Questions that don't deserve their own thread, because I didn't see one in the catalog.

I'll start: what's a decent price for an Enfield right now?
>>
If you have to ask you can't afford it sorry op
>>
>>31810845
Fuck off, I've got a grand sitting around and I want an Enfield. I just don't wanna spend every cent like a fucking mongoloid
>>
I got a couple of gen 4 glocks and have been shooting them for 2 years but I want to lighten the trigger pull as I feel it is a bit heavy and affects grouping. Is the 4.5lb connector the fastest and easiest way to achieve this? Any other options I should consider as well??

$100-150 for a sporter of any variant
$300-350 for a Mk.III*
$350-400 for a No.4
$400-450 for a No.5
Metfords or MLEs are higher, I got mine for $1000. 19th century.
>>
>>31811635
Those prices are for Canada as I recall them from around 4 years ago. I doubt they've changed much.
>>

Yeah, non-German Mausers are about the same price as nuggets now.

How the fuck do I get a welded bayonet off a Nugget?

It's in the perfect spot to stab my hand every time I fire and it's California-friendly, so I can't actually use it even if I take it off.

I'll try to take a decent pic in a moment.

>>
>>31811976

It's welded in a fixed position. I guess we have a law based on the length, and this one is too long.
>>
>>31811484
The most important part is the bore. Make sure the rifling is still good and doesn't have too much pitting, especially at the muzzle.

There are parts kits floating around
>>
>>31811849
Well theirs youtube vids about it but the basics are:
>Make sure it doesnt have too much rust on the outside
>Check the bore for sharp and deep rifling and little to no pitting
>Check to make sure the safety works and it will dry fire
>Work the bolt to see how much force you'll need
>Check inside the mag well for rust (This is often neglected by owners)
>And God dammit check under the wood furniture for hidden rust if they'll let you, not a lot of people will.

So how good is the USP 45 as a CC/home defense pistol? Toss up between either that, a Beretta 92fs, or a Kel-Tec PMR-30. I'm leaning toward the USP because

>rise and shine, Dr. Freeman

However, 30 rounds of 22mag ain't nothing to fuck with either. And the Beretta has a proven track record of being reliable.
>>
>>31812640
Me personally I like the Beretta's better, not only because I prefer 9mm over .45acp, but because the weight of the Beretta takes away recoil from the 9mm cartridge. The USP is a nice gun, but all things considered I made this decision and bought a Beretta.
>>
>>31811895
I didn't find that WHERE they were made, made much of any difference.

I bought my No.4 mk.1
For $150 about a month ago
>>
>>31811895
From what I've seen looking around they tend to go for about the same price as a MK III
I'm going to go see one later this week and if it's nice I'll be giving the guy 350 for it+ 50 rounds of ammo and 6 clips
>>
>>31815337
If I'm not mistaken, that's a No.4 Mk.I* with the oldschool method of bolt removal and still has the wartime two-position rear sight. Also, what's the condition of the barrel? Does it have the brass oil can and pull-through still in the buttstock? Does the safety still function (Those can be hit or miss)? Can you cycle through 10 rounds quickly without any hangups caused by the magazine (mags can be a little iffy too if the rifle has been well used over the decades, and it appears to have been)?

Perhaps that's why you got it for $150. That, or maybe the dude just doesn't know modern prices and let it go for $200 or so less than he could have, unknowingly. Either way, even if the bore isn't too good, even with that wartime rear sight, even if there's no botttle/pull-through, and even if the mag feed lips need a little tweaking, $150 for a full-stock No.4 is a good price. A steal.

Why do people post pictures of their funs with pens or knives or anything else through the trigger guard? Is it to prop the gun up or something? I'm new to funs, I don't get it.
>>
>>31817627
It's to prop the gun up and get a better angle. I really don't claim to understand the backwards logic. I've never had an issue taking a photo of my guns, but that's because I use good lighting.
>>
So most modern guns require a break in period to make the parts all meld together correctly and whatnot. Couldn't this be avoided by simply racking and dry firing the weapon a hundred or so times? You're basically simulating normal functioning but without ammo.
>>
>>31811849
non-German Mausers are largely shit though

>>

kek
>>
>>31819094
The Type 81 sin't an AK. It's a vz. 58 and SKS lovechild. They're great guns and reliable. They're extremely rare here in the U.S. with only 20 in 7.62x39mm and 3 in 5.56x45mm.

Also, Chinese guns are very high quality. Here in the U.S. their AKs are highly sought after because of their attention to detail and worksmanship on Chinese firearms.

>>31812058
There really isn't anything remarkable about them. No reason to buy them over a more established striker fired polymer handgun. The grip safety is a stupid throwback, and Springfield tried to position them in a "buy American" sort of marketing, when they're just a rebadged Croatian handgun.
It's hard to compare them favorably even to say, a TP9.

Thinking about selling my rifle, know most stores will fuck me in the ass when it comes to price so I was considering trying my hand online. How easy is it to sell online and what do I need to know/do
>>
>>31819418
As a person who does not have a polymer striker fired pistol but is looking to buy one, what would be my best option? Preferably not a Glock, I'm just not a fan of the grip and trigger and the idea of NO other safety except the trigger kinda irks me. And something on the compact side, not looking for a full size. A Springfield XDm compact fits all those requirements, but are there better options for all those requirements?

>>
>>31819964
My preference is the Walther PPQ M1, for the decent short-reset trigger, though it's hard to really go wrong with any major polymer striker fired handgun. Even the XD isn't strictly a "bad" gun, just a "why would you" gun. Glocks, the VP9, the PPQ, the P99, the M&P the P07, take your pick.

I'm a DA/SA guy and mostly do CZs these days, having owned or fired quite a variety of guns. Someone else can debate the finer points of striker vs striker in better detail. I only own a Glock 36 at this point, which fills a niche in my carry rotation, though I may buy a PPQ M1 in the future.
I advocate the "no safety" carry doctrine. Keep your fingers away from the trigger and the gun is never just going to "go off" on you.

Should I sell my mini and buy an AR. Also does anyone still produce ARs with A2 uppers?
>>
>>31815426
The barrel is in great shape I don't have the oil can but the safety still works. Yes I can empty the magazine quite quickly without any problems from the mag. Shoots like a dream cosmetically it's well used and it looks like it was a Russian capture because it has a star stamped on the receiver and looks like it was stamped with new serial numbers and the wood smells like cosmoline.
>>
Will my standard m4 AR front sight post interfere with a strikefire II with cantilever mount ? How does that work?
>>
>>31821375
I... what? Russian capture? Star? Cosmoline? When on Earth could a Canadian or American-made Lee Enfield from the 1940s end up captured by Russians? Perhaps instead it was captured by the Chinese during the Korean War? I'm at a total loss... as for getting new serial numbers, that might be from a refurbishment. For instance, a No.4 Mk.I/2 was originally a No.4 Mk.I (not with a *(star)), but was turned into a No.4 Mk.2 at some point. The * as seen on Mk.III* SMLEs basically means it's a variant that is a simplified version of the original.

The Mk.III had volley sights, a magazine disconnect, and a rear sight that is adjustable for windage as well as elevation. The Mk.III* (Came about in 1915 because more rifles were needed) had no volley sights, no magazine disconnect, and the rear sight was only adjustable for elevation, along with a few other little alterations to make it cheaper.

As for No.4 Mk.I vs No.4 Mk.I*, I don't know of any difference other than the method of bolt removal. The Mk.I has a push-button bolt removal method, while the Mk.I* is like the Mk.III/Mk.III* in that you just pry at the bolthead until it snaps out of place. Pretty sure during the war, both the No.4 Mk.I and No.4 Mk.I* had two-position rear sights for 300yd (270m) and 600y (540m). That said, if your rifle was refurbished, it would have gotten the ladder rear sight with a 100yd(90m) position, and then with the ladder flipped up you get 200-800yd (180-720m).

Are you sure it's a RUSSIAN star, and not the little asterisk-like thing (*)?

Never owned and AR till recently, and ive owned and used a mini14 for years. I would have been disappointed if I traded the mini for the AR, but I don't see a problem having both. Plus with AR as cheap as they are now, (kit plus lowers is less than $500) keep the mini and get an AR
>>
>>31821457
I'd rather a Mini-14. I've owned an M1 Rifle, an M1 Carbine, and intend to get a Chinese M1A copy (I think they're called M305) for my first .308, so getting a Mini-14 as my first .223 is only logical. Then I will have owned all the most common variants of the Garand-style rotating bolt, which I know and love. Wooden stocks for life.
>>
>>31821402
You can still use the red dot. The front sight will obscure a small portion of your FOV. Most people consider it merely a minor inconvenience, some people actually *prefer* having fixed irons along with red dots.

They also have several different configurations re: safeties so you should be able to find one with whatever combination works for you.

What's the best way to pay for a rifle in store? My debit card has a really strict security feature that shuts down the card if I try to spend more than $300, so do gun stores accept checks? I just don't feel comfortable driving around for 20 minutes with a thousand dollars cash in my pocket, then walking it into the store, even with a pistol on me, but if worst comes to worst that's what I'll have to do.

Any advice?

This.

To my knowledge, the US only made No.4s, and they're in the same category as English or Canadian made No.4s. The Mk.III* was made in England, India, and Australia, as I recall. one of the reasons why Canada adopted the Ross was because England wouldn't allow Lee Enfields to be produced there. Don't really know why; they just demanded Canada buy them from England.

I still stand by my belief that the Ross is a good design; just shitty in muddy conditions. Like the M16, if it was given more time to improve, it would probably eventually become a reliable design, but it was easier to just switch to the tried and true Mk.III* which I think is a better design overall save for accuracy.

There are only a few differences between the Voyager and Regular rifles. The Voyager has a cast metal receiver, the Regular models have a forged receiver. As a range toy, my opinion would be that a cast receiver would serve you fine. There are a few other cost cutting measures employed with the voyager as well, such as no bipod cut, cheaper furniture, no carry handle cut, etc.

Pistols are nice and all, but if its Clinton gun bans you're worried about, you might look into the shit that is the most likely to get banned. The most obvious candidate being an AR15, and other "assault" styled weapons (pistol grips, hi-capacity mags, bayonet lugs, and shoulder things that go up).

They may not accept a personal check unless you let them hold the rifle until the check cashes, which not very one will do. They may accept a cashiers check from the bank, just call them and ask what are acceptable methods of payment. Another option is to tell your bank you are making a larger purchase and to not shut your card down.

I have shot several mags through one in 243 win. I was sub MOA consistently. And it's an AK.

Cons are hard to find parts and hard to find mags.

A well-kept rifle with one mag is probably around a grand, more if there are extra mags.

Why would there be something wrong with your SKS? $200 is a pretty standard price in Canada as I recall from 4 years ago. $185 for Chinese, and $215 for Russian, give or take. People were starting to sell then for $250 by advertising that they came with the cleaning kit in the buttstock, an ammo pouch, a sling, an oil can with its own little leather pouch, and so on. Most $200 SKSs came with that though, save for perhaps the oil can and MAYBE not the ammo pouch but sling and cleaning kit seemed pretty standard.

Also, gorgeous example, but really? $400? That's pretty damn steep for a Mk.III*, especially for what looks to be one made post-WWI, even if it does look that beautiful. That's my opinion as a Canadian though, and we have all kinds of Lee enfields up here of different models. I'd figure that one to be worth $350, with $300 being a steal, but $400 is getting pricy for sure.

It's not welded.

This

I had the same problem with my nugget, those bayonets are FUCKING hard to get off. What happens is the cosmoline gets in between the barrel and the bayonet and then kinda dries up and gets sticky in there. That+classic Ivan craftsmanship means that bayonet does not want to come off.

Here's what I did.

First and foremost,
Clean all the cosmoline you can get off of the fucking thing. I soaked the tip of the barrel and the bayonet (submerging what you took a picture of) in mineral spirits. That can help with the cosmoline a bit. Another option is to use a heat gun if you have one. It loosens up the cosmoline inside and the bayonet fastener thing expands a little as it gets hot.

Next,
you're going to want to get some WD40 and spray it into the space between the barrel and the bayonet. Try and get it into the groove, even if there's a very tiny amount of space. It all helps.

You're going to want to take the bolt out of your nugget, (put it aside) and wrap the rifle in towels. Find a ledge and sit on top of your nugget to hold it steady, with the bayonet off the ledge.

Next, get a mallet or hammer, and a philips screwdriver. Put a piece of cloth on your barrel (so you don't gouge the fuck out of it) and place the screwdriver on the little edge where the bayonet fastener meets the barrel.

GENTLY tap all around the bayonet holder. Try to gently push it off the barrel, bit by bit. If it's not moving, give it some more love with the tapping, Chris brown style.

Keep tapping harder and harder until it moves off. Once it does, you'll want to take a little bit of metal off the inside of the bayonet fastener thing in order to make it fit the barrel a little better.

Best of luck anon!
>>

See, this is why I don't bother with ARs. They're so fucking unreliable.

Alright, just kidding, nobody can say that with any serious post-1967 or whenever the fuck the M16A1 came out and fixed a lot of the glaring problems with the XM16. I was just thinking... what's going to be the state of the AR15 in a decade? I mean, the US isn't going to use the M16 and M4 forever; they're inevitably going to adopt something else, and then the hype will be all about THAT rifle. I believe that when the US adopts a new rifle, the interest in the AR15 is going to plummet, and the market will be FILLED with customized AR15s up for sale in the hopes to get enough money to buy a civilian version of that new rifle.

So I believe in perhaps a decade, maybe 2 at most, the AR15 will be to America what the SKS is to Russia. It will be EVERYWHERE, it will be CHEAP, and honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if people start to look at it in the light of the age it truly is. I mean right now it's still in service BIGTIME! The AR15's M4 and M16 counterparts are still going strong as fuck, but what about when the day comes that they're NOT in service anymore? Not in first world nation's hands, anyways. What then? What about when they day comes where it's just another firearm out there who's original design is 60+ years old? When people look at picture of individuals suited up with all their AR gear in the same light as WWII commandos suited up with their Thompson gear? Looking at it like it's outdated and old.

I dunno, maybe it won't be until we've got grandchildren before the AR15 is looked at in such a light, but for some reason, I think something big is going to happen to the AR/M4/M16 family within the next decade, and it'll change the way Americans look at it, as well as change its status on the market.

I've never thrown a live grenade, so I'm not entirely sure as to how powerful or large the explosion usually is. My question is, what would the results be if I held a live grenade either against my head or put it in my mouth and set it off. Of course I'd die, but how much of my head would it take with it. Would it be an instantaneous death or would it just kind of blow my jaw off (if in mouth) or blow my face off and leave my brain somewhat intact giving me a slow painful death?
I've only got crappy video footage such as pic related to go off of for now and I can't really tell how much damage the blast would actually do. Any help would be much appreciated.

Normally I use CLP and a little bottle of regular Hoppes lube for my guns, but I found this spray bottle of silicone lube (like pic related). Can I use this in place of regular lube for my guns? Are there any drawbacks? I'm sure it's not dangerous or anything, but is it longer lasting or anything? Mine says it leaves a dry film, which I assume is a good thing, as it will still lubricate even when the spray dries up. Am I wrong or do you guys use this stuff? It's a lot easier to just hose down what I want to lube up than work at it with a rag and liquid lube.

So with a gasmask how do you store it and how long do filters last if you just keep the gas mask ready to go with the filter screwed on?
>>
>>31822588
I second this. You can get them with a magazine safety and a manual safety, or any combination. Also stellar customer service
>>
>>31846360
Depends on what's in the filters. Probably not longer than a few weeks. Filters need to be kept sealed in an air tight container, because they still filter and degrade even when you're not breathing through them. More specialized filters wear out faster, but they all will degrade to the point of uselessness if left out and open.
>>
>>31846800
So get a spare filter to keep sealed and one to keep on the mask just for fun?

Depends on which SKS you get. Some of the Yugos are fairly accurate. The Chinese have chromed bores and lots of wear. My unissued Yugo is about a 2moa gun with most ammo. 7.62x39 is not very fast at the muzzle and not particularly efficient at flying through the air. Really the limiting factor is the iron sights which are good to about 100 yards, maybe a little further, given the right shooter and right ammo.

In all honesty, the SKS is a solid shooter. There's not much difference in the 7.62x39 ammo from Russia despite it coming in FMJ, soft point and hollow point. The jackets are hard and they don't deform very well. You can find ammo from other manufacturers but I always wonder if it's .308 diameter instead of the correct .311 diameter.

All that being said, it's a great starter rifle and a lot of fun in the woods. Ammo makes it a not very good hunting rifle unless you really spend some time finding the right ammo instead of just blasting cheap Russian ammo. With good ammo it would take everything up to a deer. If you want to hunt there are better alternatives.

They are especially good at taking out shit talking watermelon, hornets nests and just about any other plinking activity you could want. It's especially satisfying to bayonet your melon foe and then shoot him off. Wearing the sticky, sweet blood of your kill for the rest of the day is a great way to make memories.
>>
>>31847719
the only difference iirc is that .308 is loaded slightly hotter than military 7.62x51, meaning a gun chambered in .308 can shoot both but a gun listed as 7.62x51 you might want to be wary.

honestly not a problem either way, ive never heard of anyone screwing up a fucking battlerifle by accidentally shooting slightly hotter .308.
>>

Hes literally right, the SAMMI/CIP maximum pressure for the .308 Win cartridge is 62,000 psi, while the 7.62x51 max is 50,000 psi.

No funs choosing on first handgun as start of the arsenal/collection. I've settled on a ruger, either the 9E or SR40. The reason it's between the two is because local laws only allow magazines of 15 and under, meaning that with the 40 there wouldn't be an issue with mag size, but the 9mm would be limited to 10.

Good deals notwithstanding, would it be better to get the SR40 and not have to worry about the limitation, or save a hundred or so bucks with the 9E at purchase and buy 17 round mags when I move in 1-5 years?

(It would mainly be used as a range gun for target practice and recreation)
