Relatively new to firearms, only ever used random .357 revolvers.
I am considering buying a Mosin, but I do not know how widely they are carried, and if 7.62x54rr is easy/cheap to find.
Suggestions?

Stevens 200
Build an AR
Hi Point carbine
Henry 22
Anything but milsurp.
>>31768061
What do you want to do with your gun? Home defense, plinking, hunting, sex?
start with a .22.
That said, Mosins and their ammo are pretty plentiful - once you're used to plinking, it's definitely a cheap way to move up.
>>31768080
Home defense and plinking, price range is up to $350.
>>31768117
Do you have ranges nearby?
>>31768084
>Marlin 60 and Ruger 10/22 retail for around $200
>Mosins are $200 with matching #'s, sometimes even less if you look around
.22 is good for learning on if you're going to be spending hours at the rang though. Other than that, I'd say ditch the peashooter and get a nugget.
>>31768117
Nuggets are too expensive now. And ammo isn't nearly what it used to be.
Anon take it from a nugget owner, save a little more and build an AR. Ammo is mega common and not expensive. And when SHTF there's going to be plenty of 5.56 nato.
What about good 'ol sks
>>31768061
Nuggets can be fun. Especially if you have a bayonet to go with it.
>>31768061
Get a nugget. Have fun. May not be cheap like it was but they aren't expensive either.
Don't use a nugget for home defense.
>>31768498
Why not? Because it's long? I've had an m44 at my bedside for what must be 3 years now.
>>31768359
How much are they?
>>31768273
How much would a decent AR be if I built it?
>>31769241
most of people says around 800
>>31769222
~$400 where I'm at. I'm in between an SKS and building an AR for my first semi-auto fun. I love the underdog idea of an SKS, but love to practice at 200+ yards, and I hear the SKS is something like a 4 MOA and nothing can be done about that and I should just build an AR
>>31768061
Dude I've owned many a milsurp rifle, and yeah they are cool and historic, but in the long run you're going to wish you bought something more practical. The only thing I use my M39 for now is a plinker.
>>31769160
Depending where you live, you probably don't want to use a full power cartridge, mainly. Think about that in an apartment complex. Thin walls, neighbors and so on. Not to mention, especially in an M44/M38 or M91/59, indoors with no ear pro? Muzzle flash out the ass? Fuck that.
I guess I'm not saying don't, but I am saying I wouldn't. Namely for the same reasons I wouldn't use a .308 or anything full power in an urban setting. I don't even live in an urban setting and I still wouldn't do it.
>>31769160
A Nugget is not good for home defense unless you have a bayonet, and you have no neighbors.
>>31769241
500$
>>31768273
This. Cost effectiveness wise at least.
I do have to say though, as someone who has both, I thoroughly enjoy my nagants more than my AR. It's hard to put in words, it's something between working the bolt and the solid recoil, more character I guess... I am weird. That and both of mine are Finnish, so extra character and build quality points. If you find a deal on a mosin, buy it, but the AR is something that every firearm american firearm enthusiast should own at some point.
>>31768061
Just buy a cheap AR. Nothing's really that much cheaper, desu, and at least it has universal utility.
I know it's a meme gun, but yeah. AR first, funs later.
AR15 if you want a good practical rifle. 1894C in 357mag for a practical and fun rifle.

>bayonets intruder
Tell me again sir, in your own words, why you felt the need to stab the man with a bayonet?
That's a court proceeding I would love to see. And as an EMT would probably come straight here asking which one of you dipshits bayoneted someone.
Really though... just don't use a nugget for home defense
Use whatever force necessary to defend yourself and your family. There has been a lot of anti-nugget sentiment on this board after they went north of $200 here in the US. Do not listen to the Glock and AR industry shills here trying to get you to panic buy.
If it's what you got and know how to use, rifle is fine.
