Pocket carry? Revolver.
Competition? Semi.
Woods walk? Wheelie dealie.
Dirt blasting? Cyclomatic.
Range funsies? Depends on the gun, not the action.

Coyote country? Self loading.
So on and so forth.

Wheel guns are reliable. I've never heard of a revolver "jamming" or failing to fire - as opposed to a semi-auto.

Semi-auto pistols have the advantage of having higher capacities in a smaller, more compact package.

I think reloading is a big factor when comparing the two. Unless you have speed reloaders or moon-clips for your revolver, you're going to be slower at putting rounds out faster than a semi-auto
