How do we educate Fallout 3 fans on how guns actually work?

remember, fallout is the game with the retarded drum shotgun

Bruh stop. Todd Howard isn't John Browning and not every company that makes role-playing fantasy games is required to hire a person specifically for the role of explaining how fictional fantasy guns should operate correctly.

Fallout 3/4 fan here, I own guns and know how they work. Also Fallout 4 is the best Fallout game in the series.

I liked both New Vegas and Fallout 3 a lot more than 4.

Not that I haven't spend a lot of time playing 4, I have, and I had a lot of fun, but it doesn't feel like a Fallout game.

>Gutted speech system
>Boring quests, most of them infinitely repeating radiants
>Almost every quest has only one path and solution, almost always involves violence.

It feels more like Far Cry or STALKER to me, the actual quests bore me to tears so all I do is wander around the open world exploring on my own terms and getting into fights.

A post apocalyptic minecraft with a side of FPS. Speech was a mess (it didn't go full mas effect detailing tier at least,) "legendary" weapons range from pitiful to god tier for no particular reason. It's just straight up magic that some are better than others. They hand you power armor, a minigun and a free deathclaw kill right out the door. Kill, loot, return is 80% of the quests, some of which are endlessly repeatable. Blitz made melee a joke. The perk chart combined perks, skills, and poor leveling design into one abomination. The settlement building was 1/4th of the major factions, and all of the DLC except Far Harbor and 30% of Nuka World. Speaking of the factions, one is 10-20 dudes in a basement at most, and at least two of them end up making you their leader for some reason.
>>31773764
I didn't say jack shit about FNV. Fallout 4 feels like an updated Fallout 3 at best, which is doesn't have an excuse for given a development time of 3 years and being a AAA title.

I love the MMP-80 so much.

The shells should be less able to carry payload, but according to most sources the MMP-80 still penetrates more armor. I guess HEAT loads are either too logistically taxing to load in every single round for MS weaponry, or perhaps aren't feasible for some otyher reason.
>>
>>31773814
But FNV was literally an updated/pre-modded FO3?

Not sure if b8 but I agree, F4 is the best. It just requires a lot of mods for better (aka /k/ friendly) weapons/armor/clothing and shit like that. Before F4 came out I was OBSESSED with New Vegas but F4 is such a major play-mechanic improvement, in the same sense that Skyrim has a better playability than Oblivion.

>>
I think fallout 4 is a ton of fun. But when it comes the weapons (this board's topic, remember guys? Not muh lore or muh dialogue trees), I think that there simply wasn't enough variety in the stock game.

Also, the assault rifle in that game looks super retarded. And the institute weapons are fuckhuge for no reason. And the modding system all but ensures that you have nothing but recoil compensated single shot rifles by making the same bullet out of the same gun do less damage by virtue of the gun being automatic. That pisses me off the most.

You clearly don't know what he's talking about.

He's not saying that shotguns with drum magazines are retarded, but that particular one is.
>>
>>31774134
I got into the series with 3, then went back to play the originals.

I liked the originals a lot, but I still like the new ones more. I just can't lose myself in the world with the old games. I love the new ones for putting on the radio and walking down an old dusty road, seeing movement off in the distance, exploring the world in unbroken first person.

I actually really liked Tactics, thought the isometric viewpoint was a real asset there and I loved the idea of a hybrid tactical squad combat and RPG game system, though some parts of the game were really annoying (looking at you super mutants.)

Overall I really liked the originals, but I went back to play 1 and 2 because I felt like I owed them a few plays for being so important in gaming history, rather than games I'd just pick up and play on any given day I was looking for something fun to do.
>>
>>31773514
It's a modern game.

Millennials have ruined that game. Like most modern games. Getting accurate guns doesn't matter to them anymore.

Mods are literally the only way to play Fallout 4 for an extended amount of time.
There's nothing like blasting Romero like zombie-ghouls with a mish mash of a Sten, an MP18, and a Type 100 while Vietnam War era music in the National Guard Training Grounds where you heard Service Rifles were stored via the mod desc.

I wish DLCs would go away, but it's never going to happen at this point. The best you can do now if you don't want to deal with that is either pirate the games you want to play or wait a year for them to release the "full" game. Or you can just buy games like TW3 where they give you expansion packs instead of little nonsense DLCs, but I don't find that fundamentally different than the prevailing DLC model at all.

In this state it wouldn't work.
But if one thinks of the front loading henry rifles.
it might be possible to create a lever action that uses the drum as some kind of speed loader to fill the tube.

Might even be possible to fuck up Australian gun laws if speed loaders are legal over there.

>>
>>31774589
Alright alright. I don't know the animation for this since I never really played fallout but let's assume it's a pump action as it appears.
If the barrel is lifted upward as it appears in many games for pump guns when the round is pumped out the rearward slide motion releases 1 shell from the drum which slides through the tube (because gravity) into the action. Between the drum and action is just tube no spring.

Option 2 this one seems more workable if it was a real gun.
The barrel is not lifted.
In front of the drum, when the action is pulled rearward a piece hits the front of a shell which propels the shell rearward into the action allowing it to cycle as a tube fed. This would work if you pumped the shotgun reasonably hard.

Again I don't play the damn game just guessing at how some one would make it work.

>>31775154
I never said it was the pinnacle of post-apocalyptic writing. It's just leagues better than Fallout 3's jumble fuck of a plot.

Fallout 3 was all black and white. There was little to no in between or 'gray' areas. Enclave was undeniably the bad guys, Brotherhood was undeniably the good guys.

New Vegas had no right or wrong answers, only results of your decisions. Are the Legion pretty bad? Sure, but in the Legion, safety is guaranteed and civilization is brought, harsh as it may be. Is the NCR portrayed as good? Sure, but as you dig deeper you see they're no different than and foreign invading force, forcefully occupying land and taxing "their" citizens into oblivion. And Yes Man and House are even further gray areas. Of course there were instances of good and bad answers.

>>31775179
Oh I had fun in FO3, don't get me wrong. And the combat is essentially the same between the two, granted VATS is more balanced and the implementation of strength requirements, Damage Threshold, weapon mods, etc. It's still practically the same combat, and I'm not even trying to be sarcastic.

>>31775244
Was the original Roman civilization undeniably evil? Because that's what they were trying to emulate.

Are there, relative to today, bad aspects about it? Of course. Slavery is horrid by today's standards, as is the rampant and blatant misogyny and homophobia, but the society actually functions. Traders and their people are protected by raiders and other outside forces. It becomes a question of how much freedom are you willing to sacrifice to ensure security? They protect their people leagues better than the NCR but I do admit they aren't fleshed out nearly as well and the result is that they all look like just a band of raiders and slavers. I just wish they had more time because an entire part of the map east of the Colorado was planned but never actually made.

The legion is fascistic, homophobic, and misogynistic, but both factions have slaves. The difference is that the Legion admits it and can actually ensure security for it's people.

No. It was 480i trash.. The worst console I've ever played. Anything on PC at the time blew it out of the water.. The XBox was overall better. Was the death of gaming too with the cinematic bullshit of FF and the Kingdom heart games.

For FPS? These days I just aim for accurate enough that it doesn't completely ruin my experience. All AAA FPS past about 2008 are console ports so not like it matters. I am enjoying Squad right now.

I prefer gaming in a PC.
But at that time there wasn't a way for me to have three friends round and have a blast with a game on a PC. There was on the PS2.
It was probably the last console I liked, you out the disc in and it just played, which I couldn't guarantee with a computer at the time.
Now, what with forced updates, forced patches, installation, paying for online etc etc I'd say console gaming IS more inconvenient than PC.
If you couldn't have fun on a PS2 you must have been a very sad person.

You mean a bolt handle due to engine limitations? Obsidian actually needed to have a few deviations from complete realism in the gun design due to engine limitations. I remember they needed to change something with one of the grenade launchers as well but can't remember what off hand.

The Xrail keeps spring tension on all the rounds and slowly pushes them into the tube. The CS looks like the spring is in the tube ahead of the magazine, so the spring would need to be pushed back behind the magazine and reset with every shot in order to push the next round in.

>Because FO3 is shit in more ways than I can list in a single post

I'll do one for you. The fucked up morality system, that was probably written for complete morons.

>*BLAM*
>*Karma gained*
>Huh, what
>Oh, he's actually a bad guy. So i'm a good person for shooting guys randomly cause they might be bad guys, neat

Meanwhile in a parallel dimension

>Hmm, I wonder what this guy has to say
>Oh so he thinks it would be a totally neat idea to blow up a city
>So in this RolePlaying game, where apparently my choices matter, I have to choose between the moral implications of blowing up a city killing a few hundred innocent people, Or stopping the guy planning to blow up a city
>Oh the vast and difficult implications of both choices
>Oh whatever should I pick
>The literal psychopath, or the Golden Armoured hero?

No room for Gray morality IN MY GAME ABOUT THE APOCALYPSE, WHICH IS PROBABLY THE EASIEST SETTING IN WHICH TO WRITE GRAY MORALITY. No, it's either Bastard or Saint. So intellectually stimulating and engaging

The worst fucking part is, that if you choose to blow up a fucking city, and kill a fuckton of innocent people, when you finally meet your father at the end of the game, you basically get a "I'm not mad, just disappointed" speech from him. I just blew killed a boatload of innocent people for no other reason than "Shits and Grins" and he acts as if I stole a cookie from the corner shop? Was this game written by psychopaths?
>>
>>31778354

every moral decision involves extra dialogue, animations and geometry. theres a reason why oldschool RPGs have so many different paths to take, because all of it is just text.
>>
>>31778354
How about how there's no reason for Megaton to even exist when there's an already existing town right beside it that the people could have occupied instead? Or the ridiculous way of how little area different factions have control of and how close the factions live to each other to the point that simply opening a door in a subway leads you from fighting raiders to fighting supermutants or how there are times when you can do things like shoot slavers at their camp from a supermutant camp? Or the sidequest with the edgy people who think they're vampires and how you can just offer to have the settlers in the area donate blood with used needles and none of them complain? Or the entire main quest line that people have written long articles about everything wrong with?
>>
>>31778512

Dialogue maybe, but extra animations and geometry? I doubt it. All it would take to add a little bit of moral sense to that scene is for the bomber to give a good reason as to why Megaton should be destroyed, and that is easily done with competent writers. You don't need 27 billion 7 hour moral quandaries, all intricately detailed scenarios which are radically different from each other.
All you really need is two, maybe three scenarios, but just write them so all of them are in some way sympathetic, instead of just being a literal "Hero vs Villain" episode, leaving the player to decide what they think is the right choice, or choosing the option that best fits their own agenda, you know, like a Fucking roleplay game?
