If you actually want the real reason, it's because the Zumwalt has better armor for it's VLS batteries.

Zumwalt has it's VLS in 2 single files, lined up on the outer edge of the hull, then it has an armor plate right behind the missile tubes. While this makes it more likely for hostile fire to hit a VLS tube, the damage is greatly reduced since the single file placement limits the amount of ammo that can be set off, and the outboard placement+armor plate directs the blast outwards and away from the guts of the ship.

Type 55 has conventional VLS placement, which clusters them in 8x8 grids in the middle of the ship. If the VLS takes a hit, all the missiles can brew up and blow the ship apart since it's in the middle of the ship. The advantage is that this arrangement is lighter and more space efficient.
