Marauder: Man of Prey

Amerikkka occupies Russia under the guise of a "humanitarian mission" to restore order after a coup/civil war/unexplained crisis. Mass civil unrest occurs against the occupiers, causing the Americans to scale back their "peacekeeping" efforts to a Moscow rump state, leaving most of Russia lawless. Former cops and gangsters become warlords, industrial society breaks down, and millions of people starve or freeze to death. A new semi-feudal society based on "Houses", and using 5.45x39mm as currency, takes form after the first couple of winters.

You play as Akhmetzyanov during this, a former Red Army sapper that served in the Afghanistan war, who lives in a rundown apartment in a "closed city" in the Urals. You start off with just yourself and a 12 gauge over-under, but over time you can buy, find, or steal literally tons of slavshit (Vepr's, Saiga's, AK's, RPG's, KVP machine guns, etc), recruit new members, and level up. The combat is the same squad level semi-turn-based/real-time strategy as 7.62mm, but with some improvements (a material penetration system and perk system, for starters) and a more linear storyline.

Its unpolished,it does not hold your hand and it is unforgiving unelss you save scum - but its good game none the less.

It fixes most issues i had with combat in 7.62 . Good story and cool setting. Only problem is that they got rid of sandbox in favour of series of linear misions, few companions and no freedom to choose them.

Choice of guns is limited compared to 7.62, but this is somewhat dictated by the setting itself.

Also, probably one of few games in recent history where the female is naggy, plain russian baba instead of some sexy chick.

There's also the murderous thrown rocks issue to be abused.

I recommend the game to every autist.

When I booted the game back up last year for the first time in ages and heard Russian radio voices, I immediately thought I tasted DiGiorno's pizza. Back when IL-2 was all I'd play, I'd binge-play it on a Friday night, pausing in the middle of a dogfight to eat pizza.

I ate pizza so much in tandem with this game that my brain associated Russian radio voices with the taste of non-delivery pizza.

Here's an AI IL-2 attacking a Stuka
>>
>>31784279
>>31783189

Dont you say.

I remember when i bought this games cd (il2 forgotten battles) for 10 euros off a cheap sale in an actual store.

Then 14 yr old me played it with the keyboard a little.

Then i bought a stick.

Then my squadmates teach me to fly.

All the experience i have from those years still helped me in vidya today. Im basically the go-to fighter ace.
It helped me lots in war thunder , too, before that game turned into arcade garbage. Games very very similar at the start even.

i just got kind of sad when i re-bought it, installed it twice with different modpacks and found nobody to play it anymore.

The uncomplicated, halfway balanced in and out dogfighting servers on that game were golden. It was just skill in the air, not equipment.
All people do these days is grind for "unlocks"

Even other flight sims dont give me that flying feeling, as if im really sitting in that shaky piece of metal up there.
Many flight sims fly like the planes are on rails, and DCS is just too modern and sterile for me.

Dover died instantly beacse its launch was a disaster.
the new game, stalingrad, will probably go the same path if they keep adding 2 planes and charging 60 bucks for them.

The old game literally had every theater, every combatant and a little forwards and backwards in time playable in the air. All well modeled, impossibly large number of scenarios.
Sick of the ice? go fly in the pacific. Sick of that? go fly over north africa.

whatever man, hopefully the moneygrabbing devs will deliver a product of the same scale on day. Atleast the new game has good graphics.

Might be a good idea to play a few games of skirmish against AI to figure out what's good. Campaign tends to give you decks that are very skewed towards certain gimmicks rather than a well-rounded do-everything that's easier to learn with.

Bring infantry. Every country has at least 1 generic rifleman squad type equipped with rifles and ok RPGs. They're generally cheap, can come in equally cheap transports, and you tend to get a ton of them per card. Send pairs or threes everywhere to hide and ambush shit in towns, forest roads, or charging down fucking mountains to RPG tanks from point blank range. If they get killed, no problem, you just lost a few cheap units in exchange for maybe some damage, and more importantly, advance warning on an incoming enemy push and can respond accordingly.

That said, infantry aren't really that good at assaulting a location since they can't shoot from their vehicles, but are slow moving when on foot. That's what tanks are for. A fairly standard template I used to use for assaulting was 1 or 2 of your good tanks, a bunch of cheap shitty tanks to act as cannon fodder/soft armour blasters, a vehicle recon, a pair of ATGM carriers to snipe the stronger enemy tanks, and a bit of AA. If I'm hitting a town, then also a mortar some ways back to smoke the approach and a few squads of infantry to charge in while the vehicles snipe from the outskirts.

Also bring a few different types of AA and spread them out. Hide them in bushes if you can.

You guys are blindly going up a hill.

-There's a spot feature that your Squad leader is apparently failing at.
-You can hear people walking from like 50ft away in Squad.
-Gunshots are loud

Most of all Squad is static board. You can guess where enemies may be. If you're blindly dying Squad then you're fucking up.

But to be fair. Squad suffers from gamma issues and the DMR optic reticles make no sense and do not work.

Yes. Muzzle flashes and dust rise, when I last played, didn't seem to be yet implemented.

I'll give it another go later. I just got fucking asspained the first time I installed it because I couldn't see shit and apparently my enemies were fucking laser-guided Terminators.

I've also been informed that playing on max settings will fuck you, so I'll turn those down as well.

It went through a pretty big redux phase, they added some new weapons and rearranged a bunch of stuff. Those stupid shitty boosts no longer exist so you won't see 250 fatties with +20% health/speed/accuracy/damage boosters anymore, thank god. Still has a pretty loyal playerbase and if you haven't logged in for awhile it usually gives you some free stuff for coming back.

I dunno...
I kept hearing about this game a couple of years back on /k/ and went and bought it when it was on a Steam sale this summer.

It was a solid meh/10. The gun play was alright but left a lot to be desired and the upgrades were boring. The story line was painfully Russian (a big surprise with it being a Russian dev team) but still, it was overly somber and bleak.

It did a lot of things ok but nothing great, IMHO.

>>
>>31791997
Eh it wasn't the balance that killed it for me, it was the way it was achieved. I wanted some what propotional numbers as a good old /k/ military history lover. In reality I believe there are some 12 AA peices per 100 tanks or so, but in wargame, I found the best way to win was to have more more AA units than tank units, and just have a few heavily microed heavy tanks.

I got sick of babysitting soviet tanks, I wanted tank and infantry formations, not leet skeet snipers that poked 24/7 and lived in fear of ATACMS and other wunderwaffe.

I miss EE

It's a perfectly valid complaint. You can sometimes get around it if you stick to forests, use smoke / MLRS judiciously, and embrace sneaky maneuvering, but there are going to be times where the American roles out the M1A2 and you can't do jack shit against it unless you're a USSR player.

Unfortunately, Eugen has this particular market cornered, there isn't an alternative. It's a perfect combination of history and non-retarded gameplay that is hamstrung by the fact the French suck dick at game development.
>>
Honestly really enjoying BF1 right now. Thought I would hate it, played the beta and was unimpressed, but come release many have recommended it to me. I bought it on Sunday and love it.

Granted, it needs more maps and March is a long way away, but it's FUN.
>>
>>31788475
That's the game that convinced me to get a Vive. Worth it. I've shown it off to some mates and they all love fucking around in H3VR. They're all also nogunz so I was surprised how much they wanted to play it, and for how long

It's not exactly a 'game' game, but it's a fantastic proof of concept for handling firearms in VR. Just the fact you can smack ARs, slap HKs and bash the mag from AKs to reload makes it feel so good

That and loading a bunch of shotguns, strapping them to your person and then running through the kill house New York reloading never gets old.
>>
>>31792141
>Granted, it needs more maps
I really wish they would give the anti tank guided missiles their actual range the fact that most of them only have a 200-300meter range bonus over tank guns is a big issue.

I rarely get the chance to play, but Squad is definitely my favorite first person shooter at the moment. The unforgiving nature of it, combined with the emphasis on teamwork and some excellent audio assets all combine to create some of the most immersive experiences one can possibly have in a video game.

>>31784830
At first, I would suggest playing much, much more cautiously than you would think is necessary. Sure, it can get boring, and you won't get as many kills that way, but you have to learn how to stay alive before you should worry about how to get to the top of the scoreboard.

First of all, yes, some people are stupidly good at this game, and can indeed snipe at obscene ranges with iron sights, or win just about any fair firefight. I'm not one of those people, but with solid tactics I'm still able to end most games with a respectable score, even when I'm playing medic. Just don't try to duel with those guys, instead stay low and get your squad to move around and flank if possible. If not, then retreating and relocating is usually not a terrible option.

With a little bit of experience, you get a lot better at predicting the enemy's movements, and you learn what you can and cannot get away with, in terms of both tactics and just pure survival instincts. Once you get over that initial skill curve hump the game suddenly becomes a lot more fun, trust me.

Oh, also try to join squads with SL's that actually know what they're doing. If you don't like your SL, just switch squads or create your own.

>>
>>31797516
Not a fan of the game's look. Yeah, I know

>muh grafix

But it just put me to sleep every time I played. The general art direction was bland and the color palette was about as exciting as a hospital waiting room's. There's also something about the unit models that puts me off. The aliens are less interesting to look at than the classic X-COM xenos. I'd rather play UFO Defense, even if it's much less polished.

>A little bit about E:D
>it's a huge multiplayer online game with the option to play solo, or in a group of friends, on your own as well as with the wider player base. Both groups can accomplish all the same goals, though there is some derision towards people who spend all their time in Solo mode contributing toward meta-game goals.

The player community is diverse and tight-knit, and the developers listen to it when it comes to all kinds of things, including absorbing player actions and events into the story itself occasionally. One recent example is where a fellow's grandfather had passed recently, that he loved coffee and fishing, and there was a space-station that coincidentally had his name and sold coffee and fish. The player kindly asked the developers if the would be able to run an event related to that. And they did, and it's quite heartwarming. You can now deliver coffee and fish to Walter Dock for big cash, and of course to show your friendship and feels for a fellow pilot.

As for the game itself, there's piracy, trade, exploration, and all the other fun things you'd expect when it it comes to a game about flying around in space!

Also, could anyone recommend some software to help tidy up my flag there? Since a Sidewinder is not only the starting ship, but a type of rattlesnake, it works perfectly for the Gadsen!

The Germans barely actually did anything in that game, though. They bombed Eindhoven and it killed civilians, just like in real life. Can't avoid that. I had so much fun playing a German campaign in this. I think it was Army Group centre.

>Start of the invasion of USSR in my Bf. 109
>All is well. Get quite a number of kills on weaker Russian aircraft. Develop a tendency to go hunting outside my mission zone, as often there are lots of IL-2s or such in the area that make for easy kills but aren't my official target.
>In doing this, develop quite a confidence in my own abilities during the campaign, going from a cautious new pilot of questionable party loyalty to a rather zealous ace.
>Eventually wind up in Kursk tasked with helping the offensive in a shiny new Fw. 190
>Strike fast and push the Soviets back to a large degree, almost taking the map. Somehow we never quite manage, and we start to lose momenum.
>This grinds on for a while, I think I end up with at least 50 air-air kills + many more ground kills, as I tend to go on ad-hoc hunts.
>Situation is deteriorating in spite of my efforts.
>More and more often, we're required to transfer airbases as our current one is at risk of being captured. A few bases are owned by nobody (I think because I singlehandedly attacked them and destroyed all Russian equipment, but it was impossible for our ground units to take them.)
>Eventually get hit and wounded on a regular mission, disengage from combat and limp my plane home but crash on landing.
>Out of action with injuries. I think we transfer to another area and retreat from Kursk. We don't last long in that area either (Admittedly I believe by this point I'd lost my nerve and became more focused on survival than upping my score in a war we were clearly losing) If my memory is right, the campaign ended with me in a Me 262 over Berlin, where I died in a crash-landing after being damaged by enemy fighters.

The Scapa Flow mission is lovely.
>Sneak in silently
>Sink a battleship, a transport, various destroyers.
>All hell breaks lose. Lights everywhere.
>Eventually forced to surface from damage, although some chasing ships have been sunk by torpedoes as well.
>Under heavy fire
>Everything is either damaged, on fire, broken, leaking, flooding or dead
>At this point something has fucked up and we're quite possibly sailing back INTO Scapa Flow instead of fleeing at flank speed
>No further orders have been given for quite some time. The few crew still alive have no idea what to do. Royal Navy are closing in for the kill on the surfaced U-Boat.
>"Kapitän! Kapitän!?"
>No response
>Crew search everywhere
>Eventually find pic related on the bridge, as the U-Boat prepares to ram a destroyer

HC sucks cock purely because sniper rifles ( in this case bolt actions) are fucking one shot kills anywhere in the body. This combined with DICE's shithouse netcode (runs at 30hz on consoles which is pathetic for an FPS, I havent checked for PC) males the game literally unplayable.

>ARMA 2 OA
>ACE/ACRE Insurgency sever on Taki
>server lets like four people play as OPFOR and they can swap between AI units mostly at will
>clearing some towns with 3 squads in HMMVs w/A10 supporting us and another group a few km away
>blow up the ammo cache and start to clear out the rest of the town
>suddenly A10 starts blazing away at areas we're in
>wrecks some HMMVs, levels a house, kills a fire team and wounds like two squads worth of people
>our quasi-FAC starts going ballistic on the radio at the A10
>A10 says we told him to fire on those positions
>shouting match ensues
>suddenly a third voice starts laughing over the radio
>some chucklefuck on OPFOR found an AI that had spawned near us with a 148
>went to our air channel and started directing strikes
>was marking shit on the map as well because lolglobal channel
>next day option for OPFOR is disabled

Can't have nice things because people are fags.

Also, why are Chern and Taki so much better than the two maps A3 shipped with?
>>
>>31812048

>Also, why are Chern and Taki so much better than the two maps A3 shipped with?

Because Bohemia got spoilt over the massive popularity ArmA got as well as the governmental orders for their VBS bullshit.

So they end up charging for DLC carts, snipers and helicopters instead of releasing free shit like they used to.

Fuck them, their design choices and their business model. That is all.
>>
>>31807923
It's good fun. You can change the realism settings to vary things from a relatively relaxed arcade-y sim to a realistic one (though no clickable cockpits)

The only real annoyance is that with infinite ammo, there's no way to toggle between infinite gun/cannon ammo and infinite bombs/rockets, just one "infinite ammo" box - so if you've got that on and you lose a gear leg on landing while carrying a bomb you're going to ruin quite a few people's days.

>Very limited hardware, only a handful of tanks and I lost almost all of them repelling an MPLA armored attack on my lines
>Limited arty support
>Probing attacks on MPLA/Cuban lines are risky as fuck since with automatic weaponry shit can go badly very quickly if my guys stumble into entrenched infantry
I have found that night missions tend to go pretty well if I do quick sweeping advances with infantry into enemy lines as long as I can get in real close without being seen. Usually tips things in my favor. Otherwise I lose a shitload of guys.

>ATGMs now fly faster and aren't like this fucking slow ass train of guided death

>>
>>31812074

Yeah, no...

BI Czech and BI Simulation are two different entities. They don't share their money.

OFP had Red Hammer which wasn't worth twenty bucks.

Armed Assault had Queen's Gambit which wasn't worth twenty bucks either.

Arma 2 had three of DLCs that are very passable as well, only Arrowhead came to Resistance level in term of quality.

Massive popularity of ArmA only came about because of DayZ and it happened literally the month before Arma3 came to early access.

Before that, Bohemia was on the brink of closing their studio. Arma3's development wasn't going well either, they fired the lead developer and had two of their developers locked up in Greece for five months.

Arma3's development was a clusterfuck they salvaged as well as they could. Tanoa is a good expansion worth the money. The smaller DLCs had very agressive sales already.

Considering the amount of support Arma3 still gets three years after its release I wouldn't say fuck them. Moreover mods likes CUP are only made possible because of BIS' willingness to just give away their work for people to play with.

arma3.com/news/arma-3-roadmap-2016-17

ArmaIV will be made on the Enfusion engine, and that engine is developed only thanks to DayZ's popularity. So be grateful for that at least.
>>
>>31820369
It's an okay mod and deffinate improvement in some aspects, the problems is that balance wise it makes very little sense to give all nato tanks longer range without changing their price. T-72s only have 3500m range btw, because ronsons ;) While the T-55 with full caliber early rounds and T-55 1980s with laser range finder and APFSDS also have only 2500m range, despite all NATO tanks having better range in their upgraded variants.

A good idea though, if only the modder was more consistant, and changed prices.
>>
>>31812048

>why are Chern and Taki so much better than the two maps A3 shipped with?

Because they made bad design and setting choices early on in Arma3's development they couldn't just walk away from. Anyway Tanoa is objectively the best looking map ever released for an Arma game, and all the vegetation, buildings and props that come with it are a gold mine for map makers.

Anyway CUP mod has all the maps from Everon to Bukovina ported to Arma3.
