For those who were gun owners or had gun owning family during the 90s-early 2000s, what was the original '94 Clinton Ban like?
>>
>year after Jurassic Park comes out
>SPAS-12s finally coming into civilian market
>BAM, AWB
>market is kill
>SPAS-12s stop being produced 4 years before AWB ends

It's awful and anyone who thinks we should be subject to it again needs to fuck off.
>>
>>31777646
Not an Ameribro but travel there a lot, and interested in guns
> on /k/ so limited gun
It wasn't just things like shotguns, amazing rifles like my personal favourite where banned as well, it pushes the price to about $15,000 and zero lives have been saved by the ban

> inb4 pasta
No areas of high gun ownership have been shot up, only areas where gun controls are strict, or gun carry is unlawful or unaccepted, are there insane high gun crime and mass shootings.

I don't think every teacher should HAVE to carry a gun, I don't think every teacher SHOULD carry a gun, but I'm sure if you let teachers have the chance shootings in schools would be lower or less lethal.
I think if stopped blacks ownings guns murder would go down, I don't think you SHOULD stop blacks owning guns, I'm just pointing out the stupidity of the ban any gun that looks scary club.
>>

The AWB expired in 2004 I think. It's not still a thing.

Double trips speak truth
>>
My grandfather owned a gun store from 1970s to 2006.
All my uncles, my brother, and I grew up in there.

Gun sales in late 93 went up, the SKS market improved, pre-ban ARs were expensive and scarce. Post ban stuff wasn't getting nearly as high in price. Saiga sporters were dirt cheap, same with Chinese SKSs and thumbhole AKs.

The truth is Republicans are just as anti-gun as Democrats. Regan supported banning semi-auto rifles. George Bush Sr. banned certain imports. etc George W. Bush said he'd resign the AWB if it hit his desk.

The era of the thumbhole stock left a bad taste in everyone's mouth, let's do everything we can to make sure it doesn't comeback around.

If you're pro gun and don't vote for Trump your killing the 2nd amendment.
>>

Double Trips
>breh
>>
I started collecting guns in 2000. ARs and AKs were still being sold, albeit with no colapsable or folding stocks, muzzle devices, or bayonette lugs. Its where the "pre ban" meme came from. You would see rifles with those features selling for $1500+. Beat to shit 30 round magazines with the "LE/Gov use only" stamp were $100. SKS was a common thing to see because it inherently got around the laws. Ammo was much cheaper. And 90's action movie style ruled the day. It was all kinda like a less cucked version of california today.

Though, it should be noted that it's been dems that tend to push the anti-funs shit, and Republicans tend to rollover.
>>
>>31778325
Not the anon you're talking to, but Reagan was a huge proponent of the AWB.

There is a quote he had about how anything more dealdy than a shotgun or hunting rifle is completely unnecessary. Post Goldwater repubs are nothing more than Dems IMHO.
Trump may be different, he may not be, regardless I know he's going to be better than Romney would have.

>>

>>
>>31778360
I am also aware of that, and I scorn the Hughes Amendment he allowed to get through, which continues to piss me off to no end, along with the fucking amnesty bill he signed and Ginsberg.

But it was Clinton that got the AWB passed, a lot of congressional dems push anti-fun laws with some rino cohorts to this day, and Obama has been trying to make life harder for gun owners, and have only been mostly thwarted due to a (R) House and a split senate, with enough (D)s to favor gun ownership.

Not saying you're completely wrong, but it tends to be dems that tend to actively try, while reps tend to be passive.
>>
>>31777666
That whole thing was wrong.

First, SPAS-12 started production in 1979. But they weren't actually imported to the U.S. until 1982. In 1989, the folding stock, 8-round magazine version was banned from import. In 1990, American Arms started to import the fixed stock, 6-round magazine version and continued to do so until 1994.

fucking retard.
>>
I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I didn't even notice. Very few people owned scurry black rifles back then. And -- it's tough to explain, but we were still a high trust culture, and one of the things you could trust was the government. So even when you think they're fucking up, you kind of roll your eyes and grouse and go along with it. The NRA took out a full-page ad to denounce cops as jackbooted thugs, took a super-militant line on the whole thing, and it cost them maybe a third of their membership. I recall that as well.

I could buy a little old .22 gallery gun at the Sunnyvale Antique Show in a perfectly legal private sale and wander home to my apartment with it right through the middle of Silicon Valley. No fucks were given by passers-by or the one cop I saw.

You know what California is like now, what our culture is like, and what sort of regulatory mafiosi our government has morphed into. And you know what kind of screaming and yelling and brinksmanship on both sides the same action today would bring, so I'm not sure history is a good guide any more.

The past is a different country. And we are in uncharted waters.

I wasn't quite old enough to buy a gun myself but shot and have been interested in guns my entire life. All I know is I miss the days before ARs, plastic striker pistols and "tactical" everything became every-goddamn-one's primary obsession. While I wouldn't vote for one, I can't honestly say I'd give a single fuck if another AWB ended up passing. I find modern gun culture fucking obnoxious.

You belong to the first generation of Americans that has to say, yeah, the country and society and culture and form of government we have would not be recognizable to my ancestors. I could say that when I was your age. You can't.

Look at the politically motivated threats. Look at the way your countrymen are talking about each other. Look at the people in power openly getting away with shit -- with no response. I've never seen that in my life. Neither have my parents.

This is not normal. You have to remember that, or we are fucking done for.

Looks scary and the SAS used it in a couple high profile hostage rescues. In truth it's a finicky and unreliable design and it's effective use was due to the high level of training by the SAS rather then any "high speed low drag" features of the gun. But try telling that to a politician with an agenda.

Why did Canada ban the H&K G11, a.k.a. kraut-space-magic? Of which only 14 functional prototypes were ever made and only 8 are known to survive? Because it looks scary enough to be useful to politicians with an agenda.

Back on point, trying to compare the AWB of 1994 to a current time is going to be difficult. Sure, there were folks who had pre-ban guns, but the AR-15 barbie dolls we have today were non-existent because demand wasn't as high. The greatest thing congress and the president did for the gun community was not re-upping the ban, because 1) we were post 9/11 and people were still very worried about terrorism and 2) people realized that a non-neutered AR-15 was a ton of fun.

Basically the ban being lifted in conjunction with a war in the middle east opened up a multi-billion dollar industry for tacticool shit: Custom uppers, lowers, fore ends, barrels, optics, BUISs, tac lights, magazines, etc...The evil guns that were banned became so popular, they are now impossible to remove from society.
>>
>>31779283
"Women's rights" are not human rights. They are weaponized memes that exist for the purpose of weakening the family and thus the nation. Notice how every single nation with "women's rights" is at or below replacement birthrate and those without "women's rights" are rapidly outbreeding us. This is not a coincidence. The first world's labor pool drying up is a deliberate plan by the globalists to make it easier for retards to accept inviting the third world. The result is demographic displacement and white genocide.
>>
>>31779298

To add, the ban expiring also coincided with internet retailers becoming commonplace.

Basically, ban expiration, war in ME/9-11, and the internet all came at the perfect time for gun ownership in the US.
>>
>>31779334
I see.

Right now states are all essentially at the mercy of the major metropolitan areas, and your votes essentially don't count if you're going against the prevailing group think. Lots of neat little memories. I turned 21 in 1996.

The really common aftermarket glock part was a metal mag release. There were all steel gLock mags that were high caps, but they would ruin the polymer release. So, some part company came up with a replacement steel one.

The 1911 had a resurgance. The 90's were all about the "wonder 9", but the 9mm was seen as week and when capacity became less of a consideration, 1911's became popular. Kimber was the big winner, as they really produced the best "custom 1911" that you could be off the shelf. Beaver tales and all the things we expect on 1911's (in 2016) were mostly a thing your gunsmith would install.

SKS $100-150 all day long, everywhere you looked.

Norinco was this cheap chinese gun company that had potential for custom builds. That died.

Obviously, the Mini-14 was a different beast. It was the assault rifle you could still get anywhere. I see ar-15 vr Mini-14 threads here all the time. I get that the AR is better, but for a long time the Mini was as good as it was gonna get without spending serious serious money. Mags were a bitch, but not as bad as people make out. Factory were $100, after market were $35. Aftermarket could be junk, or actually work pretty well.

The 40 was the gretaest thing ever. Again, you guys shit on it, but back in the day, 40 was literally the greatest bullet that ever done was
>9mm ergo modern guns

Hits like a 45, modernity of a 9mm. It was only enhanced by the AWB gimping mags, and every cop/deputy/fed in America switching to it.
Just what it was, not looking to argue caliber.

We did not like Clinton. Not one bit. The midterms were a bloodbath for the Dems, and the AWB was the glaring reason why. The post Clinton midterms are why Dems are still afraid to push on guns to hard.

Still have the fucking thing, mostly as a reminder not to do stupid shit.

So many loopholes and shit that manufacturers had to create to give people products they wanted... it was an innovative time, but it did literally nothing the politicos said it would.

It affected crime... none, yet this is still trotted out like it's a great idea. We have ten years of data saying it was pointless and hard to enforce, and yet...

It appears as though the email is talking about how the Clinton campaign would like their internal polling weighted in order to appear more favorable to Hillary. The problem with Trump supporters calling attention to this is that there is a big difference between pollsters who work for a political campaign and those who don't. Everyone already knows that partisan polling is biased, and none of the major polling aggregators use these polls in their data sets.

>If you're pro gun and don't vote for Trump your killing the 2nd amendment.

Trump's campaign is going to do more harm to the 2A than if some other Republican had won the primary and lost. Trump has alienated so many people that the Democrats are nearly a lock to take back the Senate (and Hillary's USSC appointments will make Garland look like Scalia) and have a realistic shot at the house, something that six months ago would have been farcical.

Shit I'm basically Trump's main demographic, I'm a white non college-educated male who owns guns and I'd never vote for him. Hillary is anti-gun, but Trump could conceivably trash the economy and start WW3.

I was still in elementary school when Columbine happened - did that affect the perception of guns and the AWB much, given that it blatantly did nothing to stop the shooting from happening? I just remember having to justify playing my uncle's copy of Medal of Honor and having half my "violent" video games taken away because of how they tied the shooting to Doom.
>>
>>31784044
If you recall Columbine, they blamed literally everything except the dumbshits that did it.

Violent video games(DOOM, Duke 3D), music(KMFDM for the win!), and guns (even though they stole the guns they used) were all on the chopping block.

Never another Columbine! They shouted loud, but... nothing really ever happened, because you can't legislate an end to insanity, or dumbshit kids who think murder is the best idea ever. It all petered out because hey, wasn't the AWB supposed to stop crime? Oh... let's focus on media instead.

Holy shit, what a horrible time to be alive as an adult who shoots guns.

My dad bought me the first gun I ever actually owned (I had previously only borrowed his to go shooting), a Glock 22. Because .40 was regarded as some kind of wonder cartridge at the time.

Sometime around '98 or so, my Big Christmas Present from pops was a pre-ban High Capacity 15-round magazine for that Glock, and it was big shit. They cost well over a hundred bucks, and there was an air of "getting away with something" around them. That's how different a world it was. Every gun show was stuffed with AKs with thumbhole stocks, and guys trading rumors that if you accidentally backed over them with your truck, you could legally replace them with the real thing.

Tables advertising "Pre-Ban AK-47 only $1200!!" were all over the place, and remember this is in 90s bucks. I wish I could go back for one day and stock up on SKS's, MREs and russian ammo, though.

To this day I still have all the neutered 10-round mags that Glock came with because hell, they still function.

This.

The SPAS-12 was primarily to be used on semi-auto mode. Back in the 80s everyone was too retarded to understand that and primarily used them on pump, and then complained that it was a bulky pump-shotgun. Either when they used it on semi-auto they used too light loads and understandably caused it to fuck up. But that's the operators fault and not the guns fault.

If you want to know what the ban looked like take a look at States that passed an AWB around that time. NJ's ban is almost identical to the federal.
>Only a pistol grip, flash hider or bayonet lug
>15 round mag limit
>A list of banned no matter what guns
>Fixed stocks

It has created a black market for 15+ round magazines here. They just are not used at NJ ranges.
Most cops in the state can't tell (or they don't care about) the difference between a flash hider and a muzzle break. Bayonet lugs as well.

The biggest issue is the list of banned guns. Some things like Colt or Bushmaster AR's is only a minor inconvenience (other companies are ok to have) but if you want something like an AUG or M1 Carbine you are out of luck unless you can get it from a private party who doesn't care or doesn't know.

If you are trying to see what a federal AWB 2.0 would look like, I think it would be something like this for semi autos:
>Only one of these features: pistol grip, bayonet lug, flash hider
>Mag limit somewhere between 10-20 rounds
>Must have a fixed stock
>Minimum overall length or flat out ban on bullpups
>A list of common rifles that would be banned by name (stuff like Tavor or Sig 556)
>>
>>31788314
this is the most likely scenario, by far

I don't see a ban on bullpup tho because to be honest the sort of people pushing these bans just don't know about them. It's like being ignorant is a source of pride
>>
>>31788363

>>
>>31788604
They still have to make the law palatable to the swing states which are still mostly gun friendly. While having removable magazines banned sound appealing to congressmen from CA, NJ or NY; the congressmen from PA, FL or MI know that can be the thing that gets them recalled or to lose reelection.

They gain a majority in the house and they can push it through. A handful of southern dem congressmen won't pass it, but most people's primary issue isn't gun rights, even the swing state voters who are mildly upset about an AWB will still vote blue because "muh welfare state"
>>
>>31789025
It's not about an AWB passing it's about what they think they can get away with and keep their jobs. Gun owners are aggressive politically and make a huge hubbub. They will claim that the crafters of the bill wanted more but they fought hard for "your rights" and managed to get this "compromise."

It's all smoke and mirrors. If they get away with one AWB without being removed from office, they will try for more features later.

That's too generous if anything. They'd love to go all in - no pistol grip, no bayonet lug, no flash hider, mag limit is 10 rounds, fixed stock mandatory,

>>31789265

That too. The bite needs to always appear as big as the bark. For any state that isn't eternally damned gun owners need to aggressively and relentlessly eject anyone who kowtows to the gun-control lobby.

And fuck, they were more generous negotating with Iran than they are with gun-owners. Were I a senate or representative I'd tell Obama "Yeah sure I'll vote for mandatory background checks - in exchange for you repealing all the import bans on ammo and firearms".

For laughs I suddenly thought of "I'll support a high capacity magazine ban in exchange for repealing the NFA and hughes amendment". You can have a selective fire weapon without any tax stamp or paperwork..but you can only have 10 rounds. Obviously I'm being silly there I'm never going to ever support a magazine capacity ban. Not even throw a 50-100 round mag ban under the bus even if I find those magazines for semi-autos to be silly.

I can only speak to personal experience. I was offered pic related for $600 in 1995 because the seller believed that the government would be coming around to snatch them all up soon. I got the rifle wit factory folding stock, a factory 30 rounder and five rounder and a standard stock along with 600 rounds of ammo.

As to how it was in general? I live in Alabama. A cop owned an LGS and sold me factory Ruger 20 rounders marked "Military and Law Enforcement Only" over the counter. There were always "limited pre ban" rifles and magazines for sale. Outside the States that instituted their own AWBs when the national AWB sunsetted in '04, no one gave a shit. Bruh, I am using my GI bill. I served for 6 years before going to college. I'm 26 years old and am now a college senior. I'm on track to be valedictorian and am extremely well liked by my peers.

I just cannot stand white men who complain on the internet yet have not taken it upon themselves to get a proper education. Public schooling is shit, it produces no critical thinking skills and most public high school graduates are lucky if they have an 8th grade reading level upon graduation.

Yes, I do want a more educated populace, even if it's too liberal for your small pea brain.
>>
>>31777646
A lot of gun people didn't notice. There were a lot more fudds back then, and moreover, there just wasn't as big of a market or culture for black rifles, even among the tacticool crowd. Seemed like all the hardcore self-defense VHSs (the 90s equivalent of Chris Costa etc.) were all about pump shotguns and shit, and you could only really get one or two AR variants on the mass market anyway. And when the ban came around there were a lot of people who thought it was about banning full-auto, like in '86, because they didn't have any organization or knowledge about it. Shit, the NRA had fudds all over their board of directors back then. I'm not even sure a majority of NRA members opposed the ban.

Now, we have way fewer fudds, the gun culture is all about black rifles and there are a ton of people using them with lots of accessories on the market. I would say a majority of gun owners own or at least are ok with ARs. Plus there are sports like 3-gun taking off, and in general people trust the feds a lot less like >>31778458
said. The gun culture as a whole is more organized and prepared to fight against an AWB and defend CC (which was illegal in a lot of the US in the 90s). So passing an AWB would fuck the Dems really badly in subsequent elections, though I'm not sure they know that because a lot of them bought into the "90% want to stand up to the evil NRA" BS.

I am worried that Trump may very well alienate people from republicans, and if the Dems take the house and senate they can railroad an AWB and god knows what else through. If you ever saw the "sequel" to the 94 crime bill that the brady bunch proposed right after the AWB passed (google it), you know they want everything. I mean there is just no compromise with these people until you have to beg the police for a permit for a single shot bolt-action .22LR for deer hunting only. Vote whoever you want for president but make sure you're straight down the ticket pro-gun for house and senate, state and US.

The last gun My dad bought in the 90's was in 92 and was a Mak 90, 1992 was not as bad as the 94 cuckfest. as he did score an IMI Uzi carbine a few months earlier, and other all foreign made import guns were still common. ( 922r horseshit did not come until 94)

>Be me
>be 8 yrs old
>dad wants to buy AK
>Remember seeing one on Cadilac man, and other 80's action movie reruns on TV... Cool I think
>goes to fun store with me
>talks to the guy, buys gun
>didn't really see the gun on the rack or when my dad was buying it
>whole time I was walking around looking at bb guns and a M1917 water cooled Browning that was in a bitching display in the store center (to this day not sure if semi or full fun... or how much it was for sale)
>he buys Mak 90 for $200

After we get it home he shows it to me and lets me finger fuck it for the first time

even at 8 yrs old his looked different from the ones I saw on TV.
>Thumbhole stock
>no slant break
>no cleaning rod
>No bayo lug
>shitty looking wood for furniture
>little mini fag mag

He did buy 2 30rnd mags at the store

Then some later I was watching america's most wanted, The story was about a guy who gunned down some ppl in an apartment with a Mak90 AK... and he used a 30rnd mad.

>John Walsh while holding a Mak90 had a 5 minute cuck fest about how the gun first had 10rnd mag but the murderer simply used the 30rnd clip *click*... making him more deadly and that there is no reason to have a 30rnd clip. and to make things scary the gun comes with a 5 bullet clip but the 30rd clips are still legal to buy and own!!!!

Then I remember Feinstein's tirades about "salt weapons" and the
"You don't need an AK to hunt a deer"

My Father would get pissed at the TV and Yell

This was the final straw for gun owners who were usually apolitical. That's why I personally will never compromise with gun grabbers. There is no point negotiating with them. Their end game is for you to lose all your guns. No matter what they say, they wish to ban guns.

No. 3 was the fact that what was defined as an assault weapon" was a rifle that was used in a very very trivial number of deaths tobegin with, and anybody in those days would be laughed out of the room just by the weight of government printed data on crime statistics regarding, something that boggles my mind even as we speak. >Limit the amount of ammo you can buy in one month / transaction

>Fine you if you get caught with old ammo innawoods

All of the above will lead to shortages and price hikes
