A friend of mine's great grandfather just died. While helping his dad go through his stuff, he found an MP-40. The great grandfather was in the Battle of the Bulge but never told anyone in his family that he brought a gun back. I can't find any proof that it's registered. What should my friend do?
>>
>>31783982
He should leave it in your hands for safe keeping for being such a good friend.
>>
>>31783982
you should get your kid to pose with it like the dummy from last week. you'll probably get more responses.
>>
turn it into a wall-hanger
>>
>>31783982
shut the fuck up about it dont tell anyone and keep it
>>
Keep your friend's fucking mouth shut and put it in a safe place.
>>
Hand it in to the responsible authorities
>>

>>31784027
These. He has to keep it hidden, safe, well-stored, and never fucking talk about it; ever.
The only other option he has to keep it is to have it deactivated. It hurts, but at least then you can display it.

This.

Other than that there's really not much you can do legally, besides filing a form 10 and giving it to a museum.

At around 8:30 your question gets answered

If these came into America before the anti machine gun law, then are they not grandfathered? I'm not American so I don't know your law. Wouldn't the gun was brought in as war booty, hence have some documentation? Would this be enough?
>>
>>31783999

Anyone have pics of this? lol

>>31784157

Well I haven't seen it. And I'd imagine that it happens often with 10 millions Americans serving overseas in WWII and there dropping like flies of old age.
>>
>>31784201
there a minimum of at least 5 "hey I found an unregistered FA gun" threads a day.

post a timestamp with it or enjoy your b8 thread/atf honey pot
>>
>>31784196

Nope. NFA doesn't grandfather. If it wasn't registered before 1986 or have a "ringback letter" signed by a commanding officer, it's unregisterable and contraband.

OP is fucked unless Trump wins and orders the ATF to have an NFA amnesty like they did in 1967.

>>

No, I've been browsing for a week.
>>
>>31784267

How do I find that?
>>
>>31783982
Look if there's any compartment in the gun itself where stuff could be. Tear through the house and examine every paper.

If nothing is found, you should cake it in preservative grease or cosmoline, wrap it in several plastic bags, then bury it in a PVC tube somewhere safe.

Don't fucking tell the ATF about it if you can't find the paperwork or stamp.

If needed, procure a non-firing replica of the MP40, or a semi-auto variant, and use as cover in case some jackboots come knocking.

>>31784110
That's not even funny as a joke.

This.

But once in a while take it somewhere absofuckinglutely deserted and fire it. I mean like inna desert at 3 in the morning. Then bug out.
>>
>gun hidden for decades
>not an issue
>suddenly it's an issue

I'd reckon there are probably millions or more "illegal" machine guns hidden across this country today. Many brought back from WW1 and WW2 and put away.

Think about how many older abandoned barns and houses are out there. Think about how many of those could contain aging war relics.

I mean, in WW1, if you paid the postage, you could ship home a Maxim.
>>
>>31785376
Many were brought back from Korea and Vietnam.

There's Thompsons from Korea, which were brought back home illegally (stolen from armory and taken home in parts), likewise there were many M16s stolen that way during Nam, along with some AK47s which weren't properly papered as bringbacks, a lot of these getting registered in the amnesty.

Your friend should keep quiet. Get ammo and accessories for it, maintain it, practice a little with it. Learn it and save it for a time when it will be needed.

1. click "catalog" at top of page
2. click "archive" at top of page
3. CTRL + F and search for a keyword. I remember the gun in question was an MG15, so searching for that will probably find the right thread, we don't exactly see a lot of those on here.
>>
Why is shutting the fuck up about something not a clearly viable route to people anymore?
>>
>>31783982
Have him Form 10 it to a museum. Make sure that he makes an agreement with the museum that if machine gun laws ever change they will give it back to him.
>>
>>31784212
Actually any factory machine guns not registered during the 1968 amnesty were illegal, even when civilians could still make machine guns.
>>
Do what everyone else is saying, pack it good and hide it. Don't let anyone know about it. If machine gun laws change dig it out.

Why weren't more machine guns brought back during our conflicts?
Why did they want shitty bolt actions?

And there is absolutely nothing you can do about it

Google the digital director of CTR. His name is Benjamin but I can't actually tell you his last name. His last name is the German(((yiddish))) words for fish and for leg. Put those together and you have his last name.

Now go to /pol/ or where ever else and try to write his first and last name on 4chan and see what happens. Hmmmmmm pure coincidence goyim

Have fun taking a vacation from 4chan until the election is over.

The best and most practical use for a firearm like this is for a nice boat gun.

Take it out over the deepest part of the lake and be very careful not to drop it into the abyss where it will never be found again

>double dubs of godly truth

Regarding laws and repealing them, how would it actually happen?

All I know of anything similar happening was the prohibition act and then removal thereof, but it was an amendment to the constitution. Would this be any different?
>>
>>31789394
No. C&R doesn't cover anything that is under the NFA or modified to be NFA classified.

Sadly.

>all those delicious guns, gone forever
>>
>be fag
>have cool old gun

why do people do this? how can we unban the shoelace? why hasnt anyone tried to unban automatic weapons?? why isnt bringbacks a god given right to keep??? america needs to sort some things out desu
>>
>>31789540

The Hughes Amendment isn't a Constitutional Amendment like Prohibition was, it's an amendment to FOPA (The Firearms Owners Protection Act). You'd need the Supreme Court to overturn it but it would be considerably easier to repeal. Though since it is its own article to the Act, possibly just the Amendment could be repealed while the remainder of FOPA is left intact.

This Kinda crap is even dumber for more obscure weapons nobody can even get the ammo for anyway. I think firearms over 30 years old should be treated like art, only requiring licensing if you intend to shoot it at a range.
But the worriers in your country are louder than the reasonists.
>>
>>31790146
You're a retard.

1.
The MP 40 fires 9x19, so it is absolutely still fireable, with an extremely common cartridge. It is not even close to obscure.

2.
>requiring a licence to shoot a gun

What are you, a commie?
>>
>>31783982
Don't make forum posts online about it.

Don't talk about it.

Don't show pictures of it to friends or family.

Don't leave the house with it.

You have a war rellic the government would love to destroy, but it's a piece of your great grandfather's memory and you shouldn't let anyone take it from you, so follow my advice and cherish it privately.

the idea of a permit, or PERMITting someone to own a gun is a clear infringement on the second amendment.

If the time comes and you can't modify one of your modern firearms to FA I'm not really sure what you've been doing on /k. Seriously, get a roni glock carbine converter and the 80% auto sear for a glock and only complete in case of emergency. For extra credit use a spectre frame and peppers solvent trap suppressor to maximize felonious behavior.

Do you realize how many modern guns fall into that description. Not much has changed with guns in 30 years. Just more polymer and some gimicky shit.

I wouldn't mind an M16A1 and an XM177E2, but I'll want to be shooting them.

Thankfully, M193 loads of .223 Remington is still made commercially so I could shoot them to my hearts content.

IMO, anything over 100 years old should be considered antique (no FFL required), 50 years C&R no exceptions, and then add a Modern C&R so have guns shipped straight to the house.
