Should I get a Savage 10BA w/Vortex Viper scope and a bipod for $1000 NIB? Or should I get something else as my first dedicated hunting rifle?

You don't need to spend that much for a first hunting rifle. That being said, savage is good.

Just some bolt for $300. No way you need to blow $1k on your first durr gun.

I'm spoiled from years of precision Olympic shooting and 3Gun worth fancied-up rifles.

Why? I really enjoyed it, and it had a pretty nice bolt and trigger. Another option I'm looking at is a Winchester Model 70.

Sure, if you have the money for the rifle and a scope go for it its a great gun and will kill most things dead so do it.

who the fuck are they kidding with this
also, get a used .30-30 Winchester

The scope comes with the rifle, as does some sbitty Caldwell bipod.

If I'm getting a levergun it's going to be in .45-70

>If I'm getting a levergun it's going to be in .45-70
My bad, I naively assumed you weren't retarded.

for hunting a 10BA is too heavy for a 308 gun, thats going to suck to lug around if you ever plan on using it on hunt where you have to hike/ stalk any game. I still would recommend savage though, you can get a good savage with an accutrigger and an accustock which can at least weigh less than a rifle that weighs 9+ pounds without a scope or sling.

What about some models from Tikka, Sako, or Winchester? There's a big sale going on for bolt guns, and I quite liked the offerings from all 3.

The reason I want .45-70 is to match my Sharps reproduction. I have plenty of ammo as well as the fact that I reload. Solid cast bullets are dirt cheap and fun to shoot.

Tikka is awesome, as is Sako. Never shot a modern Winchester as I am a eurofag
>>31779218
The Winchester felt great, was lighter than the Tikka but not the Sako. Bolt was jeweled, and wood was absolutely beautiful.
Though aesthetics don't always translate well into performance. I know jack shit about new production Winchesters either, hence why I'm asking.

fair enough

I'll be honest I haven't shot any of those brands. I only recommended a savage because my first hunting rifle was a savage and I love it with the caveat that fully loaded it is a tad heavy. But online I hear about Tikkas a lot so they might be worth a look.
