Not him, but it doesn't take much. When I was planning a 10mm SBR I found 11" to be the best barrel length. After that, the increased speed was at too great of a cost of length, but below that, you gave up lots of velocity.

OP here. I have what I feel is the best answer and was hoping you guys would get close to my own conclusion.
Here are some hints:
Bullpup is probably the best configuration, but increases complexity of the gun. It also forces some design constraints which may or may not be favorable.
Personally, I find the machine pistol format to be the easiest and best starting point. That is, magazine in grip as opposed to in front of grip. This makes the gun about as compact as it can be without having the action behind the trigger.
Normal pistol rounds are not going to cut it since why not just use your pistol. Special snowflake rounds are better here.
Simple conversion of an existing platform would provide the best results with minimal specialized tooling.

I should have made the title ultimate civie CCW PDW, I guess. I am not opposed to bag carry, so the SKS/PS90 could work, but they are still pretty big.

"Machine pistol" form factor usually allows it to fold like the TP9 or at least collapse like the MP7. IMO this is one major reason to stay away from bullpups, at least for this design.

With the 20 round mag, it came in at 10.2 lbs.

It's a "SGWorks" SKS bullpup kit (with real 512 Eotech). The p90 grip was stolen off a $30 airsoft P90. Holds up fine, but if it breaks, who gives a fuck, I can still manage.

A P90 that fires a scaled/cut-down version of those straight-wall 5.56 rounds.
Apparently it has similar performance to the bottle-necked version, so you can probably get similar or better performance to 5.7x28 out of that.
On top of that, you'd get even more than 50 rounds per magazine.

No, P90 system changed to gas operated instead of blowback and chambered in telescoping 5.56 or larger. Top rail extends all the way from front to back so there's space for traditional optics. Ambidextrous side rotating magazine that can flip in and out to either side, wing tabs on the side of the mag help in pushing it down to lock it.

But now its no longer a PDW and is now an advanced bullpup rifle, but fuck it its the future.
