Vast majority of guns are overrated. There is NOT A SINGLE GUN on the commercial market that lives up to the sensationalism that is regurgitated by gun owners.

By the time a gun is tested enough to know the limits of the platform in all manner of conditions, it's grown beyond itself into a symbol of a conflict or period in history, conflating the thing itself with our contemporary perception of people we might admire or idealize in history ie: M1 Garand, AK-47, Colt Peacemaker, Glock.

Marginal cases are ones that have been in circulation long enough to be really tested to understand the strengths and limitations, but absent from any popularized notion of military history or the history of conflict. This depreciates their cachet as a historical artifact or object representative of some conflict that we might be invested in (ie: Commonwealth fags beating off to Lee Enfields). This would be something like an SKS or K31. Still these marginal cases are still overhyped- indicated by the debate over how much they're "really worth".

Otherwise, guns that aren't overrated might be something like the Type 81 purely because it's not in circulation in any appreciable amount, and the number of people with first-hand experience in the English-speaking world might only number in the hundreds (if that). They can't be overrated because nobody knows anything, and nobody really cares or has any emotional investment either way.
