I bought some Federal .223 from Walmart and it has these small patches on them. First time buying ammo for my AR 15, is this bad for the gun? Or not a big deal?
>pic related

Also, I've heard to not store your magazines at full capacity. So 30 - 2 for example, is this just a meme? Or are the springs really taking damage?
>>
I wasn't around for last thread to see if my question got answered.

If it's all about shot placement, why does Joules of energy delivered matter?
>>
>>31791385
its just dirty.

store the mags full its completely fine.
>>
>>31791385
normal
>30 - 2 for example
fuddlore that was true in nam but doesnt apply to anything past that

it is true that it is harder to seat a full mag on a closed bolt compared to a closed bolt on a downloaded mag

of course it doesnt matter if the bolts locked back when you insert the mag
>>
>>31791385
the cases are slightly tarnished, no big deal. safe to shoot.

The patches don't matter. I store 30 round mags at 28 rounds. The reason isn't to save the magazine, it's to make it easier to insert the magazine on a closed bolt, should you need to.
>>
>>31791437
Doesn't that damage the feed lips over time?
>>
OP here thanks

Also, this is a retarded question logically since I would assume no, but should I clean and lube my factory lower and upper before using.

Everything is from PSA
>>
Yes, clean and lube any new firearm.

Those cases are fine. They would probably be fine for several reloads after the initial firing.

>>
>>31791636

>>
>>31791525
yes you should clean it
guns ship one of 2 ways chock full of grease/oil to prevent rust or bone dry
neither of these are what you want when you shoot

lube it up when you get it
>>
>>31791467
not on steel mags.
pmags have a little plastic thing that comes with them that you can put on a full mag for storage to take pressure off of the feed lips.
>>
>>31791467
No. Even on new production p-mags isn't a non-issue.

If it does eventually cause a problem, it's warrantied. If you want to stockpile magazines, get USGI aluminium magazines, spare followers, floorplates, and springs.
>>
>>31791653
glad to be of help.

But really its more nuanced than that.

.22 lr will kill you just fine, but under restricted circumstances.

the infinite enviromental factors change this.

Range, barriers, type of target, type of allowed projectile, tactics etc.

For a large force, .556 is a great Idea with mass fire and what not.
SHTF or small unit tactics without large supply chains battle rifles start sounding like a better idea.
9mm and 45 have no substantial difference in the civie field, but the military is restricted to FMJ porjectiles, here .45 acp has a enormous advantage over 9mm.

There are a ton of variables that make your question a near impossible one.
>>

>>31791385
patches are fine.

Spring thing is retarded, springs only deteriorate when releasing tension, not by being tense. Down loading a mag is useful though as it can help with seating the mag during a reload.
>>
>>31791392

Short answer, penetration and expansion.

Longer answer, barring a CNS hit, your target stops moving when it's blood pressure drops below a certain point from blood loss. Bloods loss is a direct result of the surface area of a wound channel. Ignoring some complex fluid dynamics, a wound channel is a product of how deep a bullet penetrates and how wide it expands/fragments.

More energy is required to accelerate a heavier bullet to a faster speed, so it also means more energy will be required to stop the bullet when it hits something. That extra energy translates to a deeper, wider wound channel.
>>
>>31792662
I just went with the D&H ones from PSA. They're using magpul followers and good springs.

Seems to be fine to me. Hard to find many bad USGI type magazines these days if they're using magpul followers.

Unintended. It's the same as releasing the slide. You should slingshot to give the recoil spring the most room to garb that new round and lock. Using the slide release may result in a failure to feed if the gun is dirty.

Can you make handloads that will kaboom a firearm? Like if you left a few loaded magazines with these handloads close to your pistol and some asshole steals it it would blow up in his face? In the first few shots so he wouldn't realize something was up and ditch the ammo. Obviously you wouldn't shoot these rounds yourself maybe only load them with cases you can identify and not use but to anyone else they would look normal.
>>
>>31793955
it comes down to the exact firearm. A lot of guns its impossible to turn it into a pipebomb just from shooting a single round.
>>
>>31793955

> Few loaded magazines
> Identifying them by their cases

You could mark the mags, but honestly, sounds like a risky venture. If you blow off a finger be sure to post pics though.
>>
>>31791385
It's not a big deal, just minor surface corrosion. They should still feed and fire without a problem.

Loading down is not a meme. I load all my AR mags to 28 and pistol mags down one because pushing a magazine into the mag well on a closed bolt is tough for anything more filled than that despite the fact that modern magazines are designed to be more forgiving (magpul and lancer can hold 31, DD can hold 32).

The most significant reason to load down is for putting in a mag on an empty chamber but there is something to be said for spring fatigue: it exists. The surefire 60 and 100 rounders had BAD problems with it and some magazines can have their feed lips damaged of they are held under load (that's what the extra plastic piece is that comes with PMAGs)

>>31791392
it's not *all* about shot placement, one still has to apply energy to a critically vital areas to affect a quick stop and/or lethality. A .45 ACP to the toe is significantly less lethal than a .22 short to the eye at point blank and they're both infinitely more lethal than a .50 BMG that whizzes overhead.

>>31791525
inspect it, degrease, then lubricate as needed

>>31791852
depends more on where you live and how many legs whatever you anticipate shooting has than on your lack of personal hygiene standards.

>>31793148
it corrodes areas its residue sits after firing due to corrosive salts, at the very least you ought to rinse the barrel and gas tube with water but ideally a full cleaning is in order.

>>31793246
notwithout an analogue. Pulling the trigger without ammo in a gun is good practice. Even using a BB gun or airsoft gun is better than nothing. Just don't let bad habits creep in.

>>31793260
don't shit on .22, it's an excellent training tool for people with limited funds.

Savage Axis, Ruger American, Mossberg 500, Maverick 88, S&W M&P15, Vz 58, PTR 91, AMD 63, or AMD 65 are good places to start, though there are many other solid entry level guns.

>>
>>31793276
efficiently designed muzzle devices, butt pads, and heavy rifles slow recoil impulse but nothing cheats newton's laws

>>31793550
it's due to flex in the frame due to lower stiffness of the frame material. It is common among plastic framed firearms and does not damage a firearm any more than letting the action fall another way.

>>31793629
flat top, why commit when you con't have to?

>>31793955
you can by doubling the powder charge but DO NOT DO THIS. it could be very dangerous to someone close to you should they need to defend themselves or yourself should you lose focus for a moment.
>>
>>31793955
you could just overload the fuck out of powder in the top round of the magazine
or you could make a squib load and let nature take it's course

these would all probably blow up your barrel though
>>
>>31791385
It can be easier to insert mags on a closed bolt if you downsize to 29 or 28 with certain mags and certain rifles. YMMV.

>>31797079

I just bought a Kriss in .45ACP and I love this little bitch. I narrowed my choices to the CX4, the MPX and the Kriss before deciding on the Kriss. Honestly, I chose it because it comes in .45ACP, has great capacity for caliber, takes a common magazine and has a factory threaded barrel.

However, I've come to love it for other reasons. It is a noticeably soft shooting .45ACP that my girlfriend absolutely loves to shoot. She's much more accurate with it than with my AR or Galil because of how little weight is forward her support hand resulting in less fatigue. It is a heavy little monster at the action but that's where I want the weight, right between my support and shooting hands.

My second choice would have been the CX4 but you're looking at 20 rounds maximum in 9mm and 10 rounds of .45 with no threading on the barrel. That's aside from the fact that it's essentially the same simple action as a Sten, Sterling, Mac or Uzi carbine except with a lower round count, polymer shell and heftier price tag. So actually, it was never a choice for me at all.

MPX didn't make it because
>no .45ACP
>30rd 9mm magazine costs $60 retail vs $35 for Glock 33 rounders or ~$50 total for Glock 21 mag and a Kriss extension

Also, I'm not the guy you were bitching too in the first place. I just decided to come in and help you because you're incapable of helping yourself.
>>
>>31799237
The request was simple. The image is already out there, there's no need to make more so you can watermark it Aoyj.

I never asked how to add text to an image, to make a worse version of an existing one.

If you didn't have the image, you didn't need to reply.
>>
>>31799327
>there's no need to make more so you can watermark it Aoyj.
This idiot doesn't even know what a watermark is. There's no watermark on there.

You can stop crying now.

Rail with variable is the patrician choice
>>
>>31797943
quality of reman ammo varies from equalling the best new ammo to squibs and kabooms.

And who remans 7.62x39 for any cheaper than you can buy new?

general consensus is "it's your gun and your life--do whatever the hell you want, but I'm not going anywhere near it or you at the range"
>>
>>31799349
Did I say there was a watermark on it?

You can stop crying now, Aoyj

308, 5.56, and 9mm
>>
>>31798704
>you're looking at 20 rounds maximum in 9mm
Beretta themselves make 30 round mags, which work fine in the 40 as well, just a few less rounds.

>same simple action
That simply works. While recoil is negligible, in the 40 it is a bit annoying, desu.

SBR'd Kriss would be cool, tho.
>>
>>31799497
So never? I asked for an existing image and you made a big stink when I said I was rly looking for a new one so you could
>could
Watermark it
>>
>>31799606
>Stop making images, people "could" watermark them
must be hard to go thru life being this dumb
>>
>>31799622
You're really taking your knock off image seriously. You ever think maybe making a whole stink over this when the request was very simply laid out was possibly not the right decision?

Because the original request was never fulfilled and you're still whining about your shitty pic.
>>
>>31799656
>You ever think maybe making a whole stink over this

Yeah, because the due complaining how others are a "fucking moron" and acts like a dumb fuck isn't the one making a stink, it's everyone else.
>>
>>31799673
I asked for a simple image. One that already exists.

All I got was some shitty versions and a dude saying I could do it in paint.

It's not a conceivable hard request. If you have the image, post it. If not, move on.

And if you really want to whine about who threw the first stone, look at the thin skinned idiot in the mirror. Not that anyone here cares but you.
>>
>>31799702
>I asked for a simple image
>It's not a conceivable hard request.
This is not a request board. No one is obligated to give you anything. Also people can post anything they want.

Does it hurt your autistic feelings, Nancy?
>>
>>31799743
I asked if anybody had the image in a questions that don't deserve their own thread-thread. If anything, it's the best place to ask for /k/ related images.

It's not my fault you get all butthurt when people call you an idiot for posting stupid trash.

in assuming the only reason you're still replying is that you have some innate need to have the last word, because you don't have any point to make at this point.

If I'm looking to rent a room/share an apartment, what's the best way to potential roommates know I'll be bringing my guns with me? Or is it better just not to bring it up?

Bruh. You need to stop moving goalposts just to "prove" how right you are.

If you really don't like people asking for images, go make your own authoritarichan where there are strict rules about asking questions and no QTDDTOT threads.
>>
>>31799769
Just ask them fairly early on (not the first damned thing you ask, tho) what they think of firearms.

>just not to bring it up
Unless you're an excellent judge of character and determine that they wouldn't be bothered to find out at a later point, this is a very stupid idea. There are some crazy ass hoplophobes out there.

I'm moving out near Portland, and I've been steering clear of any ad that says they're liberal or looking for left-wing roommates, so *hopefully* I'd avoid the craziest ones that way, I'm just worried about what'll happen if I move into someone's house and like the second week I'm there they see me bringing home a gunsafe or something.
So far what I'm thinking of doing is mentioning that I hunt when I email people - most people on craigslist want a dumb little 'tell me about yourself' thing when you email them, so that way I can lay some deniability into it - "I told you I hunted, why would you think I wouldn't own guns?"
>>
>>31799916
You still don't understand what moving the goalposts mean. I've made multiple statements that you disagree with, but one is not 'farther down field' because they're about different things, you retard.

Why do you use terms you don't understand?
>>
>>31799911
This. Why pay $50-60 for 200rnds of winchester white box at cabelas when I can pay $43 at walmart?
>>
A local pawn shop has a Marlin 336 (not sure of year) for $340. The wood has some surface wear but it's mechanically sound and very smooth. Should I go for it? I've been wanting a lever gun for a while.
>>
>>31799985
You realize moving the goalposts can mean changing the criterion for what counts, not just making it harder, right? Or are you intentionally conflating the term with physically moving goalposts?
>>
>>31800022
>changing the criterion for what counts
Nothing has changed, you idiot. Everything I've said still stands, you've just brought up other things that I've also responded to.

When you have a conversation about lunch to someone and they bring up what they're doing next weekend, do you also accuse them off moving the goal posts?
>>
>>31799996
I'd probably go for it. 30-30 or? Because they did make some in harder-to-find calibers as well. If you're not a reloader that could be an issue.
>>

No, because they're not constantly shifting points to prove how "wrong" I am after I dismissed their other shitty points.

Seriously kid. The image you posted was dumb, so get over it.
>>

It must be hard to always be the victim. People don't disagree with you when you're wrong, they disagree with you because it's an attack. Poor you

You can get one before 21 in certain circumstances, but I wouldn't qualify for them.

New question: How do I cope with being a nopistol? I already have a flare gun, but it's not quite enough.
>>
>>31800082
It is in 30-30 so ammo wouldn't be an issue.

My LGS was showing off some nifty kinds of .22lr. The kind that most interested me they said was much quieter than standard .22lr. I have a garden in my backyard that woodchucks and squirrels love to fuck with. I can't shoot them because I live in suburbia.

My questions are, would these quiet .22lr be quiet enough to use here? Would they knock down a woodchuck?

certain twist rates "shoot better" (stabilize would be a more appropriate term) with certain bullet weights. it means theres one full twist in the rifling in every 9" of barrel.

>>
>>31804872
also if youre just shooting bulk ammo itll probably be 55 or possibly 62 grain, in which case 1x7, 1x8, 1x9 would all be fine.
twist rate is more of an issue when you get to heavier and/or lighter bullets.
a lot of AR guys will tell you 1x7 is best because thats what the military uses but 1x9 is fine
