'd highly recommend them. The Chippewa boots are just general cold weather work boots. I've had 'em for almost 8 years.
Tough to go wrong with anything by Lowa or Danner. Spend $$ on your boots. You'll be glad you did.

Copfag here.

I've used the magnum stealth 6" zip and loved them. Lasted about a year.
Pros:
-lightweight
-durable
-comfortable once broken in
Cons:
-zipper blew out after about 4 months, and after repair, came off the track a few times
-expensive as fuck
-sized a little small

I also had timberland pro 8" zip. Lasted a year with heavy repair.
Pros:
-comfy as fuck
-not super heavy
Cons:
-zippers blew out at week two, and had to be completely replaced ($40)
-after 4 months, the heel plate started peeling down, to the point where I had to shove a drum stick down the back to flip it up after I got the boots on ($20)
-after six months, the leather and nylon at the top of the shank in the rear started ripping apart ($60 for all new leather wrapping around the top)
-at eight months the heels were abnormally worn (never had that problem with any shoe before, $30)
-at month ten, the toe started separating from the top of the shoe, making it no longer waterproof
-at month twelve, the seal separation had spread around to the sides.

Overall, spent $330 on those damn things, would not recommend

Currently rocking out a pair of 5.11 ATACs 6" zip, got them for $85.
Pros:
-lightweight
-comfy
-waterproof
-super durable
Cons:
None

Another pizza guy, I wear heavy jeans at work. Considering Cordura.

Fuck spics that own dogs. They never control their damned animals, I've sent three chihuahuas into low-earth orbit for biting me.
>>
i own a pair of lowa renegade gtx without goretex. (its shit anyway) the inlay is leather too. keeps the feet cool and dry.

they are comfy as fuck

and i also have a pair of lowa zephyr, for the warm days. it feels like a running shoe

They are great man. I'm on my second pair of them, my first were steel toes, the soft toe is much better

I'm in Minnesota and those never really took off in the part I live in so I do not encounter them often. The biggest issue I have is poorly trained dog-dogs (like no specific breed, just look like dogs) just walking around and not obeying.

The thing is the shitty pits tend to be owned by people who know their dog is a huge financial liability so they hold it back with two people.

St. Cloud is nothing but Somalis and Chicago niggers who tried to escape the crime of Chicago but didn't realize they were the problem.

Knives can get pulled for no reason, nightly fights from Thursday to Sunday in our lobby (depending on the season), people throwing bottles at my car as I drive by.

I make 40-45k/year doing fuck all so I feel dumb complaining but Jesus is this town miserable.

But my feet are comfy in the boots. They have surprisingly good traction. Our lobby is polished concrete kind of thing and I slipped on it all the fucking time but now I don't.

They are really comfy and light.

Lowa are king in my opinion. Started out with magnum's and hated the fucking things, uncomfortable and look like dog shit. Brought a pair of pic related, lasted me 3 years until the tread was wrecked. Brought a new pair and love them even more. They polish up well, look good, comfortable and are totally waterproof. Never buy anything thing with a side zip, it will break after five minutes.

Maybe get some kevlar insoles or make your own.

The sole is thin (zerodrop sole) so your step is natural and it doesn't fatigue your ankles and calves and shit like that.

Heeled boots are fucking retarded when you stop and think about it.
>>
I had a pair of bates tactical boots , they fell apart at a rock concert because i was jumping and moshing the soles actually flopped off.

What the other anon said is probably your best bet unless you get the transition pair, buy those just have more of a heel, I think.

I just got a pair of the boulder boots in. They look like clown shoes but they're so goddamn comfy I stopped caring about how they look. FYI, the black pairs are all cordura, which will accept a wide variety of waterproofing treatments. It won't turn them into rain boots, but they'll shed a fair amount of precipitation.
>>
I bought a pair of this babies, I'm still anxiously waiting for them. How I did?

My mom grew up with a guy who would go on to kill pizza delivery guys.
>he would order the pizza and when they showed up he would kill them.
He killed three delivery guys til someone finally figured out something was fucky.

He got the chair.

one of my dads work buddies did something similar. except he would kill package delivery guys he killed a UPS, Fedex, and a USPS. They caught him after the USPS guy. He hid the bodies under his trailer.

My brother actually met him when he went over to help build a shed. My brother says he was pretty normal and nothing was suspect.

after talking and working with a few deputies apparently a few major crimes are swept under the rug. They purposely dont tell the public because in such a small county i would cause more trouble than it worth.

The most recent one was some guy had killed his girlfriend and kids(one a todler and the other was around 8 or so). Apparently he had cut them up and had been eating them for about a week before cops turned up to investigate a missing persons report filed by her mother and her boss.
