>Noguns here, should I buy an Stg 44 in .22lr?
as your first gun, absolutely not, it's a meme novelty

get some practical guns before memes

i believe they go for $600~
>>
>>31799290

How is it not practical? It's chambered in .22lr. It's good practice to prevent flinching and it looks like a he'll of a lot of fun. I'm not going to buy some savage arms bullshit
>>
>>31799320
expensive, heavy, less reliable, magazines are expensive and hard to find, cleaning/stripping is probably a pain, sights aren't great

you could get other .22s that would perform better for half the price
>>
>>31799290
This.

I bought a GSG-5 as my first .22 auto rifle, watched it basically fall apart in my hands after about 1500 rounds, and traded it for a 10/22.

.22 versions of guns are 99% junk

You could get something in .223/5.56- low recoil for practice, reasonably cheap ammo (admittedly not as cheap as .22lr), and it will "grow" with you a bit better.
>>
>>31799205

200$ SKS + 330$ 1500 rounds of Chinese Surplus.

Done.
>>
>>31801246
Reloading insist as cheap as you might think. I'd only look into it when you started shooting hunting/precision rifles.
>>
>>31801246
>7.62x39
You can't reload surplus cases; the metallurgy is totally different.

You could reload commercial brass, though. The only way this would be worth it is if the world's supply of x39 has finally run dry, and the only thing that's left is commercial ammunition.

>9mm
Shit's so cheap that reloading it is almost a waste of time.

>.22lr
Can't reload rimfire.

>.223
See 9mm.

I would only reload if you're dealing with obscure or expensive calibers.
>>
>>31802059
Reloading x39 is shitty even with brass case because the sks throws them far and usually dents them pretty good
>>
The lock on my stack-on broke with the key in it. I could open/close the cabinet but couldn't get the key out. I took it apart from the inside, and it just fell apart in my hands, a few broken pieces.

I emailed customer service and they mailed out a lock to me without any hassles, just wanted my key number. Hopefully it shows up quickly though.

First of all do yourself a favour and stop listening to everything those faggots proclaim. There's not going to be any form of 'race war' or whatever any time soon, here or elsewhere. That being said it's not a bad idea to have an innawoods gun for general hunting, plinking etc anyways, and for that purpose an SKS and a few crates of ammo would be my pick. Shoot it stock for a while and then figure out what you want to do with it, heaven forbid you feel like dressing it up in tapco. Either that or save up for a VZ if you get bitten by the tactical bug.

Pretty much your only option is a 10/22, which if you go by what the RCMP says, can't have more than 10 rounds in a magazine. That being said I don't think anyone is paying heed to their opinion, at least none of the shops around here have stopped selling 'high capacity' mags and all that.

it's only bad if you buy literal garbage like norinco, or your collection adheres to quantity over quality (anyone with more than 1 sks)
>>
>>31813447
what's wrong with having more than one sks?

our options for guns are extremely limited in canada, so people having more than one to split the wearing out kinda makes sense, especially considering how quickly the price of skses is going up

>>
>>31813462
>what's wrong with having more than one sks?
in theory, nothing.

but if you have a collection of say, 5 rifles, and that looks something like type 97, keltec w/e, & sks x3, then it sort of looks like you have a problem with saving up money to buy something of reputable quality. anyone who says they don't care about handguns or they don't want an AR15 shouldn't be allowed to have a license.
>>
>>31813498
That's why I bought an SVT-40, and I'm really resisting buying an SKS.
>>
>>31813507
>anyone who says they don't care about handguns or they don't want an AR15
this is ridiculous

a lot of people have no interest in firing ranges and i don't blame them, going to the range is about 5% as fun as shooting innawoods

also a lot of places don't even have a decent range

as far as non restricted guns go there's not many options
>>
>>31810505
>Also, need I point out that if it was democratic in nature, and had a fucking constitution to ensure people's rights, there's nothing that wrong with a 'one-world government'.

$150 stock
>omg magazines need 5
$150s on mags
>omg needs scope
$100 mount, $400 optic

And they just keep dumping money into a $200 gub
>>
>>31813537
Every gun owner should own an AR-15 for the same reason gun rights are enshrined in the American constitution.

So a tyrannical government can't fuck your ass.
>>
>>31813507
why should I give a shit if stuffy cunts think my guns are "quality"?
my sks has a chrome bore and shoots 1 moa in a vice. it's overbuilt as hell and has no issues cycling. the only thing wrong with the rifle is the shitty plug in the magazine.

type 97s are a gamble and have horrid ergonomics, I can't stand them but I wish I could

kel-tec is fine and you're literally a snob if you don't like kel-tec guns. The SU-16 is underbuilt and needs a redesign, but all their other guns are good.

I want AR-15s but I don't like registering rifles. Handguns are super fun and plenty of fun guns can be had for little money. High end bling handguns cost the same as "entry level" new production rifles like the Vz. 58 or Type 97. Reliable and accurate pistols can be bought for the price of an SKS or Mosin Nagant.

you're like one of those people who buys macs or alienware computers believing that spending more for hardware with the same specs means it's better quality. if it goes bang every time, puts the bullet on target and fits in the hand it's a quality gun.

>>31813736
$1000 for a reliable semi-automatic rifle with 5 ten round magazines, a folding stock and an optic. I challenge you to find a less expensive weapon with equal or greater functionality. If he started with a Vz. 58 he'd have blown the budget before buying any accessories, and a SCAR costs three times the budget. Most of the "tactical" stocks and optic mounting options for the SKS are garbage though.

>>31813846
>you're like one of those people...
na. I build my own pcs, and I don't go poorfag mode on those either.

the irony with the example you use is that being content with cheap guns because "they're good enough" yet passively hating things that are more expensive+functionally superior is the exact same mentality people have when they rationalise being a console gamer or buying a prebuilt pc.

sks are fun because they are cheap, and the ammo is cheap. there is little to no justification for spending hundreds of dollars ie. >>31813736 to rice one out, or for buying multiples "just because you can". if you do, you're a retard, but feel free to continue, just because you can. also, nuggets are shit svts are shit. keltecs have never been not shit. chinkshit adheres loyally to its name.

with your response to >>31813736, you show you're still oblivious to the concept of saving money for nice things and instead you're the kind of guy that would dump $10000 of 'upgrades' into a 1995 civic.

Noguns noob without a PAL here, and I have a stupid question

Should I a flintlock?

Cabela's sells them for less than $600 Trudollars, I wouldn't need a PAL (and I'm not sure I want to be on a federal list of gun owners because I don't trust them), the storage and handling regulations are much simpler and less harsh...From what I've read, other than the obvious issues with being a muzzle loader; a flintlock seems good for a SHTF gun. Since I live in BC I'm in the risk zone for a mega quake and would like a way to hunt if everything goes to shit.

You could get an antique cartridge rifle or revolver, and learn to reload. That would be a more reliable firearm for SHTF hunting/self-defense. PS Militaria has a bunch of Remington Rolling Block rifles in .50-70, which is easy to reload for (blackpowder only).

what you want is a friend who owns one, because it really is only fun the first time.

not worth the hassle/cost of learning to clean/load/maintain. for that same amount of money you can get your RPAL and buy an SKS.
>>
>>31814077
some of your arguments are true, however the main reason people don't buy ARs is because they prefer shooting innawoods or ranges are not even an option

as far as non restricteds go the high end options are rip offs (tavor, xcr, swiss, acr)

so i can understand why a guy would rather just buy a few SKS's he can split the wear on that will last him many years of shooting

>>
>>31814339
guy in question did not justify the hypothesised shitty collection with any constraints related to shooting locations. it's a fair argument until you call something like the SG 550 a rip off. you have you accept the reality of the "non-restricted tax" or else you're not allowed to use the AR15's restricted status as a reason against owning one.

unless you live in the GTA, I won't believe anyone who says they don't have any decent ranges around.

>cleaning/stripping is probably a pain

I still agree it is very impractical as a 9lb .22, but I thought I would clear up any misconseptions.

ranges in general are shit though compared to the freedom of shooting innawoods

being around that many people and the hectic nature of it, ROs running around watching you like a hawk, it doesn't make for that enjoyable of an experience

waiting forever for target changes is awful too

as far as the "non restricted tax" a lot of people are simply not willing to spend $3500+ on a gun, that's not justifiable to most people unless they make a lot of money, or have no responsibilities/live with thier parents/no kids etc, so it's not surprising people opt to buy a few cheap surplus rifles instead

Trudeau doesn't really give a shit one way or the other, which is part of the problem. He'll just let the RCMP have its way. On CGN, there are various rumors that have varying degrees of credibility on what is going to happen. Given the 10/22 and Beowulf mag decisions, I think it's safe to say that it will involve more rules around mags.

Keep an eye for December 6th, that's the date we need to worry about.

first gun? buy a russian sks. one should be enough, autists will tell you otherwise.

after that, just save up and buy what ever handgun you've always wanted. glock, HK, FN, S&W, whatever. handguns are fun. there's no way there isn't one you'd want.

third purchase for me was a AR15. some people like to build their own, ordering part by part. I can see the fun in that but the cost-saving incentive to do so isn't there for us like there is for americans. I bought a daniel defense mk18. I considered buying a sg550 or a valmet as well, it was mainly a preference thing and I don't limit myself to shooting innawoods. At this point you'd do well to get any rifle significantly above the quality of old russian surplus/chinkshit/low budget brands. It's good to have high standards, so set them early.

membership at Silverdale, probably the most popular range in Ontario, is $300/yr. You must pay them an addition $80 for a 'club level handgun safety course' for the privilege of being able to shoot your restricted's. then come rules like mandatory eye protection, no rapid fire (2+ seconds between shots minimum), etc.

it gets better the farther away from the GTA you go, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't get worse.

Theres actually a certain style of sear that is no longer being imported. When that happened the rcmp put out a notice and the fuddtastic fudd that was in charge of loss prevention and firearm policy made us go through the 90 we had in stock and pop the triggers out 1 by 1 and check which style sear the gun had. The guns with the qrong sear went back to the importer (sterling cross iirc at that time) who re exportes them.

Fun fact, the sks's that we have in canada are grade A (or supergrade depending on the importer) most of the b's go to 2nd world countries and the c's go to shitholes. When an inporter buys a lot they actually sort them then get them shipped over here. Lots of refinishing happens before they show up. Ive seen 1950s russians with "made in russia" electro penciled onto the barrel.

I don't hate them, I'm just a cheapass. I like fine guns quite a bit, I just don't hate on the cheap and functional ones. When it comes to guns I believe in quantity AND quality.

>buying an expensive prebuilt rifle is equivalent to building your own PC
no, buying an expensive prebuilt rifle is equivalent to buying an expensive prebuilt PC like HP or Dell's enterprise boxes.

>oblivious to the concept of saving money for nice things and instead you're the kind of guy that would dump $10000 of 'upgrades' into a 1995 civic.
I can already afford to buy the "nice things", I'm very good at saving money. I mostly like oddities so I'm not going to pay 3 grand for a gun unless it's a modernized FG42 or something like that. I wish I bought an MG34 when they were still 3000 dollars. The civic analogy doesn't hold up because a 1995 civic is beat to shit, while a 1951 SKS can still be had in pristine condition. If you could buy a perfectly preserved 1950s car for $2000, would you?

all the ranges here are busy as fuck and have annoying ROs

there's only a couple outdoor ranges, and most are shotgun/handgun only, some are just shotgun only

there's pretty much only one long distance, and it's horribly crowded, and has 30 minute target changes

if you want to zero a rifle it could literally take you days at that range, and it's going to get shut down soon because of urban expansion into the area

this tool looks like a terrible idea

aside from the fact that HP rounds for a tokarev seem like a sketchy concept to begin with, there are serious issues with this tool itself

hp rounds are made to expand and fragment, structurally they aren't the same thing as a fmj with a hole in it.
when a hole is drilled in a standard fmj bullet there is a huge chance of the lead core blowing through the jacket, when fired
1. the jacket stays in the barrel
2. semi action chambers the next round
3. you obliviously pull the trigger
4. ???
5. PROBLEMS
>>
>>31824924
pretty sure all tokarev ammo is steel core - not sure what difference that would make though

i don't really know why you'd want jhps for your tokarev anyways
>>
>>31824949
steel core would probably be even more likely to yield that effect.

and I'm with you on the sketchiness of someone's reasoning for going out of their way and trying to get the very uncommon hp tokarev round in the first place.

I stood over the cabinet and peeled the door off with my bear hands when i discovered the break in

I don't mean to be a dick, I'm sorry you got robbed, hope you had insurance or at least didn't have anything very expensive
just trying to figure out how it happened, since like you said, people always tell horror stories of automatically slapped with unsafe storage charges -- basically blaming the victim if you think about it, essentially saying if criminals managed to steal them, that means you didn't protect your firearms well enough

>>

It's not illegal but it's ill advised, since you're probably going to get charged and have your life ruined in the process of being exonerated.

If I thought it was my only chance for survival I'd use a gun, but if I can subdue an intruder with a chair I'd do that first.
>>
>>31826258
In ALL selfdefense cases you are charged.
The court then decides if the use of force was justified. It does not matter what weapon you used.
>>
>>31826285

I doubt that. If I club a guy who's in my homei llegally with a blunt object and he's not killed or gravely injured I'm not that likely to be charged.

If I aerate some cunt with a shotgun there's a 100% chance of facing charges.

That said I do pay the CSSA for legal insurance, just in case.

draft is highly unlikely even in the case of actual open declared non-proxy war, which will probably be highly unlikely in itself
>why would we join the war we have no hope of making a bit of difference in, when we can be the "soft power" that instead works to broker peace from day 1 and can take all of the credit and international brownie points when the war inevitably comes to an end

Canada has too many interest groups with too many conflicting interests to get into war and straight up disenfranchise half of them (example: we can't afford for China to pull out all of its money if China goes even tacitly pro-Russian, which is most likely) for reasons like "cuz Merikah is neighbor".

Wouldn't surprise me at all if they come out and just make all semi-auto restricted.
>>
>>31826285
while self defense is not illegal and you can make a good case for saying you used whatever was available and that happened to be a firearm -- possessing a firearm for the purposes of self defense is NOT legal and any prosecutor worth his salt would be able to prove intent if not outright premeditation (at the very least motive for possessing a firearm for an illegal purpose, which as we discussed self-defense is, when it comes to reasons to have a firearm) as pertinent to the case we were discussing: which is some guy wanting to get hp rounds for his tokarev
>but mr prosecutor, how would you prove Billy possessed his firearm with the intent of using it for self defense or otherwise harming another human being, and it wasn't just a sports shooting firearm conveniently available at the time of the self defense incident?
well, let's looky here:
>he went out of his way to find very rare and hard to come by hp rounds for his gun designed to expand, specifically for doing maximum damage to a human body
and even more damning:

The one thing everyone has forgotten about but should keep their buttholes puckered up and ready for is S-223. granted the old unelected bag of crazy got the boot when she turned 75 and that was her last try to get her pet project push through, which did not happen, if you actually look up the document, it's over 70 pages of meticulously written legalese, something I highly doubt was done by an old woman and a couple staffers. this is actually one of the most sophisticated pieces of proposed legislation ever created by the antis, it essentially re-writes the firearms act almost entirely (where it matters anyway, I'm sure we all know the tl;dr on what she tried to do so I won't write all of that out).

here is what matters:
the work was already done
the bill is already written out
IT'S STILL THERE, ready for anyone in Majority government to rename, add a few tweaks and push through at a moment's notice and the win of whoever decides to suddenly "get tough on guns" because Hillary is doing it, because god forbid some idiot goes on a rampage, or just because making real changes is hard and signing a piece of paper that makes everyone feel safe and pleases your base is easy

I don't disagree if you're talking about common calibera and widely available ammunition
if you got a 9mm glock and bought a box of fmj, box of sp, some jhp, some heavier rounds, some lighter ones, steel cased, brass cased, horandy green "zombie" themed shit, etc. to try out how your new firearm shoots with all of this conroncopia of different kind of readily available ammunition for it, there is hardly anything sinister or unusual that can be tied to that. just like if you aren't too knowledgeable about some details and you just wanted to buy some cheap bulk and the store clerk gave you .45jhp instead of fmj cause it was all the same to him

now if prosecution can fairly easily show that you really had to go out of your way to specifically get hp rounds for your tok, that are very uncommon to your firearm and not readily available; or even worse: you actually bought a tool to concert regular rounds into bubba hp, it's a lot harder for you to claim ignorance or lack of intent in this case, when you clearly took time and effort to seek these rounds out/make them

SKS is good idea, SVT not so much. I bought a VZ58 for my first gun, 10/10 would not change decision, and given how close it is to the SKS, I'd say go for it. That being said, I also own an SVT-40. Thing is a pain to field strip, plus you have to tune the gas system first time you take it out.

I'm not saying never get one, just wait until you have some more experience first, or at least understand you'll be frustrated trying to get the damned recoil springs back in place. As for T81 vs VZ58, I can't really say. Nobody owns one in Canada, though it should end up fairly similar to the VZ58, given it shares a lot of design features and the same short stroke piston system.
