Seeing all those SKSen in that arsenal thread got me pining to see just how many /k/omrades own a SKS. Don't be lazy faggots, take pics of your rifles.

Everybody's invited, Russian, Chinese, Romanian, East German, Albanian, even Yugoslavians.

Nice Yugo.
Need to get yourself a Yugo sling to go with it.
>And some dummy grenades and blanks
>>
I live in California. Can I get a SKS? I heard that Norinco SKS's were legal. I thought bayonets were illegal though so what the fug? Does the bayonet have to be gone? Or can I keep it due to some weird loop hole?
>>
>>31773151
Already got the sling, but don't have the funds for the grenades yet
>>
No camera, own a beat up old 1952 Tula factory SKS.

Kind of wish I had held out after getting my license, just came back from a gunshow and they had lots of premium quality russian SKSs for under $300 CND.
>>
>>31773151
>>31773042
Get a blue canvas sling. the leather ones are shit in comparison.

The rust spots (along with some cosmoline) will come out with very hot water and dish soap.

Is an SKS legal in Cook county IL? I must know.
>>
>>31774793
Don't ask a bunch of retards on an internet forum, do actual research into your local laws. Telling people this gets old.
>>
>>31774815
I did and I got no straight answers. One forum was saying that it's perfectly legal in its original unmodified condition, while another says that it's illegal outright. I just figured I'd ask here because odds are there's something else here from Cook County who knows.
>>
>>31774831
You have to go deeper.

Google "Municode Cook County Secs. 54-186", first link.

>Read through list of "assault weapons"

I guess it's because the mag isn't detachable, no pistol grip or foregrip, and no collapsible stock.
I guess that means any type of bubba is out of the question. Anyone else in Cook with an SKS?

Here's my yugo m59

Also have two 1954 tula rifles thatI bought for 400 bucks a few years ago. Waiting for the price to clumb higher before I sell one
>>
>>31772883
Great place to start! The sling looks out of place as fuck but oh well. A Russian?

>>31773199
If your old Tula works I wouldn't be too disappointed, an SKS is an SKS up here in Canuckistan. That being said yes, if you want something better looking the time is now, the prices are ever so slowly creeping up and up. I lucked out and bought my SKS back when they were a little lower than they are now, an all-matching 1951 Tula for $250 Syrup bucks. Sadly I don't have my favourite picture of it anymore, I'll have to take one once it freezes up and I can go shooting in my area again.

>>31775016
M59's have always been interesting to me, how do you like yours?

I enjoy my m59 very much. It is very well built without the extraneous features of the m59/66. I actually sold my chinese sks after buying this one. It has some serious heft and just feels good to use. The appearance is worn but the bore was perfect when I bought it.

Fantastic, honestly. On par with Russians I've handled. It surprises me that your M44 is poor. The Rommy guns are typically well made.

J&G has Chinese beater SKSs for like $320, should I get one? I'd love to own an SKS and I already have an AK so I've got plenty of ammo.

I only bought it because of the price- 350 for the rifle and 700 rounds of ammo. The stock is really bad. Its like someone cut the shape out of a 2x4. Someone the previous owner managed to wear through the butt plate as well.
>>
>>31776965
Holy fuck yes. Where are you finding them for these prices?
>>
I payed 300$ after taxes and the background check, I just like the look and feel of thumbhole. Thought about restoring it to it's original configuration, but I had a hard time finding a stock that wasn't beat to hell.
>>
>>31777062
Not that anon, but there's a Chinese one for sale near Orlando for 300$. All the others I've seen have been 450$+ Yugos.

>>31777171
What does that even mean? The SKS is just fine with 10 rounds. The AK is just fine with 30 round mags. There's nothing wrong with someone like yourself using an aftermarket 30 rd mag for the SKS, but your original point is that everyone in this thread is cucked because they don't use these aftermarket mags. Thats not the case. Most people don't choose the big 30 round on an SKS because it looks silly and poorfagish

Just got one from J&G sales two weeks ago. Very happy with it. Stock is beat too shit, which was expected. Rifle I got is 99% matching numbers. (Only the charging handle/bolt carrier thingy doesn't match.) 4 hour clean up of cosmo off metal, stock still sweats some when warmed up. Gun was accurate enough out of the box. Slight tweeking of front sight post brought everything where I wanted it @ 100 yrds. Rifle is a 1963 /26\. $350 with shipping to Florida.

Figured this would be a good place to ask:

I'm buying my first Raifu, and I'm stuck between a $700 AR and a $450 SKS here in GA. My friends say that the SKS will leave much to be desired and is not as practical. Is this true? What is left to be desired?
>>

build an AR for $550.
SKS aren't really worth their inflated price 2bh, and it's best left to collectors and people who enjoy milsurp these days.
>>
>>31778775
It really depends on what you want to use the rifle for. Do you want to kill deer and piggies in the woods and do cheap plinking? The SKS will be fine. Do you want to be a TACTICOOL XTREEM OPER8R with maximum aftermarket modification or rice out your gun to be a ten pound sub-MOA bench queen? Get the AR.

was looking at the same thing as a xmas gift idea from my girlfriend to me. I figure it might be easier for her to buy one from classicfirearms rather than go and handle/inspect/scrutinize one in a gunshop as she wouldn't really know what is quality.

Has anyone heard anything good or bad about the classicfirearms' sks?

glued on with a reinforcing bolt connecting the grip and stock. it seems very sturdy, but if it breaks I don't give a fuck. it's a chinese stock I got for free.
>>
>>31781586
honestly they're selling a bunch of yugos as the "ultimate buy" at an inflated price because that's the American SKS market nowadays. if you REALLY have your heart set on this weapon and can't shell out a benjamin more for a better/more practical weapon then go for it. But as someone who owns a russian, norinco, and yugo understand the SKS is really a weapon that does nothing to write home about

I'd say maybe. Early ones were built to Russian spec, later ones were less machined. Mine is an early factory 26.

Nice middle rifle.
>>
>>31782510
New ones too? I have heard the m14 clones aren't of the toppest quality, but that could be a particular design/spec flaw and totally irrelevant to the SKS

Less machined as in less finely machined, or they actually started using stamped receivers and shit?

Less lightening marks, pinned barrels over thread, pig sticker over the blade style bayo, and sometimes worse fitment with the cleaning rod/magazine.

Thanks. Just your standard Birchwood Casey Walnut/Tru-oil refinish kit. I wavered on doing it but it's a not of significant historical value, and I wanted it to be protected from the elements since it'll be for hog/durr in river-bottom brush (my 30-30 went to my younger brother).

>>31788443
Mine wasn't bad, the stock was really the only thing that left some to be desired, soft wood with plenty of dents/scratches. Bore was nice and shiny with good rifling. Bluing was a bit worn on sharp edges as you would expect but overall still good. No rust at all on mine; completely saturated in cosmoline. Factory matching numbers. Have yet to really give it the business in sighting it in, but it was as accurate as I am at 35-40yd standing.

Question;
I have a Chinese sks, and it seems to have this gap between the top of the gas tube and the port. Is this an issue? Should I get a replacement? In footage of me shooting it, every once in a while a jet of gas can be seen from the gap. The size of the gap is maybe he thickness of a dime.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you have problems with cycling. As long as the gun ejects and chambers a new round every time I think you're ok
>>
>>31798593
it's fine. The gas piston has picked up pretty much all the energy required to cycle in the first cm. That's why some AKs have holes drilled in the gas tube with no ill effect.

I just picked up an sks from my lgs and the internals are covered in some sort of black gunk that rubs off on my fingers whenever I touch it. Is this the fabled cosmoline? I've never had to clean cosmoline before so I have no idea what it's like
>>
>>31801181
Probably. Got pics?
>>
>>31801181
Shoot it. If it doesn't go away then yea it's a cosmoline queen. Just give it a good disassembly and cleaning afterwards

Pic sucks but basically the entire mag well there is covered in gunk, If I swipe my finger across it it looks like I just got done rubbing coal covered in oil. I've let the bolt/cover + cleaning kit sit in some hot water and that's been helping.
>>
>>31801251
it just looks dirty, like if someone shot it without fully cleaning out the cosmoline from the receiver.
>>
>>31801251
just use a can of break clean and a rag with some good old fashioned elbow grease.
>>
>>31775987
Nice! I got one for 180$ from then and it has a crack on the stock but functions flawlessly.
All matching too

Arsenal rollmark and refurb stamp.
>>
Any recommended magazine for a chink SKS? It's been bubba'ed up so bad it hurts, but it's $180 out the door.

Aren't the commercial skayas the only ones that are exported?

But that looks exactly like the one it comes with, just cleaner.
>>
>>31801792
then why change it? It's the stock mag and the best one for the SKS, honestly
>>
>>31795201
At least as reliable, possibly more accurate than the AK. Best poorfag SKS is called "living in Canada".

There are a few possibilities for mounting optics:
>replacement dust covers with one or three rails
Some of these allow you to use iron sights as well, but they leave the optic too high and rearward for my taste
>kwikrail that replaces dust cover and front sight
Great for a scout setup, but I've heard you can't use stripper clips
>bubba's side-mounts
Can be tricky to install but the superior option IMO.

As for reloading tactics, just make sure you have sturdy thumbs and good stripper clips.

My Russian SKS. Just got a Strike Hard buttstock pouch for it
>>
>>31782829
Is that tangled mess of paracord a sling? Jesus man why?
>>
>>31802131
Yeah, I've gotten rid of it since I took that picture. I'm eventually going to get either a Chink sling or a leather Yugo one.
>>
>>31801743
No. The military surplus type56 ones are more common, and the only ones that can still be exported here on occasion. Imports on guns coming from china that are semi auto rifles got shut off in 1994, the only ones we can get now have to be 50+ years old, and can't be coming from china. They come in as "relic" firearms.
>>
I miss my 1962 Norinco every day.

I regret selling it.
>>
I'm gonna get a tapco stock just to fuck with all of you here
>>
>>31803617
they really are comfy, if you're OK with having a pig-ugly gun.
>>
>>31803617
I had one. It's prob the best stock you can get if you want that tactical shit. If you use the steel detachable mags, you have to dremel part of the stock by the front latch away.

I have a confused boner

Did you sandblast that rifle?
>>
>>31803549
I'm not sure this is the case in Canada, most of what we get seems to be Norincos. We probably get type 56s as well but from what I've gathered they're not as common.
>>
>>31805176
the jungles of vietnam probably sandblasted it

Do you guys think a russian sks is worth the extra 150 over a chinese one?
>>
>>31806701
If it is in nice condition, id say yes. Especially if it is a commercial Chinese SKS. The Russian will appreciate in value better as well as being a little nicer made.
>>
>>31806701

Absolutely, the difference is quality is huge
