Canada has just started the program to replace its current frigates with new models. Pre-qualified defense contractors have been given the requirements for the designing of the future Canadian frigates.

Canada is looking for a ship that can keep up with American aircraft carriers, to be able to effectively hunt down enemy submarines and finally properly defend against be able to properly defend against enemy aircraft and missiles.

Considering that other than that the requirements and proposals are to be kept secret, what else do you guys think new Canadian Frigates should have?

I though you guys were going to buy the MEMEKO 200?
>>
>>31812562
>>31812542
>>31812512
Whats the point of this? It's not like you can buy frigates over the internet.
>>
>>31812459
The Fremm is often tossed around as the most likely option, but since it doesn't use American weapons i'm not sure how likely that actually is. Something more like the frigates used by the Danes or Swedes that carry ESSM or SM-2s is more likely. Or maybe one of those Spanish mini-Burkes the Aussies are buying, though I find it unlikely.

There is the MEKO as this anon said >>31812616, but I think it may be a bit too small.
>>
>>31812861
The ANZAC version has a VLS, a 127mm gun, harpoons and mu90 torpedos. But it's a 1000 tons lighter then a Halifax
>>
>>31812459
FREMM +SF5000 Would be perfect for the Canadian Navy.

>>31812512
Damen looks good on sheets, but not proven.

>>31812616
Meko is pathetic man... Just let it die peacefully.
Germans should just stick with submarines making

What's wrong with the current Frigates? We should focus on building supply ships since we currently operate none.

>FREMM
>has no idea what this is; not really a navalfag
>Googles it
Those are nice boats, and they're already in production. I concur.
>>
>>31813161
Fremms are nice boats, but they don't operate American weapons. They could probably be modified to do so, but it'd be extra cost.
>>
I'm sure it'll be a total fucking disaster no matter what happens
>>
>>31812459
Well without knowing the requirements for range, complement, displacement, armament and its precise tasks, it's impossible to say.

Want to buy one off the shelf? DCNS or Damen. Want to join another frigate programme? Type 26 if you want an OP ASW platform, French FTI if you want a multi-mission frigate with a cool Zumwalt bow or ask the Dutch/Belgians to join their quest for a new multi-purpose frigate to replace the Karel Doorman-class.

Or if you want to do it cheap: Iver Huitfeldt-class. Simple hull, cheap propulsion, great sensor suite and weaponry.

>>31813295
That's literally a 10 year project to integrate. I don't even think any third party besides Thales Nederland (APAR + SMART-L) has been allowed to create a sensor suite around the Mk 41 VLS, although the Brits want to put one on the Type 26.
>>
>>31813206

Look at the program's time frame then look at the current ships, they'll all be way past their sell by date.
>>
>>31813244
check the Italian version, it's the tits
>>
>>31813569

>although the Brits want to put one on the Type 26.

Case in point being the big reason for the split over the Horizon / Type-45 was the RN wanting different sensors.
>>
About fucking time they said they wanted to START looking into the project. I remember the requisition was placed in 2012.
>>
>>31814020
The biggest problem of the Canadian Armed forces is with the bureaucratic red tape for new equipment. I asked Harjit Sajjan a while back during a security conference about funding for the Canadian military.

The fact of the matter is that there is a massive amount of cash for different projects that go back before even the conservative administration that are frozen because they haven't finalized the equipment they want. Canada's biggest problem isn't defense spending, it's making sure it doesn't take 8-10 years to replace something as simple as radios.
>>
>>31812861
Sweden doesnt have any frigates, you are thinking about the norwegian navy.
>>
>>31814962
ah well who cares it's not like canada will even exist in 50 years
best thing that can happen is Trump annexes us
>>
>>31815079
well, it's not looking like he'll get in so you'll still need a Navy. That is one of the issues though, the shitty procurement of new systems.

Canadian Type 26.jpg

Worth noting that the competition has been specially legalised to permit the Type 26 into it.

They are VERY interested in that boat, seemingly.

Pic related is the proposed Canadian variant, note the full US silos at the front, implies going with ESSM rather than CAMM on it, but the T26 is designed for that anyway (Mk41 is already a core part, unlike many of the competitors) so it's all good.

Also god tier ASW and a fuckhuge mission bay.
>>
>>31815389
The time frame on that would be a little weird though.
