No idea what service they're for, but the lack of army property stamps leads me to believe they're police kit.

I suspect that green polish fleck set that's up for $900 may have had something to do with it. I live safe in the knowledge that I don't have to rush to get it, because no-one in Poland has the dosh for that and I'm the only fool overseas that'd pay that much as it's a personal grail of mine.

It's the same partially waterproofed fabric used for the rest of the winter uniform. For whatever reason (probably the larger % of synthetics), it tends to look shiny when photographed with flash.

Fun fact: the camo flaps are the only ones you're allowed to use; letting the fur flaps down is a no-no.

>>
>>31795879
>Militaries are weird.
Fun Fact: Canada "Issues" an Ushanka in that you can order one with arbitrary points given to you every year. As a recruit, you can "afford" a Ushanka.

The Ushanka is not authorized to be worn basically ever. It can be used in parades at a CO's discretion, but it'll never happen because it's not something everyone necessarily has. It's not authorized to be worn with your work uniform. It's not authorized to be worn with your heavy-ass wool double-breasted formal suit, even though you can wear that without a coat. It's not authorized to be worn with the coat you'd wear with the suit because the suit defines what headdress you use. It's not authorized to be worn with your mess dress, because you don't wear hats in a mess. It's not authorized to be worn with your business dress, since it's a derivative of your formal dress using the suit and uses the same hat.

And to make it EVEN WEIRDER, the Ushanka is authorized to be worn out of uniform because it is not obviously a CF garment. I think it's even specifically whitelisted as a definitely okay to wear thing outside of uniform, like boots.

It's just macho bullshit. Letting the flaps down is considered unmanly, and therefore unsuitable for a military dude.

Then again, the fur cap sucks ass if you ask anyone who's actually had to wear it for extended periods of time. There's a good reason why everyone able to get away with breaching uniform regulations opts to wear a regular old knit watch cap instead.
>>
>>31795951
those ear flap things do look pretty thin and the cap itself seems inferior to a plain ol cotton hood

that ushanka seems like what someone would make given a cartoon and not the reasons why ushankas are great (i.e. that they cover your head with fur)

that thing seems to offer the coverage of a beret at ten times the size
>>
>>31795951
What makes me laugh is the fact people seem to think the Russians are like that. I was talking to my father about the wool telnyashka and he said something to the effect of "So when they're stood around in the freezing cold they're actually wearing warm stuff, not just putting up with it?"

They still issue valenki for the winter months. I was watching Admiral and it was funny seeing them in use in the snow. Massive fur coats too.

The number in place of the name tag is a dead giveaway it's faked. British Army has never used numbers instead of names, and more importantly the number is impossible to have. Since 1920 the shortest service number has been 7 digits and the last of those soldiers issued a 7 digit would have retired by 1970. 5 digits is frankly impossible.

As for the TRF each individual platoon until very recently often had their own slightly unique take on the regimental tab so it could be legit.

And a final giveaway is the stitching which is just wrong.

What you're hearing is right, even if it sounds crazy. You don't REALLY need to use gasoline, any solvent (simple green, mineral spirits, hot water, windex, etc.) will do just fine.

A combination of leaving the barreled assembly in the 103° heat down here for a whIle, some windex, and lots of paper towels and que tips did the trick for me.

Don't try using a bore snake until the rest of the rifle and 95% of the cosmo is out of the barrel/action unless you want to basically ruin it. You can KIND OF clean it, but it will always have a sort of greasy layer penetrated inside of the fabric.

Letting the stock bleed is a good idea, but start with something like a hair dryer on medium heat (dont ruin your varnish!) some shop rags is good to do before you let it just sit.

New to this milsurp clothing shit, how's the BW flecktarn parka? Thinking of getting it for anything below 50-55 degrees, layering for anything colder. Love the camo and it looks like it's pretty great at resisting rain and wind.

I live in NV so it's not like I'm expecting massive snowstorms, this can probably double as my winter jacket as well.

Either this, or I was thinking the S95 smock, but the price of the flecktarn parka is less than half the price of one of those while retaining the same features I care about (hood, lotsa pockets, quick-drying, water resistant)

Thanks a bunch. I think I'll pull the trigger on the flecktarn, and if I get as addicted to this as I think I'll be, I'll get the smock later down the road.

I already have a couple Swiss M70s kicking around, and they'd be perfect jackets if they weren't so gigantic. It's probably the only jacket that I'd complain has TOO many pockets. That, and being 100% cotton, it's not at all weatherproof. Great for chilly day hikes when there's no clouds in the sky, but I'd never wear it in public.

I love the veil so much though, it's great for mosquitos and if I want to look like a loony cultist.

If you want real kit, the only "easy" thing that you could get your hands on is a set of French alpine cammies.

You're not going to find real bdu-style sets in snow patterns as it's a given that it's cold where they're used, so they're all either coats or oversuits.

Or for commercial, you posted your #1 option, multicam alpine, probably followed by one of the krypkek patterns.

Snow camouflage is few and far between.

I remember a few years ago when everyone was scrambling to get the experimental Snow MARPAT.

I'd probably get some schneetarn and the US M51/M65 Arctic overwhites and I'd be good, though that may change later on. I once again live in a place that actually gets snow.
At my old place, we had exactly two snowfalls in 11 years, about 4" if they were combined.

Military style clothing (that's not milsurp) is a fashion thing, I see a lot of Asian international students at my college wear this type of stuff.

Still doubting between them and the lined version.

No surprise here. Everyone knows the brown service uniform is halloween costume-tier junk compared to the pre-WW2 stuff it's (poorly) modeled after.

The greatcoat is probably OK in spring and autumn, but I sure as hell wouldn't want to be caught wearing it during a flippin' snowstorm.

I had a Lithuanian housemate who produced empty bottles like it was going out of fashion, I just filled it with water. I hate the taste of most alcohol, especially spirits. To date the three things I have found acceptable are alcoholic ginger beer; a store bought apricot brandy and chartreuse (the green one surprisingly). That bison grass vodka was okay, but I was hammered off fruit cider at that point because the yearly work-do has a free bar so that might have had an effect.

I bought some flectarn pants and a bdu jacket about a year ago and now the pants are too big. They're Gr. 12 and the waist is about an inch too large. Should i take them to a tailor? if I roll them at the waist they fit better but that's not really secure. Should I go for suspenders? Should I just suck it up and get a tight belt? I'd like it I could make the pants more slim fitting in the leg as well, but it seems like this could get expensive. Is there a size i could buy that would actually fit me? (Same measurements as Gr 12 but a smaller waist)

You might be able to find BDU trousers in the pattern on ebay if you're lucky, but real ones are rarely posted by some Polish sellers, and in addition to being in random sizes/condition they get hounded on by tons of bidders.
