It really depends what I'm doing.
And it really depends what your definition of winter is.

Most of the winter I wear thinsulate lined leather gloves. When it's really bad in Jan/Feb I have three fingered leather sherpa lined mitts. If I'm just in the city I have these knit gloves with conductive thread in the fingertips so I can still use my smartphone.

Southern Alberta here so the weather generally fluctuates from -30c to +10c on any given day between October and April

I think he means that deserts aren't necessarily hot. The Antarctica is a desert. You still may need mittens for your kittens.

Northern Illinois here. If it's not too cold I usually stick to pockets, but when it's frigid as fuck (looking at the last two -30 Fahrenheit winters) I use 250 gram thinsulate gloves with hand warmers on the palms.
