The USSR officially dissolved in December 1991, which means the newest Soviet military gear is almost a quarter-century old. How much is still in service, and which country other than Russia relies the most on USSR-era equipment?
Pic related is the "Vinnytsia," a corvette with the Ukrainian navy. It was commissioned in 1976, served with the KGB's Border Guard, and was eventually inherited by Ukraine in the mid-90's.
Its armament includes the Soviet-era RBU-6000 Smerch-2 anti-submarine rocket launcher system, among others.
They have 'quantity'
Seriously massive amounts of armaments where made by the soviets and its everywhere- all the former eastern bloc countries have some, lot of it through SE asia, India and a fair bit dumped into the ME and Africa. Its shit, but its a lot of cheap shit and does the job when all that job involves running over peasants, chasing rebels and blowing up large amounts of countryside in a not very accurate fashion.
Course if it hits or gets hit by anything modern its pretty much fucked, though Soviet missile tech was (and is) relatively good in their short-medium theatre stuff which can be replicated and often improved by all but the most backwards shithole countries- it might not hit 'exactly' where they want it, but chances are they've got enough to saturate a fucking huge area anyway. Armoured vehicles and planes from the soviet era are kind of substandard now, but for the most part they just do what it says on the can. Artillery and small arms are still quite relevant though.

Soviet vessels have a particular aesthetic "look" to them that makes them instantly recognizable.

The soviet empire didn't die in 1991, it just changed its name.
You think it's mere coincidence the KBG still runs that shit I gather?

You aren't talking about the RBU-6000 ASW Rockets, are you?

>which country other than Russia relies the most on USSR-era equipment?
Ukraine and Belarus and varied Arab states probably use a lot more USSR era gear than the Russians do now

People are overestimating the power of today's Russia.
believe you me when I tell you no country of the com-block has money for a decent living let a lone top notch gear like they had in the free for all days.
America next enemy is China and them only, they have the resources and the will to become the next big thing.
They bluntly steal designs from militaries from all over the world and nobody still lays a finger on them which means they are feared.

Russia's power is the fact it has a bazillion nukes. They have just enough of a land army to bully their neighbors, and enough nukes to stop them getting Saddam'd

>They have just enough of a land army to bully their neighbors
I don't agree about their neighbour conflicts, Georgia and Ukraine are not even close to being as impressive as what they do in Syria. Ukraine would be occupied already if that was their goal, they have much stronger opponent in Syria, they can barely use land troops and that's far away country.

>Russia's power is the fact it has a bazillion nukes
So do the half of the world officially and many more in hiding.
It means nothing as Russia is now focused on defense more than ever, they are not the power they used to be.

After a few years, they might as well be scrap metal. Especially the more complicated stuff, the more electronics, the more problems. A shitton of Soviet equipment was sold to European intelligence agencies and smuggled back to their respective countries, once the Warsaw pact started crumbling, equipment and tech was hard currency for officers.
>>31766247
From the guys who uses both Soviet and latest Russian tech, I can tell you that Soviet trash is still way better working and long lasting than the latest Russian equipment

Soviet stuff usually looked like orc machinery but their ships were actually pretty aesthetic.

That's exactly what he's talking about.

Probably, yes, though I wouldn't know. I'm guessing that your material has been maintained better than the Soviet stockpiles following its fall. Most things today are built with a planned obsolescence in mind, which wasn't really the case a few decades ago I guess.
