Battle Rifle General
/brg/
The "B&T will have a battle rifle released before DTi does!" Edition
>>
>>31800008
Damn shame nobody here but Boof will ever touch either one...
>>
>>31800025
$3k, not that expensive
>>
>>31800008
...and it'll probably cost 2x what a SCAR goes for so nobody will buy it anyway.

There is a hot market for a 600-1.5k battle rifle, and it is tough to design and build something to fit that price range but it can be done.
>>
>>31800050
3k isn't that bad but it puts it in direct competition with the SCAR and LMT .308s, and it is significantly costlier than DSA FALs and forged M14geries.

That is a price bracket where they will only get a few sales unless the gun really stands out head and shoulders above the rest and has some cowadoodee "specops totes uses this shit" provenance to sell it.
>>
>>31800083
Does Switzerland have speshulforces?
>>
>>31800008
Reminder that the SCAR isn't actually a battle rifle. :(
>>
>>31800170
To the extent that they use battle rifles they'd probably be using the older SIG 510s, even if they do use this particular design they probably wouldn't see much action.

The SCAR sells in part because it's genuinely a very good rifle, in part because it's expensive and moneybags love to show off and in part because some genuinely scary operators operated with them operationally in operations inna sandbox. That means that for the money spent you not only have a nice rifle, but you get to impress random strangers on the range and if you close your eyes you too can imagine yourself as being some kind of special forces badass fucking up ISIS.

Are you? Probably not.
Is it stupid? Kinda.
Does it factor in as a reason why people buy these kinds of guns? You bet it does.

It's not really a bad thing. People collect milsurp for the same reason. But it means that this particular rifle lacks a selling point that other rifles like it already have. When that much money is being spent, it becomes a real tie-breaker. I think it can compete and win a lot of sales at a lower price point, but at 3k forget it.

The SCAR is a lightweight rifle, a DMR is an accurized rifle designed for precision use. You may want to reference the mk20 for what a SCAR based DMR would be

It really isn't all that important, but that's the general definition that's been used in this thread to help sort things out since there really isn't a set definition of battle rifle. That guy is just being overall autistic about it.

>>31801328
My hound likes that fox. :^)
>>
>>31800938
>otherwise there's no difference between DMRs, battle rifles

That's because there is no difference. "Battle Rifle" describes the characteristics of a particular firearm. "Designated Marksman Rifle" describes the role in which that particular firearm is used.

Any battle rifle can be a "DMR" when it's used by a designated marksman. Just the same as any Remington 700 can be a "sniper rifle" if it's being employed by an actual sniper.

TL;DR: Your shit's all fucked up and you're retarded. The SCAR-H is a battle rifle, deal with it faggot.
>>
>>31801353
So then what is the kel tec RFB classified as?
>>
>>31801400
>"Battle Rifle" describes the characteristics of a particular firearm.
One of the characteristics is being general issue.

>Any battle rifle can be a "DMR" when it's used by a designated marksman.
But a DMR isn't a battle rifle unless it was general issue. Think of it like all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares.

>>31801408
Trash.
>>
>>31801431
>One of the characteristics is being general issue.

Except it's literally not.

No where is "general issue" found in any definition of term "battle rifle" other than the inane bullshit criteria you've made up in your head.

And for what it's worth, you can't even define "general issue" because guess what, the Mk17 is generally issued to SOCOM. Perhaps you need to further refine your asinine terminology.
>>
>>31800642
muzzle blast will be the main drawback there

11th and 12th words there friend. You even clicked on the link. I think you're the one being asinine now if you really are pretending to not know the meaning of general issue. The FAL, G3, M14, AR10, SG510, etc were all used as the general issue service rifle for a military at some point. The SCAR wasn't.

Also: >using wikipedia as a source

>>31801580
This definition has been pretty well established in these threads for a while. Even sakuya agreed with it. Sorry that you're so new that you don't realize that.
>>
>>31801613
>the SCAR isn't a service rifle
>is literally issued by the US Military

You are so far up your own ass I don't even know why I'm responding to this drivel.
>>
>>31801660
Sure it's issued, but it's not standard.
>>
>>31801725

It's LITERALLY listed right on the Service Rifle page you screen capped you fucking autist.
>>
>>31801802
That's the only county where it lists what the special forces use and not just the standard issue rifle for the military as a whole. It takes a real autist to edit wikipedia to try and win an argument.
>>
>>31801830

SOCOM is the size of most other countries entire militaries. The SCAR is standard issue for them. It's a service rifle.

You can keep going on trying to further make exception to every accepted definition of the term and get BTFO every time as you have repeatedly. Or you can just accept the fact that your autistic as fuck and nobody gives a shit about your special snowflake dictionary.
>>
>>31801947
>SOCOM is the size of most other countries entire militaries
You're the one moving goal posts here friend. I'm just sticking to the threads established definition, I'm sorry your favorite rifle doesn't match up with it. It's a great rifle, just not a battle rifle.
>>
>>31800572
I like the M14 for the same reason I like the Mini-14. I dig the action, it feels comfortable, it works well and is pleasant to shoot.
They aren't the best at anything, but they are pretty good and I think people should buy a decent gun they like rather than an "objectively better" gun they don't like as much.
>>31800642
It's a little silly, but offset by the sheer cool factor. But why not get a 16" and save yourself some headache?
>>31801802
>>31801830
>>31801725
Look, we can argue about this whole "service rifle" aspect, but it's not a great definition because it's non-technical.

For our purposes we're talking semi-automatic or select-fire rifles in a full-power caliber. Both of those properties are quantifiable and technical. Military service can be vague and as the person asking about the RFB pointed out, this definition can leave out a rifle that could function as a BR but misses the qualification due to not being used as one. It quacks like a duck, so why not call it one?

Also, if we wanted to be really autistic then the DSA FALs, PTR-91s and M1As that most people own and discuss in BRG don't count either. They are derived from military designs and may indeed use some surplus parts in their construction, but since they aren't built to their original military specifications they are not military service rifles either. They are sporting rifles built off a military design.
>>
>>31801978
>if you use the third synonym of this cherrie picked definition you'll rabbit hole into criteria fitting my personal bias

How many wiki pages do you think I can get away with editing?
>>
>>31802045
Nigga, I never denied that SOCOM or whatever other special forces you want to mention used it. I denied that it's a standard issue weapon for any military, which is true.
>>
>>31802064
So what you're saying is, that if I bought a commercial spec SCAR-H, it would be a [insert whatever here].

Then if the next week Greece decided to replace their G3s with SCAR-H rifles that are select-fire, my civilian SCAR-H would magically become a battle rifle.

Is this correct by your logic?
>>
>>31802088
Yes, because then it would be standard issue for a military.
>>
>>31802088
>>31802101
Let me clarify, it would be a civilian version of a battle rifle. Which would be good enough for this thread.

>Recipe plox
This is the recipe I use for pastry/pie crusts:
http://www.simplyscratch.com/2010/11/how-to-a-perfect-pie-crust.html
But I substituted cold sour cream rather than cold water to see how it would taste (damn good as it turns out). Also, if you like your turnovers poofy (I don't but YMMV) add 1/2tsp of baking soda to the flour before you fold in the butter. Then you form it into balls about 2" in diameter and then roll them out.

The filling is easy; just peel and slice up some fresh apples and cut them into small chunks, pile them on one half of the rolled-out dough, sprinkle some sugar and spice on them (typical apple spice mix is like 1Tbsp Cinnamon, 1tsp nutmeg, 1tsp allspice, 1/2tsp clove, 1/4tsp cardamom; make it in an empty shaker and keep handy). Then you fold the empty half over the full half and roll the bottom edge over the top edge and crimp it together. Bake on a grease or parchment-covered baking sheet at 375°F for 20-30mins or until golden on top. Remove and allow to cool.

For the caramel, I use this easy wet method, substituting milk and a little more butter for the heavy cream.
http://www.completelydelicious.com/2014/10/how-to-make-caramel-two-ways.html
Once the caramel is finished and starting to cool and thicken, pour it onto the cooled turnovers, then throw the turnovers in the fridge or freezer to make the caramel set fast.

.308 ARs not being standardized isnt a problem. It just means if you want to modify the rifle you need to check first. But humans are lazy as fuck.

FAL is probably the best answer, but the correct answer today is anything you can that doesn't suck, and your not getting raped on price.

You can find some deals, but you need to quick. Stay alert for when things come in stock, order immediately.

Picture unrelated.

>>
>>31806588
Stop the ruckus, faggots, every one of those is a nice weapon and kills just as reliably as the other.

Though Soviet manufacturing always sucked, for different reasons at different times - sometimes it's because they've killed their specialists after the revolution or they defected, sometimes it's because mass production volume made individual defects inevitable and tolerable, sometimes it's because mass corruption made it possible to pass QA. Right now you're overpaying for Russian made stuff because of all those sanctions, and the only reason their stuff still sells is because it's considered a novelty.

How does whether or not a shitty bullet will penetrate shitty steel have to do with what's a battle rifle or not?

All I know about them is FAL, Scar, and Garand anybody give me some advice willing to spend between $1,500-$2,000 if your gonna recommend me one to own. Any advice or more options would be nice to know. Also are there any Russian Battle rifles??? Just curious.

.308 and 7.62x54R ak derivatives exist, chiefly Veprs.
>>
>>31810135
Stop playing COD. That's not what FMJ means.

62gr 5.56 typically has a steel or tungsten piece inside. Depending on who you talk to, it's either for "going green by eliminating the amount of lead in the bullet" or its for penetrating armor. I'm not going to get into that as it's a sketchy topic and BATFE as well as anti-gunners monitor /k/.

7.62x51 typically does not(surplus anyways, cheaper steel cased ammo kinda does though). There are some by-metal rounds in use, but it's a softer, mild steel core. Won't really go through shit. This is done for reduction of the use of lead. Pure and simple. Lowers cost per round. Perfect example is surplus nugget food. It has a steel core, but won't penetrate a Ford 302 flywheel where a 62gr will go through like it's nothing.

55gr 5.56 differs though in that it's a fast fucking round. 3000+ fps. It's using speed to achieve metal penetration.

I'd recommend you wait till January before buying, election panic, end of year taxable inventory, and holiday buying will have burned out, resellers and restocking will be in full force, which means lower prices and more options. Also SHOT releases sometimes occur and you might find something you like.

FTFY. To meaningfully exceed the M1A's ability in target shooting, hunting, and combat you'd need 2-3 separate rifles, all but one of which would be manual action. They're actually a pretty good deal if you don't have a lot invested into the AR platform already.

My sig716 has been pretty solid honestly. Downside is the proprietary parts and it's a bit on the heavy side at 10lbs unloaded, but the thing is a tack driver. Just make sure it's a gen2 716 if you buy it used, the gen1s had buffer and feeding problems.

Your mother is equipped for and shares attributes with a whore but isn........
Bad example, sorry

What I'm getting at is that what you consider a word to mean does t have any value as to what it actually means. Specifically in this case, Battle Rifles are fed from detachable magazines.

And what it "was made for" is irrelevant. Remington 700s were made to be durr guns, yet got made into sniper rifles.

I asked Squid for his autograph when I saw him at Walmart. You know what that little fucker did? He pulled down his pants infront of the entire store, infront of my kids! He then took a can of peas and hit my 6 year old daughter in the fucking head with it and started yelling some shit about summoning something while taking a dump on the floor. I picked up my daughter and was making sure she was ok and when I turned around Squid was pissing on his shit. He plopped down on the ground and started to rub the piss shit on his dick then ran over and smacked me with his shit and piss covered dick and said it was his autograph. Then he started to chase people with his shit covered dick and when the police showed up he had no pants on, covered in shit and was acting like nothing happened. The fucker was just walking down isle 4 looking at breakfest cereal and he told the cops that I attacked him and that he has PTSD from playing the combat simulator Call of Duty. So the cops arrested me, took my daughter to CPS and towed my fucking car.

Seriously fuck that guy.

>Mags that cost more than SCAR mags
>Good value
>>
>>31840970
Is $35 a lot of a battle rifle mag?
>>
>>31840980
Considering most have been around for 100 years the surplus mags can be found for like $1 a piece. So yes, that's expensive.
>>
>>31840490
the Aimpoint PRO/ACO is a better buy

>>31840980
It is on the higher side. If your going to for a full battle rattle kit, your going to get what, MAYBE 9 mags total. Who cares. Some people like to have 20, or 50, or 100 mags sitting around. Loaded. Just in case. With $30-40 mags, harder to swing that.

Im just saying that if your going in it for pure price to performance, you need to look at laying in spare parts, and mags too.

Swedes and Norwegians love Aimpoints. If you put a Comp M4 or a PRO on the lowest-possible mount on the welded rail you can get close to lower 1/3rd co-witness. The Microdots work too.

Well m14 competition shooters generally had three identically setup rifles.

1. The one you shoot at the match
2. The one you shoot at the match when #1 goes down
3. Last matches #1 rifle that is at the gunsmith getting repaired, and of course a fresh bedding
