Hey /k/
Grandfather died a few days ago and left me with this M1 carbine.
Not sure if it has seen combat or not or how old it is. Any Ideas?
Also,

Take care of it. Clean it well.
Here for the upper.
I'll try for a more clear one.
Flash on for poor lighting.

Post-war commercial build by Universal.
Probably has some USGI parts installed on it, but is not an originally issued firearm.

Pretty sure the mag is no good, has been loaded for years.
Any idea where I might get one cheap?

available online. new korean ones are made too.
also, mag is probably fine unless it was loaded and unloaded many many times over the years. just a mad being loaded for years doesn't do shit to it. springs don't work that way.
they only wear out with constant motion, not being stationary for a long period of time

serial number range?

depending on the year of production, it will be pretty close to original, mix and match, or full of completely proprietary bullshit

This.
Try Gunbroker for magazines, and Gunbot for ammo.

My condolences.
Looks like a reproduction. The heat shield above the barrel and the folding stock are non standard parts. Its always possible that someone went a messed with something they shouldn't have, but its also unlikely. Its probably not a collector grade gun, nor saw combat, but should still be a decent shooter. Enjoy it. I'm kicking myself for not picking one up at the last gun show I went to.

they don't wear out over time, generally, just with use.
This is what an original would look like

Choate folding stock.

Not sure if you can see clearly.

It originally had a wood stock/grip, but the wood cracked up pretty bad.
