My brother ran off and did it his senior year of college. He stayed for about a year and then deserted due to poor leadership, underfunding and general enlisted military bullshit. They were also getting zero action at the time, which is why he joined in the forst place. He got some good stories out of it but overall said it wasn't worth it.
